  • It was time for the U.S. Navy to get back on track after Pearl Harbor, and in the four-day Battle for the Coral Sea they won victory over the Japanese, before defeating them again in the decisive battle. from Midway. Elsewhere, the Luftwaffe again began to target more British towns in Baedeker's raids.

Your data and thinking are way, way, off track and you should refresh your comment.
Japan was on a fools errand from long before commencement of WW2 hostilities. Japan could NEVER sustain power, it was only a matter of time before defeat happened on home ground. On population alone, never mind natural resources including oil.
The Japanese population in 1940 was "probably" 70m (home islands, mostly agrarian)
      British Empire 500m
      America 130m
      Britain 48m (home islands)
      Australia 7m

aside from the resources, factories that could not be touched and safe training grounds in North America.
even though they had conquered the Philippines it still took military resources to occupy it. The ongoing war with China.
Basically what Japan had done was quick advances without reserve forces. AN attempted sucker punch at pearl harbour that may have sunk some Battleships did nothing to any of the carriers.

Nessa condição mantinha silêncio no rádio.

So true to actually see the horror and inhumanity is like a punch to the face ,the younger generation do not understand the price so many paid for their freedom , it's easy to say this was a long time ago and it would never happen in our time. Show it so maybe they'll know those people believed it could never happen in their time either.

Nimitz transferred dad to the Enterprise for the Midway operation. For the next two years dad was on a dozen ships in different operations. Dad ended the war on the SS Missouri in Tokyo harbor. And is standing behind Bull Halsey in the surrender photos.

isn't it funny, Japan who had such strong strict codes throughout their lives and society, that very same way of life, with such things as "honor" and "pride" and "cowardice" etc. absolutely screwed themselves, they could see no utility in compassion and decency (for example in the way they treated prisoners) and when the western forces found out what they were up to, coupled with the ironically cunning, sneaky attack on Pearl, sealed their fate absolutely. Strange how they knew that to defeat America AND her allies they would have to land the knockout punch which they actually didn't do. Yet somehow they thought they had and continued to fight, if it weren't for the atomic bombs that made them surrender, the allies would probably have had to utterly demolish main land Japan....so, in a weird way, if it weren't for the genius of men like Einstein and all the others so well encapsulated by that old photo at the Solvay conference in 1927, Japan wouldn't be what it is today.

I think invading the Alaskan island was one of the dumbest of Japan's action in WWII. They were too isolated and far too north to be used effectively to attack the US from. They captured a couple from which they could launch no attacks and were not able to resupply them. All resources Japan committed to Alaska were lost and could have been better expended elsewhere.
