And yet on several occasions I've encountered a blank planchet in circulation--usually a penny, but I believe I found a blank quarter once. It was the correct size, weight, and metal content, it simply hadn't been stamped, which explains why the machine at the bank didn't catch it.

And them comes the disappointment that these coins are almost worthless, doing the effort of counting them takes too long, and only if you get a lot of them you can get rich.
Plus, if you are the one paying for the machine to work, well, every penny made means you lost money.
