I delivered blank pennies to the Mint a bunch of years ago. Picked them up somewhere in Tennessee. There were 6 large bullet proof chests in my trailer. I think it was about $18,000 dollars worth. Drove my 18 wheeler down to the docks in the basement. It was an experience I'll never forget

Love to see how much care is used to make proof coins. I think I saw something once. I stopped by the West Point Mint once, multiple fences preventing you to even get close. No samples available either.
Remember when all that would have been made of silver & gold? Me neither. Before my time. Cool video, though. Would have liked to see a description of what some of those machines were doing, or a bit of narration. Some of it was just, "wow. Cool hydraulics. What's it doing?" Thanks for sharing. I bet slot machines are boring as hell after working there.
4:59 surely the Mint can provide a shute deflector rather than tape strips in such a prominent establishment. Who is running the maintenance department or are they on a shoe string budget..
This guys are literally really making money ..🤣🤗 💰💰.... I like the sound .. it's like Atlantic city NJ back in days .. when the value of people and money mint something 🤗🤣🤓
Is it funny to say that this is a satisfying video to watch. Also, fun trivia: the Philly Mint is just across the street from Ben Franklin's grave at Christ Church Cemetery down there in Philly.
A lot needs to be done to this video like editing and someone to voice over the processes and what is going on, how much per day they can print out, what they do with the defects and maybe some special limited edition coins....
I'll bet there are a few people working there that have a hand in generating mint error coins for the purpose of earning some extra cash on the side. The potential...
Back in the 80s we went there on a field trip they should us how money was made & watching them burn money because it was old it was money all over the floor they told us not to touch it but it was mountains of $100s $50s if only I had a time machine 😂😂😂😂

Only gave it a down thumb because there is no narration (at least while I am watching it). Background sounds are fine and the video is stunning. This would be REALLY great otherwise.
Seems the editor was really fascinated with the long sheets of metal coming off the roll.
Was thinking the same thing lol
Lol same
😂
🤣😆
Director too lmao
you know the mint is a real professional operation when you see the duct tape holding things together
Seeing the same scene for 30 sec never gets too old ( c'mon people, let's pick up the pace )
Just think...less than 60 years ago that was a giant roll of 90% silver...
Then everything went to hell

Heck, Make the error coins yourself haha. Then you know what to look for

that makes cents

I guess this is the only job where you make a lot of money😉
🤣 clever
that makes cents
That is objectively funny.
made me laugh out loud idk why
This rules
This should be a documentary for like the PBS and let tv stations to show us from start to finish. I'm learning what I did not know. Thank you.❤❤❤
The sound made me fall asleep and I woke up when it ended! Hate that when it happens!
I really appreciate this video. Cant nobody explain the process better than the person that works for the Mint.

They did a bad job at taping it up too, it's falling off and still has gaps!
When Scrooge McDuck dove into his coins it was like a pool of water but after watching this video....
This is what you'd get if you had asked Ingmar Bergman to make a documentary about coin production .
Wish I could have a mint job
Have you worked there before?
Wonder if they hire felons
It's a wonder any MS coins are in circulation by the pounding they take being spilled.
They're still considered MS if they haven't seen circulation. I imagine most of them are only MS60.
The coins get pretty banged up before they even leave the mint. Then they put them in bags and transport them to banks, and the coins get even more bag marks.
Beautiful artwork
Thanks for the posting-I will be sharing with the Coin Collecting Communities.
I love the part where they explain in detail what each machine is doing.

No precious metals…just monopoly money.
I sure hope they have super duty earplugs. Hearing that all day would drive me nuts!

What a Great Operation , Learn Good 👍

That waterfall of pennies was so cool
The philladelphia mint is the biggest mint in the world..it is a whole city block, with several levels in it.
Who on gods green earth edited this?
Watch at 2x speed next time.
More time than necessary was spent at each step.
my god it is like watching paint dry
You're watching the raw footage from "HOW ITS MADE"
I kinda thought it's from an episode of "Factory Made" lol
4:32 hey look that machine is making coins
Do you mint all change denominations silver dollars, fifty cent, quarters, etc what locations in US?
now I why its so difficult to find MS-70 coins
How long do you need to show the roll turning we get numb nuts
5:00 When the place literally making money has to hold things together with tape.
Huge process!
I'm really curious how you found this?...public archives or the library in Philly? Fantastic!!! Thanks for posting one even I haven't seen yet :-)

Watching this at 2x speed😏
Even then, each scene in this is still like 4x longer than it needs to be.
what a sin that it's all made out of pot metal now
Wish this had commentary

... thought that right from the start. Guess they just dont care. I bet they keep all the errors for themselves too!
Now you see where inflation is minted.
LOOKS LIKE SOMEBODY GOT SHORTED A QUARTER LOL
That's where that scratch came from😭
Yes I thought he'd never go to the next step!
This video would be better shortened and with some narration, what are they doing, how many quarters can they make in a day
man you couldnt pay me to work in this noisy place
Sounds like working at the Inquirer
You got any spare chaing
I thought he was waiting to empty the roll of steel😅
I understand the employees make a lot of money there.
Not impressed with the leather shrouds that keep the blanks from flying off, the masking tape looks very philadelphish!
how may quarters do
each bin hold like after the cut then the rolloing of the edges then press
The hold roughly around 250000 in each tank

3 minutes in and I'm still staring at a sheet of steel. Who the fuck made this?
At 5:58 coins are coming out of the machine
I guess they don't worry about bag marks here.
😮 ….no wonder my coins are all scratched up. Can you guys be a little more careful? Like maybe have a pillow to catch each one. 🤔

IKR, those machines look like they've seen better days.
Interesting, but this is unnarrated raw video.
Why don't they explain every step and show how errors occur.
?
And I don't need no poker chips at all
Would love to be in those piles with a microscope...😁 ...what fun!! Lol
I worked here when I was a kid, they screwed it up for me,I would like to go possibly back to the Pentagon or another area....
***COINAGE what dictates amount of coins, for example BARBER QUATER 1901 S
They make money to earn money.
Apparently a quarter (or any of the other coins) don’t gain a value until imprinted on. Such a weird thing.
I think this is the Denver Mint because there’s quality control Philadelphia don’t look at there’s
5:20 just imagine being in that pile of quarters

So, how much money does he make an hour?
Interesting.
The people who work there make millions of dollars a week, but they’re still middle class!
Money is only valued because we value it
More like we put a value on it.
It was originally backed up by precious metals. Gold and silver have actual uses outside of money and jewelry.
Kind of interesting to see that the quarter I have in my hand came from that mint. (I am not American)
I may have made thoses quarters...it's a small world!!
Watch video on 2x
Could use some narration...
To say the least.
I was about to reply with “turn captions on” 🤦♂️
Does anyone have change of a dollar bill? 😂
