Everybody Have Fun Tonight Peter Wolf Wang Chung Lyrics by: igualteconomas request your favorite song Here is an explanation of where "wang chung" comes from kearth101.cbslo...
When I was in elementary school back in the late 80's, I would hear this song regularly on the radio when the bus driver turned it on. It's a vague memory from my childhood.
@@nolee6728 If we decide to, we can make our *present moments* pleasant experiences, too. Granted, I also often feel that way, and it's normal human nature to idealize the past -- along with the comforting, familiar settings we were in at that time. But we often sometimes forget about the bumps and bruises we encountered in those days.
I don’t think we will see two consecutive decades like the 1980s and 1990s for a very long time. We were so fascinated by the newest technology and looking forward to what the future would bring. It doesn’t seem to be that way quite as much anymore, even though we are currently living in the 21st Century we were looking forward to then.
"On the edge of oblivion, and all the world is Babylon, and all the love and everyone, a ship of fools sailing on". I always found that an interesting verse in a party song, and quite prophetic.
Watching this video and reading this comment in January of 2022. Oh how right you were (whoever or wherever you are now 8 years later)! Very prophetic indeed. I was a teenager in the 80's. Who would have ever dreamed (nightmare really) we would be where we are now. Hence, me finding old music videos to cheer myself up a bit.
When I was little, I thought "Everybody Wang Chung tonight" was "Everybody Went Jump tonight." I used that as an excuse to jump on my parents' bed as a six-year-old in the 80's.
One of my favorite 80's songs of all time...One of my first music collections was a box of old cassette tapes my Dad gave me, and one of them had this song on it, which I listened to a lot.
Wang Chung was the name of their band. They got it from the Chinese word Huang Chung meaning yellow bell which meant the name of the first note of a traditional Chinese musical tuning. Huang Chung was their original name and later changed to Wang Chung. 😊
"Frasier from a Cheers ep: I was listening to a rock and roll station on my way over here, you know to put me in the mood. There was a passage in one of those tribal songs that I feel, well, is the keynote for this evening. Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody Wang Chung tonight."
If this is one of the one-hit-wonders, they could do worse, some people never have one success, and, this one has people singing it for generations afterwards! Very Well Done!
On this day in 1986 {December 21st} "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100* chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Walk Like An Egyptian" by The Bangles... And on January 17th, 1987, "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Canadian RPM Singles chart, then it was replaced at #1 by "Walk Like An Egyptian"... Between 1983 and 1989 the London, England band had eight records on the Top 100 chart, two made the Top 10, the above "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and "Let's Go", #9 for one week in April of 1987... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of Billboard's Top 10 on December 21st, 1986: At #3. "Notorious" by Duran Duran #4. "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott #5. "The Way It Is" by Bruce Hornsby and The Range #6. "C'est La Vie" by Robbie Nevil #7. "Control" by Janet Jackson #8. "War" by Bruce Springsteen #9. "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King #10. "Don't Get Me Wrong" by The Pretenders
@@I_Shit_on_your_shit_point, it was a graduation, a commencement, a marriage of audio, video, and dance. Coke was a vehicle, but a short lived one, for most. Fun, yes, innocent, hardly.
Blame the media and blame schools for adding sex Ed. Blame rappers for glorifying crime. The 80’s were around the time they started adding sex Ed to schools and around the time they got violent with the rap.
We graduated the same year back in 2008. Back in the Summer of 2017, we unexpectedly crossed paths at a free music festival that happens near my house. She approached me and tried to remind me that we went to high school and that we graduated nine years before. She asked me to dance with her, but a male classmate was with her. I said nothing back and looked around for a good spot to watch the concert.
And most music today sucks, with one example being rap; cars, drugs, money, and sex. If it was about an ongoing social or political issue, then maybe I will listen to it.
Does it really matter if you came because of borderlands or some crap 70's show? No. We're all here because we share a common thought. That this song is good.
"Can you tell me what a 'Wang Chung' is?" I hollered when I heard that part!!! That's so funny. Imagine listening to this song wondering what a Wang Chung was, and then you come across that part where someone sings that question exact question. LMAO!!
Wikipedia say, "The name Wang Chung means "yellow bell" in Chinese (黃鐘, pinyin: huáng zhōng; Wade-Giles: huang chung), and is the first note in the Chinese classical music scale."
On this day in 1986 {December 21st} "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung peaked at #2 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; it had entered the chart on October 28th at position #82 and spent 19 weeks on the Top 100... It also reached #2 on the Canadian RPM Top Hits chart The one week it was at #2 "Walk Like An Egyptian" by the Bangles was in its 2nd week at #1 on the Top 100... Was track one on side one of the group's album, 'Mosaic', the album peaked at #41 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart...
This is for the 21 years of education endured and overcame certain fires to get a university business diploma . Everybody have fun tonight for 2022 CHAMPIONS COLORADO AVALANCHE !!!!!
@MissNayNay To answer the question in the song: "Wang chung" is a 1960's beatnik term that means playing guitar. "What are you gonna do tonight, man?" "Just hang out at the pad and wang chung". The term comes from what they perceived as the sound of strumming an acoustic guitar. observer9670 hace 2 semanas
The 1981 was calling me to have a 80's Fanfiction style party in 2019 to 2020 with my fav Fandom and ships and crossovers lets go to the club and on to the dance floor,Earthlings and Martians with the Multiverse. P-A-R-T-Y why ? Because i gotta. and let the song says Everybody have fun tonight.

my father was in hs when this came out. he'd used to blast it to and from school
I was in the 2nd grade when Hey Jude by the Beatles was a hit and in my mid 20s when this song was a hit. I enjoyed them both.
A lot of songs I have the most memories of I used to hear on the school bus a lot.
To me, this song seems to summarize the 1980's. Very upbeat, exciting, positive. Brings back a lot of wonderful memories!

love it when you're drunk and shout out "everybody have fun tonight" and then some drunk stranger replies "everybody Wang Chung tonight!"
