Congrats! For those reading and thinking: "Wow, homebirths are crazy! Just because of how it's done, doesn't mean they're safe!" I want to emphasize that, specifically in the Netherlands homebirths are proven to be very safe. Midwifes are profesionally trained (specialised nurses, with a college degree), and very capable of assessing whether your pregnancy is safe enough for a home birth. The fact that it is very hard to live more than an hour away from a hospital (maybe even more than half an hour), helps with getting laboring people to the hospital quickly in case there are unforseen complications. You will also absolutely get more than 3 ultrasounds if they are needed and risks in pregnancy are taken very seriously. This video is great! But I wanted to emphasize that the culture around pregnancy is still very much science-based, while also being laid-back.

There are a few sides to being kicked out of the hospital rather quickly. One is the obvious one: A hospital bed is expensive, and you are a patient here, not a client. Congratulations to the parents and the baby! Welcome to the world little one. Tip for the parents: do everything you would usually do, like vacuum, clean, walk around, listen to music, and so on. Do it at the times you would usually do too. The baby will get used to noise and sleep like a baby should. In the USA I see parents do the opposite and when the baby is asleep everything has to be quiet. Because the baby gets used to that, it wakes up from all sounds. I used to vacuum especially when the baby was asleep and even next to his bed and he slept through the night within a couple of months.
Congratulations for the both if you on the birth of your daughter! You radiate happiness and relief so I expect it al went well for yoy three. Enjoy a happy kraamtijd and a nice and cozy startup after that ❤
Congratulations to you and your partner with your new daughter. The beginning of a new adventure. May the future be bright for you and your family. Don't forget to look into the maternity boxes that are offered. They may help reduce some of the initial costs for you as new parents.
The cost for health insurance is around 130 E a month. It is also the biggest cost for the government around 100 Billion a year. So we actually pay a lot more if you would add up all the taxes that are needed to fund the system. However, paying tax is a lot better then getting hit with 10s of thousands of euros bills from the hospital. It spreads the risk around which makes it affordable for almost everyone.
Congratulations with your little girl. How nice for you and your wife that you have new life in your home and that it all went well. Thanks for your explanation of the differences on this between the US and the Netherlands. I like your openminded and positive approach in general.
Congratulations to you both and welcome to the world little daughter (I had two). may you all be healthy and happy. Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.

Congrats with the daughter, I'm so happy for you both. And so proud you did the homebirth. Looking forward to see more evangelizing home birth ❤ Meanwhile, enjoy the little brat, some nights you would hope they grow faster, but it's short and intensive joy, the "kraamtijd"
My congratulations on the birth of your Daughter to both you and your Wife, Ava.. Your story took me back to the birth of our child many years ago, that was intended to be at home, but ended up in a battle of over 14 hours in Hospital due to complications. But, man, after she was born... such bliss. Different from what you described, before birth, we were able to follow a practical course in basic baby-care (with dummy-babies), provided by the "Kruisvereniging".. Ofcourse we also had Kraamzorg which was absolutely great. But now for you and your Wife the long journey of parenting begins, which will get more complicated when your Daughter grows older. In many cases that parenting journey is also a journey into yourself.. for you will be confronted with yourself from time to time. Congratulations from a Dutch father working now temporarily in The States (Tampa, Florida). The next chapter of the whole process gonna be the 'consultatie bureau' which my wife and I like to call ' het consternatie bureau' little Dutch word joke. Try to find out 😊. One tip when you go to that bureau: talk with your parents in law before instead of just copy-paste everything they tell you to do. The consternatie bureau😅 is set up in such a way that it can help and monitor the most brain-dead people. So, their advice is basically tuned for that part of the population.
Good luck and much love for your baby
Haha. I do still love the 'consternatie bureau' joke. But to be honest I must say that I didn't feel there was any 'issue' with both my children. Granted, I had it easy with to healthy and problem free kids. But still the vibe I got was "Don't worry so much as a parent. It's all fine". That was basically the response on every question we had. "Sir, your children are growing fine (along their own scales) and they seem happy and responsive. Keep doing what you are doing." So, pretty calming and reassuring really.
congratulations to the three of you. It is such a joy to watch your video's because they make me (re)appreciate the blessings one takes for granted being Dutch.
Aww thank you!! ☺️
congratuations with your baby girl. I am a kraamverzorgster, we learn the parents so much, for health reasons. But i stop now, because i can talk about it for hours. i wish you and your wife an baby girl a great start.
Fantastic! A wonderful new life in The Netherlands! Lots of luck to the both of you. Geniet van jullie kleine!
Gefeliciteerd! Ik wens jullie dochter welkom op de wereld, en ik wens jullie alle drie veel geluk samen.
9:24 They test is you might have problems making a home birth dangerous and thus out of the question, and if something does go horribly wrong at home, a hospital is way closer then in the US.
Congratulations! A new Dutchie in the world with two loving parents.
I am so happy for the two (three?) of you!
Congratulations Ava and wife and your daughter.
You are gonna be such great parents. Of that I'm sure.
Wishing the 3 of you, so much the best of all 💖💖💖
Congratulations on the birth of your little girl! It's nice to hear that the care around it has been a good experience for you 😁
Congratulations! And enjoy the baby! Those first few years are just wonderful and I hope you both/three can enjoy these moments to the full.
Gefeliciteerd met jullie kleintje!! Veel gezondheid, geluk en liefde gewenst❤
Congratulations to you and your wife! Thank you for another great video! As a family physician in US, I am very impressed and I love the Dutch process for delivery, it absolutely makes sense. I wish things were like this here, another reason I am planning to move to NL.
Thank you! And how exciting that you're thinking of moving!
@@DutchAmericano I honestly can’t wait!
Congratulations on the little girl. I hope all three of you are doing well. Enjoy your baby, take care and take it easy!
Enjoy a happy kraamtijd and a nice and cozy startup after that ❤
Congratulations with your daughter. Wishing the 3 of you good health and a wonderful long life 💖
Congratulations to you and your partner with your new daughter.
Congratulation!
I also had a daughter 2 months ago, her health notebook has Miffy on it .... we are in Japan 😂
I was surprised to see how much Nijntje stuff there is in Japan! Almost bought a t-shirt with her on it just because I could 😅
@@Nynke_K I went to the clinic today, the doctor has 2 stuff animals, one of them was Miffy! 🥳
Congratz to the both of you! Veel plezier , geluk en gezondheid ❤

Congratulations to you both! Becoming a parent is such a special event, don't forget to have fun together and to enjoy it! It is the cutest nursery room ever!
Gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van jullie dochterje! Het eerste half jaar voor een baby zorgen is best vermoeiend, maar het wordt alleen maar leuker en leuker! 🥰
Congratz to you and your wife with the birth of your baby-girl.
Congratulations.
Hope you all three are doing well
Glad to hear you had such a positive experience.
Enjoy being parents
Congratulations to you and your wife with your daughter! Enjoy all the time with her, our daughter is now 21 years old and her birth was like yesterday.
Congrats with the daughter, I'm so happy for you both. And so proud you did the homebirth. Not that it should be seen as an accomplishment, but there are so many forces working against what really is the most natural way. If it doesn't work out, that's OK, but if it does, like with our two, it's heaven, so relaxed. Looking forward to see more evangelizing home birth ❤ Meanwhile, enjoy the little brat, some nights you would hope they grow faster, but it's short and intensive joy, the "kraamtijd"
Gefeliciteerd en heel, heel veel plezier en liefde met de kleine!
and don’t forget the deductible is a maximum yearly amount, so you won’t be paying that anymore for the rest of the year
My congratulations on the birth of your Daughter to both you and your Wife, Ava..
"Teach your parents well
Their children's hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by" ( Teach your children - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young)
First things first: congratulations!
Welcome to this planet, little earthling!
Btw, it is like this in most of europe.
Not really, the role of the midwife and home births is not very common outside the Netherlands
@@eliseakerboom Um, midwifes are pretty common in Germany, too. Homebirths - well that's a personal decission, not many seem to go for here.
@@peter_meyer In the Netherlands you will always a midwife unless you have medical problems. And homebirths are very common as well.
Congratulations with the birth of your daughter. I love the the cradle or crib. It looks like the one I had . Very nice nursery as well.
Gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van jullie kleine meisje. Veel geluk met jullie gezinnetje
I'm sure the new lady will join a beautiful and inspiring environment. May she grow up as happy and cheerful as you two 🥰
Awww, thank you!
Hi Ava, congratulations to you both. Hartelijk gefeliciteerd met jullie dochter.
I am youngest of three. My mom wanted me to get born at home but due to prenatal issues I was born at a hospital trough a caesarean section. An older brother was actually born at home. Congratulations to both of you with your daughter. 😻❤
Van harte gefeliciteerd met jullie dochter.
Gefeliciteerd met de baby! Wat een leuk filmpje ook weer.
Congratulations! Gefeliciteerd! Mazel tov!
Funny that I see your video, I remember well that my daughter was born (in 2000) in the house and there was an intern there and she came from New Zealand. That shows how our care is and that many can learn from it. And so every country has something that another country can learn from. and congratulations by the way
Gratz to the both of you! and yes that Nijntje light rocks!
Congratulations to you and your wife, Ava! And welcome to your Hollarican baby girl!!! 💖💕🍀
Congratulations, mommy! Gefeliciteerd, mamma!
Congrats to you Ava and your lovely wife, you two will be amazing mothers :D
I cannot wait for the first videos about how raising a little bundle of joy here, in the Netherlands, is different from the USA.
So again, big congrats and enjoy every single second of it, even if will be draining at first, the rewards will be worth all of it.
