I was in the 2nd grade when Hey Jude by the Beatles was a hit and in my mid 20s when this song was a hit. I enjoyed them both.
A lot of songs I have the most memories of I used to hear on the school bus a lot.
To me, this song seems to summarize the 1980's. Very upbeat, exciting, positive. Brings back a lot of wonderful memories!

Granted, I also often feel that way, and it's normal human nature to idealize the past -- along with the comforting, familiar settings we were in at that time. But we often sometimes forget about the bumps and bruises we encountered in those days.
I don’t think we will see two consecutive decades like the 1980s and 1990s for a very long time. We were so fascinated by the newest technology and looking forward to what the future would bring. It doesn’t seem to be that way quite as much anymore, even though we are currently living in the 21st Century we were looking forward to then.

I always found that an interesting verse in a party song, and quite prophetic.

I was a teenager in the 80's. Who would have ever dreamed (nightmare really) we would be where we are now. Hence, me finding old music videos to cheer myself up a bit.
When I was little, I thought "Everybody Wang Chung tonight" was "Everybody Went Jump tonight." I used that as an excuse to jump on my parents' bed as a six-year-old in the 80's.

Wang Chung was the name of their band. They got it from the Chinese word Huang Chung meaning yellow bell which meant the name of the first note of a traditional Chinese musical tuning. Huang Chung was their original name and later changed to Wang Chung. 😊

On this day in 1986 {December 21st} "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" by Wang Chung peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100* chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Walk Like An Egyptian" by The Bangles...
And on January 17th, 1987, "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" reached #1 {for 1 week} on the Canadian RPM Singles chart, then it was replaced at #1 by "Walk Like An Egyptian"...
Between 1983 and 1989 the London, England band had eight records on the Top 100 chart, two made the Top 10, the above "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" and "Let's Go", #9 for one week in April of 1987...

We graduated the same year back in 2008. Back in the Summer of 2017, we unexpectedly crossed paths at a free music festival that happens near my house. She approached me and tried to remind me that we went to high school and that we graduated nine years before. She asked me to dance with her, but a male classmate was with her. I said nothing back and looked around for a good spot to watch the concert.

@MissNayNay To answer the question in the song: "Wang chung" is a 1960's beatnik term that means playing guitar. "What are you gonna do tonight, man?" "Just hang out at the pad and wang chung". The term comes from what they perceived as the sound of strumming an acoustic guitar.
