The very first firearm that I’ve ever purchased for myself was the TP9SA. I got my carry permit shortly after, and carried that baby for 3 years. Absolutely love it. Replaced it for the M&P 2.0 for everyday carry, but it serves as our secondary home defense firearm. Absolutely love that brand, and will always be faithful.
M&P came a long way with their product. I remember when these guns were terrible. I bought my gf the EZ 9mm and I like it more than some of my guns. Great choice for an EDC.

I have had my Canik SF9 Elite SC for a while now and carry it confidently. I have had no malfunctions. I have an older Canik TP9 SA that did what you're gun is doing. After thoroughly cleaning the lubricant/protectant out of the gun and relubricating with my oil, the gun proceeded to run about 5-6 thousand rounds through it with no malfunctions. If the thorough cleaning does not work, then consider the ammunition. Weak ammo will also cause that malfunction. If the gun has been cleaned well and the ammo is not weak, there is some mechanical issue. For example, the wrong recoil spring, a bad ejector, or something slowing the slide down. Send it to Century Arms for repair with a complete explanation of what is happening.
I had slide / spring related issues with both of my Elites but the issues cleared up after about 300 rounds each and after putting about 800 rounds through each of them they both shoot flawlessly. Planning to get an SC now to actually replace my S&W Shield 1.0.
Mine had this issue as well, I started using 124gr NATO ammo for target practice with no issues at all. Also never had an issue with any grain of self defense ammo. Another issue I ran across was mags falling out. That turned out to be the mag release spring was improperly installed. I love this gun. Best semi auto handgun I own.
It's been said by everyone who has 1. These use 124 nato. After a box or 2, takes anything. I have 2. That's the sure way. I keep underwood 68 +p in mine. Tack driver and never fails. I've heard these can fire 60k plus rounds.
I got my SC and ran 150rds of PPU 124gr FMJ NATO and a few Federal Defense 124gr HST, not a single problem. Also my TP9 SA Mod.2 not a single problem ran about the same amount of rds through each. My Mete SFX has been flawless through several hundred rounds. Mostly running Blazer 115 grain. Never heard of locking the slide back for any amount of time or doing any other prepping.
I like reviews like this that show the shortcomings on the guns. It’s easy to just get a gun and sing its praises, but if a gun has issues I’d rather find it before buying than find out if/when I really need it.

In Turkey, they set up their guns to shoot NATO spec 9mm ammo and Those guns ship with a NATO ammunition rated recoil spring on the guide rod. That type of ammo has slightly different parameters as far as ballistics are concerned. If you swap out the spring for a standard spec 9mm ammo recoil spring, you'll solve/eliminate the stovepipe problem, regardless of what grain ammo you shoot. But yeah also break in your gun too obviously. Just be careful cuz multiple stovepipes can damage your extractor pin...
Stove piping is somewhat common on a new CANIK. There are 3 different springs for CANIK Blue for normal range ammo , White for nato an plus p ammo, red for plus and plus p plus. Clean very well and lube heavily with a very light grade gun oil, such as Rem oil. Cycle the slide 200 to 300 times slowly and fully. Leave slide locked open all the time for a week or so. After initial break in you generally never have another problem. I use the Blue tip recoil spring assy. for all my general shooting and hand loads and range ammo. I use the white guide rod assy. for all the hotter loads. After leaving the slide locked back and cycling the slide 300 times using light lube with blue spring. I never had any more problems after shooting over 300 rounds. There are several sites with recoil assy.'s for sale (optic planet) and CANIK. and other sites. Sometimes Canik is out.
I had to lock my sig m11a1 open for a few days and that cured the failure to extract/eject…. Many guns require a break in period. I only carry after 1k rounds have been cycled through at a reliable rate on ANY gun.
I never had that issue with my SC, and I ran about 150 rounds of 115 grain Blazer Brass when I first got it, hadn't left the slide open for days or anything that I had read some people had done with older TP9's before. I thought Canik had corrected these issues, because I used to see comments about it referring to older TP9's. I had seen comments about Canik sending them lighter springs if contacted. My first Canik, a TP9 SA Mod 2 (bought 5 years ago) didn't have the issue either. They make hundreds of thousands of these firearms for military that are NATO spec (tons of METE's more recently), law enforcement contracts and domestic so maybe they have batches where the heavier springs are mixed up, who knows. Hopefully the issue was sorted out.
Hey just purchased one today and put 135 rounds into earlier of 115gr blazer bronze case never had a single malfunction at all sucks u havin this problem

Not to knock Canik, but mine did the same thing. Before I shot it, I cleaned and oiled it. I get told that it was perhaps the ammo and I was using 124 g. I haven't shot it since, but will try soon.
I love my TP9 Elite SC. I have a Romeo Zero on it. Deadly accurate and best trigger out of the box in my opinion. I own many different pistol brands but this gun is one of my favorites by far.
I have a TP9SF and I was shooting it for the first time with ZERO ejection issues. My son fired it and every other shot was doing exactly what this is doing. I had him tighten up his grip just a bit to manage recoil and the problem went away entirely. I was putting 145g through, I've yet to try 115gr so we'll see what happens then. But I definitely want to pick up one of these for EDC.
My Canik TP0 Elite SC became my main carry. I've always use Federal FMJ 124 at the range and never jammed. I also carry the Federal HST 124 to keep consistent. Super quick gun...shoots nice and flat.
The malfunction could just as easily be ammo related. Cheaper loads for range sessions tend to jam guns. For the range, I use nothing my Sellier and Bellot. They’re relatively cheaper than some and I picked up 2K rounds of it at a gun show for a great price. I’ve never had an issue. Then one day, I brought 200 rounds with me just get in a quick shoot. After I was done. I decided to pick up another 50 rounds at the range. It was some cheap ammo. I figured only 50 rounds, what can go wrong. On my second clip, a round failed to eject. Other than that, everything else was fine, but I must have put over 2K rounds through that gun and that was the first time it has ever happened.
I noticed that you were only using the 15 round magazines did you try with the 12 round magazine. In my experience a magazine malfunction may be the culprit.
Ik you mention that the magazine release was not ambidextrous but it can be reversed for lefty’s, a little difficult to swap. Only issue with the gun is magazines are almost impossible to find. Thank god they give you two with it
I have a TP9 SF & a TP9 Elite sc. Didn’t lock the slides back, and I use CCI blazers straight out of the box. Never had any issues at all about anything. I wish the slide in the sc was a little easier to rack. Still stiff after 200 Rounds. Other than that, fantastic. 🎉
This review came back around in my feed after a year. From my last post here at 200 rounds, I’ve counted just under 1000 rounds now. I have since added a freedomsmith trigger, and go back and forth with the Canik 4.1” barrel with a compensator. Original recoil spring STILL stiff 😂
As soon as you purchase the firearm take it home charge back the upper receiver and lock it. Let it sit overnight. Next morning close it and go shoot. It compresses The recoil spring under a long period of time and the gun will shoot better. Metal memory folks!
Wow. That is so disappointing about the ejection issue. I just got a TP9 Elite Combat and fired my first 300 rounds the last couple of days with zero issues. Functioned flawlessly so far. And my practice/break in rounds are nothing special. They are your average, rather inexpensive CCI Blazer 124 grain FMJ. I plan on having my first thousand rounds through it within a week so fingers crossed it continues to perform as perfectly as the first 300. Think I’ll stick with 124 grain FMJ for practice and 124 HP for carry. Usually the more you fire it and break it in, the less chance of malfunctions.
That gun is ambi, all you have to do is switch the mag release to the other side.🤪 curious why you had such a problem with yours, mine has eaten 115g and up.
I've never had this problem with my Canik TP9 Elite SC. I've have the problem with the Kimber Micro 9 many times, but never with the Canik. Your ammo may be the problem or it wasn't cleaned well?
This SC is common to have issue with 115 grain range ammo before a good break in. Not all. I shot mine new today and no issues with stovepipe. But shooters are recommending to not run 115 grain until broken in
Personally I have the canik great gun to conceal, love it and all, but if you have the budget for both I would say get the hellcat for conceal carry and canik for your arsenal, my cousin has the hellcat and it’s a huge noticeable difference, only thing is my canik is way easier to handle and better accuracy
Just checked the website and the lighter spring is 30 bucks so not too bad. They seemed to have fixed this problem on other models so why this one is still shipping with that spring is a little puzzling knowing that it's been the source of the issue on other models.
"That's why I prefer Glocks!".... You are absolutely right, my friend. Canik pistols are nice, but Glocks are reliable...and this is the most important thing when you own a gun.
This is the first person I’ve ever seen to have a problem with there canik, seems as if there’s something going on with the spring which canik does sell springs to throw in there which takes 3 seconds to install for different grain rounds. Seem it’s too stiff for the ammo that’s being shot. I have the tp9 sf elite, canik rival , canik tp9 SA , and tp9 SFX and I did not have a single problem with any of them out the box.
I carry a SAR K2P 9mm and it is s fabulous firearm. I'm now looking for a Canik Sub Compact. I would like to see you do a review on the SAR K2P P, I do believe that you would like this pistol. M.C.
The grain of ammo shouldn't make difference in my view should fire what ever you feed it maybe just needs to be broke in more great video brother TO GOD ALONE BELONGS THE GLORY!
Amen brother, thank you for watching! And yea, I agree, shouldn't be so picky on the ammo. We actually ended up sending it back to Conik and they replaced the guide rod. Haven't had any problems since, so I might do another review.
I had to get a Bloody Wheels mag sleeve to make it feel better in my hand and not having a gap. But I do understand why the gap is there, better for stripping the mag, but not for me. Love my pistol.
Need to run high powered 115grain off the bat or 124gr with a higher punch so you get a good recoil weak powered 115 grain bullets when it starts it will have some feeding issues but anything 124 gr or higher for the first 2-300 rds and then runs like butter
I had the same issue (stove pipe) with my P320 M18. I sent it back and they hone the barrel. Haven’t an issue since. I thought it was an ammo issue or break in period at 1st.
I had an issue with mine consistantly not going into battery. Canik rep sent me the lighter spring. Haven't had a chance to test it. Anyone had this issue with a happy ending? Otherwise love the gun

I noticed that you were only using the 15 round magazines did you try with the 12 round magazine. In my experience a magazine malfunction may be the culprit.
Note: I think Canik will send you the lighter spring if you ask them and if you have it the slide should be a lot easier to rack as well.
Thanks for teaching how to clear a jam by releasing the magazine.
For most of us this is some real basic stuff... but I have seen sooo many times people start stressing out and wavering the gun all over 😬
2:56 is that a malfunction?
love my canik tp9sc elite! owed two and never had an issue! love that you can also use the full size mags with the sc as well
Got mine and ran 160 bullets of 115 fmj brass and it ran just fine out the box even opened it up about 5 times before shooting Tp9 DA
Ive never had this issue..I too use 115 and 124 grain..its my everyday carry and my preferred range shooter...seem to be a lube and oil issue
Is this so it can use +P and mushroom hollow points without a longer barrel. The right ammo is NATO 9mm. or +P.
Never had any problems out of my caniks
Ik you mention that the magazine release was not ambidextrous but it can be reversed for lefty’s, a little difficult to swap. Only issue with the gun is magazines are almost impossible to find. Thank god they give you two with it
I have a TP9 SF & a TP9 Elite sc. Didn’t lock the slides back, and I use CCI blazers straight out of the box. Never had any issues at all about anything. I wish the slide in the sc was a little easier to rack. Still stiff after 200
Rounds. Other than that, fantastic. 🎉
Good to know. I have the Elite SC in my sights but wary to pull the trigger and buy. Thanks! 👍🏽
TP9 Elite, 500 shots and no malfunction.
I've heard you can contact them and they'll send you a softer spring so it ejects better on American ammo
How’s it holding up so far?
That gun is ambi, all you have to do is switch the mag release to the other side.🤪 curious why you had such a problem with yours, mine has eaten 115g and up.
I've never had this problem with my Canik TP9 Elite SC. I've have the problem with the Kimber Micro 9 many times, but never with the Canik. Your ammo may be the problem or it wasn't cleaned well?
This SC is common to have issue with 115 grain range ammo before a good break in.
Not all. I shot mine new today and no issues with stovepipe.
But shooters are recommending to not run 115 grain until broken in
The slide is hitting your thumb so it can’t go all the way back or it gets caught
Has anyone ever had problems with light primer strikes. It would make an ident in the primer, but the round wouldn't fire.
I like the locked and cocked indicators.
I just bought on of these and shot 115g all day yesterday with no malfunctions. Strange.
Thank you. I was debating getting a Canik. This is the second video I’ve watched with a failure to eject with Canik. I’ll stick to M&P.
Why does that gun look so big in your hand?
😂
Need a gun to carry/conceal. You recommend this or a Hellcat?
Personally I have the canik great gun to conceal, love it and all, but if you have the budget for both I would say get the hellcat for conceal carry and canik for your arsenal, my cousin has the hellcat and it’s a huge noticeable difference, only thing is my canik is way easier to handle and better accuracy
Ya Iv Heard that out the box you should run a box of hot ammo then the 124 should do it also there is a spring change you can do I heard works.
Are you sure the mag release isn't reversible? Academy sports says it is
Just checked the website and the lighter spring is 30 bucks so not too bad. They seemed to have fixed this problem on other models so why this one is still shipping with that spring is a little puzzling knowing that it's been the source of the issue on other models.
Very good review. Comprehensive.
I have the same issue with mine. Can't trust it for CC. Maybe I'll try different ammo.
M.C.
I never had this issue but I did break it in with 124 gr rounds like recommended
Yea idk this has never happened to me on my canik unless i used a shitty pro mag. But besides that shoots flawlessly
You from Ft Myers ?
Yes Sir!
All the caniks I was around love 124 nato
Bet you it'd like 147gr even better. Big and slow in a short barrel.
115gr no bueno.
“That’s why I like glock”
Thems fightin words lol
lol I know right.
Not sure what he is doing. I have run over 600 rounds 115 without any issues, and I am using the cheapest ammo I can get.
I have shot multiple rounds 115,124,147Auto but not a single issue only two miss fires when it was brand new otherwise it worked as a champ
I had to get a Bloody Wheels mag sleeve to make it feel better in my hand and not having a gap. But I do understand why the gap is there, better for stripping the mag, but not for me. Love my pistol.
That gap was bothering me as well when I took mine to the range. Thanks for posting about the fix, I'll have to look into that.
@@synthesis12 A really good product. 👍
Need to run high powered 115grain off the bat or 124gr with a higher punch so you get a good recoil weak powered 115 grain bullets when it starts it will have some feeding issues but anything 124 gr or higher for the first 2-300 rds and then runs like butter
I’m looking at her for my new edc 😍😍😍😍
I had the same issue (stove pipe) with my P320 M18. I sent it back and they hone the barrel. Haven’t an issue since. I thought it was an ammo issue or break in period at 1st.
I had an issue with mine consistantly not going into battery. Canik rep sent me the lighter spring. Haven't had a chance to test it. Anyone had this issue with a happy ending? Otherwise love the gun
The problem with the ejection is your fault because your grip.
This is NOT a tiny subcompact! And the slide definitely NOT an easy slide to rack. Lol. Very hard for sure! It does shoot great though. Tight groups.
Maybe it’s the ammo and I seen a Glock jam next to a Taurus G3c . So in reality any gun can jam but also sometimes there is the bad lemons .
Never had an issue with any of my Caniks. All run flawlessly.
It's still in its break-in period. I wouldn't judge it too much until you have around 500 rounds through it.
Very informative video. Thank you. I'm sub'd
It’s the shooter have 4 Canik’s shot thousands of rounds in each no malfunction
AYOOOO!! A gun youtube channel who is also a fellow christian & is starting a church! Praise God!
Was he using refurbished rounds?
No actually, these are not refurbished.
