It's hard for Americans, or anyone to imagine freedoms they haven't experienced. When a population loses freedoms over time they get used to it. Freedoms in the USA are under attack, TODAY.

    91% of Americans... wow...
Well - newsflash! In case you didn't know, although it might seem so to some people, Denmark is not a state within the US. Neither is it a major US holliday destination like you'd find in Mexico for instance. Denmark is a country, and the language is DANISH!
Of course we will make an effort to conduct business with foreigners in the workplace and abroad by being fairly well versed in English, and may of course also help you settle in and make your way around in English. We don't mind. That's perfectly okay. But if you MOVE here, YOU are the one having to fit in, and that means Danish, at whatever level you are capable of, is mandatory. You can't expect someone to constantly translate for you, have signs written in English or spot you as an American, although chances of that happening are fairly likely. If you come to stay, you learn and use understandable Danish. That is expected. And if you go for citizenship, required. At a fairly high level even. No different from what Danes experience in every other country, including the US. Is Danish a small language, not very useful outside of Denmark? Yes it is. Which is also why we are fairly protective of it.
As far as I know, Americans coined the phrase: "There's no such thing as free lunch." ...or at least are very fond of it. We are very well aware of this here in Denmark, so in stead of making insurance companies billionaires on health care, we ran that and other necessities through the public system and covered it by taxes in stead. That way we don't have to pay some tycoon every time someone needs to go to the ER or other. Though dental is still a problem, and is not covered. But schools though. And all the way through U. There are naturally other private options, but nowhere near to the extent in the US.

Fake News. That what it is. I'm Greenlander and what from I know. I would prefer living in Denmark than living in the USA. Denmark is a peaceful country. And which takes care of all its citizens. Even the homeless are taken care of. Everyone has the right to help from the municipality and the state. And everyone has the right to medical care. Denmark has much less criminals and homicides compared to the USA. Denmark is a fantastic welfare society. Tax money goes to welfare and less to the military budget. In the USA. As the only one in the world. You have to pay for everything yourself by yourself. Even for welfare. Unlike in Denmark. Where all citizens help each other by paying their tax. And Denmark take care of their soldiers. They give them medical care and give them compensation and pay their retirement if need (PTSD and handicap). So they can have a life after a war. Not like USA. Where they left their soldiers to themself. When they have done their duty!

I'm from Brazil 🇧🇷 and here, in addition to the very high taxes on local consumption (you pay 40% more than the value of the good) and purchases abroad (85 to 92% of the real value), healthcare is also public, but due to corruption and poor management (a judge in a local city earns 45 to 52 times the minimum wage, as does a politician), those who can afford it resort to private health plans. And private plans here are accused of killing people to increase profits (see COVID and Prevent Senior). So, it's good that it worked out in Denmark. 😎 🇩🇰

Danish value norms and culture are truly different from the American ones, and therefore, misunderstandings and frustrations often arise for the poor American coming from a country that emphasizes form over content. This video reflects misunderstandings that lead to untruths about Denmark. It's not easy to move to another country and understand the background of its culture. The grass is always greener, and many people from freer countries with more opportunities to turn ideas into action get a culture shock when they are faced with the price of all the privileges Denmark is known for. And videos such as this one are important so that people who wouldn't fit in don't end up wasting years of their life.

High taxes, but also guaranteed good pay, and free health care. So in America you can buy cheaper McDonalds while you pass homeless people on the street who cannot afford basic medicine. People living in a van working 2 minimum wage jobs in USA. Of course there is racism in Denmark like everywhere in the world. Denmark has long been a very homogenous place, which has changed a lot the last decades, but you don´t hear about teenage boys being gunned down by police for being black. School shootings. You have two parties, that is not freedom. Yes Danes have an unhealthy drinking culture, but also a culture of doing sports and other stuff in organized communities, for everyone to join, so join a sports team, winter bathing, board game club or something else instetad of the pub. We speak Danish in Denmark not only with our loved ones. If I had a wife from another country I would not care if we spoke Danish or English. We know we are a small country, so we need to learn English and accept it being spoken in public, and university lectures are often in English. Where I am a bit triggered is when I go to a restaurant in Denmark, even in the suburbs of Copenhagen and I can not order in Danish, because the staff only speaks English. I think there’s some confusion between a society’s liking for order and rules on one hand and freedom on the other. But really they are not mutually exclusive. So possibly the Scandinavians generally have this, likewise the German speaking nations plus Holland. But a German ( for example) will naturally comply with all sorts of rules that are imposed upon him by local government or his landlord or just through social convention. But for all that Germans are really a free people. What counts anywhere is that you can speak your mind, complain, navigate your way through life and vote out the government if you don’t like it. It’s also about being free to impose rules that are sensibly arrived at. Or not if your society prefers liberties to rules. Whatever. And besides most countries have rules that seem odd to outsiders and completely normal to the locals. As for the danish drinking tendency I think I could go along with that!

As a Danish National there has ben living aboard, can i not agree more with your video. Denmark i one of the most expensive countries to live in and our Taxes are the highest in the world the income tax is 48% the sales taxes is 25% the are we having designated taxes on fuel, energy , carbon, tobacco, alcohol and sugar as well as vehicle registration and 100% tax on a new vehicle. How ever they say the taxes pays the welfare state then you are not getting what you are paying for if you need non critical surgery then expect to wait 12 - 24 months the schools and education institutions sucks. and has nothing to do with the real world. the Rural regions is decaying with Abonded Houses and DE maintained Roads. When it coms to the culture then you are right my dad did end up as a alcoholic and lost his life to it. Yes the culture is some what closed to foreigners, don't expect small talk most Danes don't like to talk to strangers. if you get a job here your colleagues might be nice at work but it is unlikely they will ever socialise after work. A personally experience i got was when on a agricultural exchange program in Australia. We was a group of 15 Danes traveling together to Australia the first few nights we where staying at a hostel , there was us danes, a large group of swish and one guy from Canada. Close by there was a pub and of course we was going there in the evening for a few drinks us guys was of course socializing but the Canadian was walking around alone i did invite him to join but a few of the other guys blow up and almost drew him out of the pub with the comments that they did not want any non Danish at there table.
At that moment i lost all respect for my fellow county men.
When it comes to the common Danish view on rest of the world then it got it's roots in some thing called Jante loven. it is some attitude there states that you should stay at the step you are born in to and should not try to improve life or think you are anything and if you got success then you are better not talk about it. I have seen it with in my own family, i got a uncle there managed to build up a success full business and did make good money however he did have to put up with a lot of back staping the talking point is still that he must be a huge asshole to make that kind of money and he doesn't deserve it.
When it comes to the view on the US the then it is a horrible country where people are walking around and shooting hit other and hospitals are denying dyeing people treatment if they cant pay, which is not true at all.
When it comes to the Danish view on freedom then they believe that welfare is freedom. Denmark got 780000 Laws on the books every aspect of life in Denmark is regulated and specially private businesses and Farmers are spending huge amount of time and money dealing with Bureaucracy and red tape.
Denmark is not free or democratic it got reprehensive Democracy which is more like a moderate dictatorship. I don't understand anybody want to move here. I'm leaving and so are half of my colleagues ones the war in Ukraine is ended and yes my Ukrainian colleagues does fell like outsides despite some of them has ben here for a decade.

sorry but this video is pure clickbait and very stupid. The only true thing in this video is the the weather and alkohol stuff... the rest is not true. The taxes are high, but i have more money than an American in my position, because i dont pay for school for my kids and we get paid to attend college and other higher educations. And that expensive cancer treatment is free in Denmark, like everything else what demands healthcare. When i broke my leg when i was a teenager i was rushed to the hospital, free of charge in a ambulance and was getting help before my parents even got home from work. I didnt need and insurance or ask how much it would cost. I know an american who paid 10.000 dollars to get an x-ray, but in Denmark you dont get ruined for that kind of stuf.
Maternity leave is 9 month and it is PAID MATERNITY LEAVE, shared between the parents. and 6 weeks of vacation for all... its the law :)
Cars are much more expensive in Denmark and we just paid for a Ford Mustang March e, 2/3 paid up front from money we saved up last year and the rest was a loan we are going to pay of over 3 years... And im a Garbage collector...

Yes, von Sholten "freed" the slaves - all by himself and, landed in prison in DK for doing so... The slaves were still slaves
There may be a reason the person remembered for ending the trade is William Wilberforce, right!?
On the 31st March 1917, Denmark officially sold the Virgin Islands to the U. S. and, they sold the people Kimalexschwarctz - in 1917!?!?,ALL the slave traders were compensated hence, they must have the money to pay for the cases which they will lose 100% as, this sale from 1917 will in a court today 2024, be judged as the very last Trans Atlantic Slave Trade committed on planet Earth - between DK and the U. Next... the Danish state lied to everyone about this deal, as they still lie about everything... Denmark have never let go of all (100%) privileges on these islands!! If you own 100% of all privileges of a place, you own the place and thereby, also pedo-island (Jeffrey Epstein) and my question to Denmark now (still): Exactly which Danish "lawyers" are responsible for the sale of Little St. James??
I am 99% sure who that is but, need an answer from the little slave- trader who never stopped!? We have some "interesting" court cases to go through...
One of the most "interesting" facts are, the very same Danish families seem to have "run" our little place through generations and worst - still do!! The slave traders became the nazi's - the nazi's who still get paid by Denmark, - in their luxery homes in South America...
