There is so much more to learn when you show failed attempts and explain why and how it failed.
I always say that you learn more when you screw up and take the time to understand why you screwed up. There’s little to learn if you succeed ”by accident”.
I made my first bow from green staff of rowan. I carved it while drying it over a campfire. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and did everything as wrong as possible. And yet I managed to make a bow that actually worked and managed to stay in one piece for over 10 years. After that I have failed almost seven times in a row with better materials better tools and a lot more information. But in the process I have learned more about different species of wood and how they respond to different kinds of tools than in any school or occupqtion in over twenty years ❤

I've learned so much from watching your videos Kramer.
I've learned even more from not being afraid to fail and trying new things. Who knew that bending and shaping wood could be so rewarding.
    Great stuff brah!
    Thank you!

I ordered an inexpensive d-cross section hickory self bow from an online seller and received a bow that doesn't have a single growth ring on the back. Its actually got not one but many growth rings that terminate on the limb sections. It's hard to be super disappointed in a bow for $70 but in this case I'm afraid to even draw the bow. I considered a bamboo backing for it but instead I thought maybe the fiberglass tape would give the bow the stability it needs.

USE VEGETABLE SHORTENING FRONT AND BACK THEN HEAT THE BOW AND BEND IT.
    CLEAN IT WITH ACETONE.

Have you experimented with different kinds of glue? I know the glue needs to be somewhat flexible...a hard epoxy resin would crack. I'm thinking that Gorilla Glue or a construction adhesive like Liquid Nails or NP-1 might work.

@@garethbaus5471 Probably @WallStreet749 meant to use epoxy or polyester resin with the glass cloth/tape rather than the water based Polyurethane wood glue. Those are much harder to work with and would not sink into the wood as well.
