Rus, get yourself a hand winch and you will nearly always get your van moving when the wheels have lost traction - combine that with your traction boards and its a winning team. We have a heavy duty one but those lightweight small 30 quid, 3 ton ones off ebay work fine, they usually only have 3 mts or so of strap so get a long long towing strap as a add on as u need to anchor it to another vehicle positioned on firm ground, a tree, rock, lamb post, etc. In many ways better than a front mounted electric winch as u can attach it to the rear of a van, which is often the best way out on a sticky situation - plus, use a rope, add a pulley and it doubles the pulling power!

Strip of 18mm ply with rows of M8 nuts and bolts drilled at 50mm centres, very effective traction boards for under a tenner 👍

Top tip Royal, tie them with rope to towing eye on the front if reversing out of the situation or rear towing point if driving forward.

Took up my suggestion. We have Maxtrax come with tethers like a leash that’s trails behind. So when buried something to see. Maxtrax have a lot more lugs than the cheaper ones. Don’t wheels spin on them. It burns a hole straight through. I’ve seen the cheaper ones crack and split. Never seen a Maxtrax split. Loving the adventure mate.

@@TheNomadicVeteran be good for the channel. You can do a comparison then. I think some of the other non Maxtrax boards are probably good. But I know for sure Maxtrax are.

There is a product on the market that goes through the gap in your wheels like a tie wrap with spikes , would certainly consider something like that . Take care mate .

Personally if I was travelling yes I'd get 2 sets of traction boards but I'd check out on you tube on the thoughts on the different makes & how they perform 😁 Give yours a quick spray maybe orange 🤗

Like the tips. If you think ground might be dodgy is it worth parking on the tracks immediately? 😎

Top tip. Tie a few meters of para cord to the ends of the boards facing the direction of exit then tie the other end to the front bumper (if you are reversing out) then once your unstuck and driving the para cord recovers the boards for you so you don’t have to go back in the mud/sand to find them 😉

@@TheNomadicVeteran Hey Rus, no I don't have any traction boards but then again I don't have a van yet either! :D I'm still in the world of work out here in Oman and just getting as much info from the people already doing it for when I can get into the lifestyle myself. Hopefully sooner rather than later. In the meantime I'm enjoying the vlogs and dreaming.

To improve the design they should make it split in 2 but be able to be connected as well, so if needs be once on them you could take the halfs not being used and connect them to the ones that are, and like leapfrog the boards until you're out...otherwise like that time you was stuck in the mud once you're on them and drive off and loose traction again you gotta struggle getting on top of them again
