Thank you, Thank you! I have been inspired by and a huge fan of August Macke for more than 30 years. I have a big collection of Macke prints. So happy to see you featuring his work. Thanks for your generosity in sharing your skill with us.
I have just recently discovered you, Paul, and I think this landscape will be the first one for me to try. I really like this style. Your book is arriving later today!
Well Paul, you say this is not your normal style of painting, and I believe you. But for someone who doesn't normally paint in this style, you've created a couple of amazing pieces of work. This is absolutely superb and I must congratulate you on a job well done.
Good for you enjoying Portugal! We are too but, I don’t know where you’re painting. I don’t have my paints with me & can’t find paints or paper here on the coast at all. Enjoy & wishing you success. I’ve some lovely pics Ihope to paint when back home! Like the colourful paintings!
Mr Paul!! Again, you and watercolor Wednesday are why I love Wednesday! I really enjoy learning about other artists and seeing how you re-create their work putting your own special spin on it These paintings remind me so much of the color blocking painting we did. (The painting with the white building and boat next to the ocean) You are so right, it’s amazing how artists inspire others. Thank you for your time, energy and patience teaching us!
Good afternoon, ☕🥧dear Paul! I’m glad to see you again on your favorite channel and, as always, thank you for the video and for your work. I love watching your hands, they create wonderful landscapes on paper with paints! The same paints, and you skillfully create a palette and every time in a new way. The drawing technique is easy, but looks very impressive. I want to draw it immediately! I wish you all the best and new interesting projects, traveling with friends 🏇⛷️🏃🏌️🚴🏋️🤾🤸, introducing us to interesting 😂 corners of Britain. All the best to you, dear Paul, I like it 👍, as always, see you again! Bye... bye...💋💋💋❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍🎨🖼️😊😊😊
Hello sweet Adela! 👋🏻🙋🏻♀️Hope you have a blessed day! I may try to paint this. (I say that every Wednesday. 🤦🏻♀️) I still need to finish a commission and package it up for shipping. 💌📬 Didn’t you say you work with oils? Maybe try it with oil. I still wait to see if you post on your channel. 👀 We need to be brave like Paul and step out of our comfort zone. 🚧 Much love! ❤🙏🏻🥰
@@stampinturtles Hello dear girl Jacqueline! (let me call you that😊) I will definitely publish my works on my channel, gradually, because I can’t do everything at once simultaneously. Try painting in oils, I’m sure you’ll be able to paint beautifully and it’s not difficult to paint with oils, it’s more difficult to paint with watercolors, you’ll like it, I’m sure. Lately I’ve become interested in watercolors, and I’ve already forgotten about oils. But now I’ve read your comment and I again had the desire to paint in oils! Today Paul’s lesson was easy in technique and I am grateful to him! By the way, I placed his photo on my smartphone and tablet and I admire it every moment and immediately want to draw as soon as I look at it!😂😂 😂🤣🤣🤣😄😄😄
When I discovered your videos a year or two ago, I hoped I would learn to paint a little and to become better at drawing. Indeed, I learnt about materials, techniques, values, colours, shadows, contrast ... But I realize that now, I'm also looking at art differently. I tell myself I'm starting to understand why I "like" a specific picture, statue, building, etc. And that in turn helps me to become a better painter too. Thanks so much and kind greetings from Antwerp, Belgium!
Hi Paul … Barb O. from California …great lesson. Definitely liked the second landscape piece the best. It’s interesting in the still life my eyes/brain missed the shadows..this style is very static… loved the bright colors. The black lines in the landscape made it look very elementary/cartoonish… liked it without but i get it.. that was the artists style. Yes 4 sure this would b excellent 4 a beginner pInter. I found my self thinking of gouache in the still life.. ill try that & add some shadows… back 2 looser painting… as always thank you 4 showing us different artists styles… i lov 2 see it all & study how the great masters painted. We r definitely fortunate 2b living now with so much inspiration (past & present), abundance of supplies & social media access. Thank you 4 your time to teach.
So enjoyed this! Brave, shameless look you in the face painting. Love the simplicity and vivid contrasting colours. Also the fluid shapes in the cloth as apposed to the solid fruit shapes. Bravo!
Thanks Paul, I love these 'in the style of' videos'. Also intersting to discover new (to me) artists. Thanks for all your hard work, really appreciated.
Thank you another inspirational series artist - August Macke. The paintings and style of the artist take you to just look at the color and the shape!! Safe travels and enjoy!!
Good morning Paul ! I’ve had to stop painting because of a neck/ shoulder issue and I am getting so depressed ! I haven’t been able to do any tutorials or challenges for a few weeks now ! I’m so afraid I’m going to lose everything I’ve just worked so hard to learn ! I’m really hoping today my neck wilI at least let me get through one of these paintings they are both so beautiful ! Thank you Paul , I love the colors ! Blessings to you and Margot!!
I injured my shoulder very badly over 4 months ago and I am looking at 12 more months of physio before I can hope to have mobility back BUT I have totally amazed myself by the things that I have learned to be able to do against the odds including painting. It isn't easy at all when you are in pain and mobility is restricted but please don't give up. Small achievements lead to greater ones and you will recover. I believe that and I am still in a sling for the foreseeable future. Just take it one day at a time and you will surprise yourself! Good luck!
It’s good to take breaks anyway. It’s not good to just crank out another painting. Observe, learn, reflect. Look at your old paintings and critique them with fresh eyes. Painting doesn’t just come from the hand. It requires a sharp mind too. Spend this time learning everything you can. Color theory, complements, discords, spice marks, white gouache on top with WC tints, etc. The masters used so many tricks that us mortals have to study to learn. Feel better!
Inspiring indeed! Just the exercise to break away from my tight, realism - an expressionist line and wash. Definitely going to try this out on one of my own reference photos. Thanks so much, Paul
What a great tutorial, thank you so much, lovely vibrant colours...a great one for me to get out of my comfort zone and paint more vibrantly. Thank you Paul 🙏
😊 hey Paul...., what a beautiful idea , I think Mister Macke will apreciat that we have that fascinated look on what he ever painted ! Realy amazing and those bright colors ❤ so alive ....! Thank you for bringing those two on you-tube ❤😊❤
Ahhh my bright colors kind of painting! I am loving the simplicity of the painting with the colors. This is definitely a new artist for me as well. I have been inspired by all of these artists you mentioned. This is just the wonderful boost for my mood this week across the pond! Thanks for sharing this great video!
Good afternoon, dear Paul, or Olá! Simplicity, mixed with vibrant colors, your skills, talent and love for art give birth to this beautiful paintings. Thanks for sharing with us and good luck in Portugal! Greetings from Moldova, Lilia
Really enjoyed this one. I appreciate learning about other artists as you paint. The music is fabulous and gives one the incentive to get painting. I’m going to try this one. I love all of your work and your style. Thank you!
Very brave to step out of your comfort zone. Not keen on this sort of thing really but love the vibrant colours. As I'm still fairly new I will try these as an exercise as you suggest

I had not known of August Macke, and I was so glad you introduced his art and a bit of his history to us. I love this expressionist style, and one has to wonder what other spectacular paintings he would have done had he not died so young. I'm also amazed at how with the use of certain colors you were able to capture such vibrancy in watercolor. By the way, I love the various shirts you wear - they crack me up. Thanks again. USA viewer
