- In this video, we will look at the basic steps for baroque dance: demi-coupé, pas-de-bourrée and coupé based on the descriptions provided in Rameau's "Maître à danser".
Music used in this video:
The English Dancing Master (excerpts) Academia Amsterdam A Choice Collection of Dances: Music for Baroque Dances at court and theater.
J.-B.Lully Passacaille from Peresée. Album by Christophe Rousset and Hugo Reyne
I think this is probably the best explanation thus far freely available to us all! Gros merci :)
Terrifically helpful video. I’m studying for my DMA exams and this was just what I needed. Thank you!
Thank you so much Beautiful and clear!
Thank you!
Hello, can u pls explain more baroque steps? Thank you
I like your videos - very helpful and clear. My one problem is the music you add bears no relation to the steps, and I find that distracting. Sorry. Otherwise good work! Thank you.
This is not the maid uniform; it is a dance/fitness outfit suitable for demonstrating dance movements rather than dress movements. There are plenty of costumed videos for the style presentations. This was not aimed at this. I am often saddened that the majority of musicians play dance music from the past periods without dancers, et al. In your videos, you use a female wind instrument player, which was not possible during the Baroque period as it was considered vulgar for women to perform on these instruments.
