    Awww... the garden looks good! Makes me sad you don't have a few more weeks to get it all to produce for you.
    Great shower there McGuyver!
    I'm really impressed with the progress Mr Reeve is making towards the barn too. The lumber looks great!
    Its amazing to me- daily, how fast time flies. And then... this video shows up and you're already looking at having to close out your garden for the season. It just boggles my little brain how short your season REALLY is. I'm praying for a long, warm fall for you guys! 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤

      Thanks friend! Even though Mr. Reeve is very sure we will NEVER overwinter the garden again, I think it really made the difference of whether we got a crop this year or not. Everything grew so fast! Things were literally planted 6 weeks ago!

      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska that's a crazy short time to look as good as some of that stuff looks!

    The quonset shower was an awesome idea!! Garden looks great! I just had a thought for all the lettuce, Since you have space in greenhouse, you can hang it upside down to dry it, then powder it to add to soups, casseroles, etc. If you have an old folding laundry rack, it can be used to dry that and your herbs. Loved the excitement over the carrot flowering!! Keep a close eye on those heads. At moment I have onion seed drying. I've never grew from seed, that's next yrs experiment! Have a great day! 😊

      I think thats a great idea, but the relative humidity to so high in August, I’m afraid they’d just mold. If nothing else, we can turn them into bacon. 🐷

    Ingenious shower 🙂. I love your sundress, so pretty. Beautiful tomatoes. They did so well! And the cabbages are so perfect. Mine are all bug eaten. All the lettuce wow! Great job on all that lumber Mr. Reeve. ❤🙏Val C

    Showering outside is refreshing. Homemade soap with lye is fun to make. So much you can do with green tomatoes. Welcome to the jungle. Hushhh. They have ears (corn). Stuffed blossoms. Awesome veggies. Jerky broccoli. Pretty water drop. Roasted radishes. Pea shoots. Yummy. Save the seeds on everything you can. Potato blossoms are pretty. Stay safe my friends ☺️

    I am so jealous of your tomatoe plants! Between the aphids & tomatoe hornworm I will be surprised if I get 1 tomatoe. My Swiss chard keeps growing also. I have a cool veggie that's new to me, longevity spinach. I keeps growing all year & is on a vine type. Bty...love the summer shower you got. 😊

      We get aphids here, but no tomato horn…at least I’ve never seen one. Not too many bugs here. We make up for it with Mosquitos. Ha!

    That’s great about the strawberries overwintering!! Yay!! Can’t wait to see the new barn, and of course the potato harvest!!
    Would definitely like to see the cauliflower recipe that the Mr. was talking about.

      We’ll definitely do the cauliflower recipe. Its actually super simple, but he thinks its magical. Works for me. 😊

    I also live in a dry cabin. Love my outdoor shower stall, even in winter, though it does get very cold! Propane heated claw foot tub outdoors also provides a different air of oneness with nature! Love your summer shower idea in greenhouse with natural soap. Good job!

    Wow that garden though!! I guess that's the perks of long daylight hours and rain. Chick weed tastes good and is very healthy for you. Good idea for the outdoor shower and you have privacy too! All that lumber looks great.

      Thanks Miss Marlene! I really think having the animals overwinter in the garden brought so much fertility to the garden. It grew really fast this year!

    There is always next for an earlier planting. But given the weather you did great! I throw in the towel after all my starts stopped growing.

    Maters split their skin when they grow too fast, no problem. Pick some of the small green ones, quarter them and put them in boiling mixture of half water and half vinegar. Add couple hot peppers and spoon of salt on top. they will seal when cooled. Wait couple of weeks and yum.

    If a spider is unfortunate enough to lose a leg, then provided it still has at least one more moult left in its life cycle it's able to grow a new leg. In most species the new leg is thinner and shorter than the original leg. It can take two or three moults until the regenerated limb matches the original in appearance.

    Do y'all eat fried green tomatoes. Here in GA we love them

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey friend! It’s not a staple here, that’s for sure. I think that’s because we really don’t get big harvests of tomatoes here. But we do eat lots of of smoked salmon, does that count. Ha!

    Amazing video, would love to add this to my land, can you build out in Willow without a permit , at least a 200 sf off grid recreation cabin, or can you build larger without a permit. ??

  • @thetabensons6686
    @thetabensons6686 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have had land out in Willow for decades , would like to build any wisdom or ideal or laws I should be aware of ??

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey friend. There’s not any building regulations in Willow. 😊

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว

      Advice we would give: make sure you don’t build on a swamp, make sure you know where your water table is. Dig 10 feet down to bury your waterline. When you build a foundation be aware that the ground heaves between winter and summer. 😊

  • @smallspaceswithGloria

    Wil you’re beans grow inside in bucket?

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly, but theres not time enough in the season for them really to grow anywhere but inside the house. I really want like 50 bean plants to make beans. Ha! I think I might start them indoors next year. Can’t be any worse than this year. The issue is that the direct sow stuff is the last to go in the ground, so, by the time we get to it, we are way way behind. Ha!
