Shiznuts when I was working for a reseller it was like 500€ for a 6 month warranty on a 355, 700€ a year for a 575. A Ferrari approved warranty is 2000€ a year so it is about that. And as I say a 3-4000 pound bill for a modena that did 13000km since last service isn’t that expensive

The cynic in me also wonders if AV Engineering also knew some of these faults were present before they sold the car, told the buyer to take out the warranty so they could then fix these problems after selling the car without spending AVE money making it ready for sale while appearing a hero to the buyer for recommending a warranty package.

imo, these cars are not worth the hassle, you'll be frightened to drive a car when you see the engine light turned on or you hear some rattling. Also, no labor cost were mentioned, the bill is easily over 5k!! And the insurance is not cheap either (no price was mentioned)

A Ford GT is not a Ferrari. Sure its faster than a 360.... looks better than a 360, and if nicer to drive than a 360, but is not got the badge so the insurance is not going to be as high. If you snap a rod in the GT you get a mustang rod and your off and running. If you snap a rod in a Ferrari, it would not only cost 30k to fix it, it might just spontaneously catch on fire while its in the shop. Unless you are buying brand new... only an idiot would by a Ferrari unless its a show item that you will never drive.

My late father was a motor engineer. He had a simple mantra..."If you cannot afford to buy it new, you may struggle to run it second hand.."...Cars like this are so delicate as to be real money pits.
And the problem is cars are getting more and more complex so will be even more expensive to maintain in later life.

I’ve found that both Ferrari & Porsche run the winter & summer clinics and they quote you on getting the car back to as new. I have found, luckily, a specialist who does both and me & my friend have literally saved many thousands of pounds by using Steve Bull specialist cars in Devizes. Uses all the same parts and gives the same warranty.
I remember, when younger, being told that if you could afford a used Jag then afford a new one but I never understood what it meant for my callow youth mind. It’s great to have a great Indy garage do your work for you. What was quoted, by Porsche was 16k but with the help of enthusiasts, cost me 5K

An aftermarket warranty on an older car or pre-owned exotic is worth it’s weight in gold. I have always found that the repair shops go above and beyond to fix every single niggle when the warranty company is paying. Without a warranty, most shops will be a bit more conservative with repairs.

This is a great video on the reality of Ferrari ownership. Who would have thought such an expensive car could be engineered so poorly? It is as if some hobbyist was assembling them in his backyard, after giving zero thought to maintainability - thus requiring people like AV Engineering, with advanced knowledge and skill, just to keep the car safe and functional. Ferrari just comes off as a clown show. The cars are beautiful in their own right, but they might as well be constructed from granulated sugar.

Performance car dealers sell so few cars they have made always made their income not from selling the actual cars but on the maintenance/servicing costs. As to the fragile nature, the 288 GTO had a set of metal pipes feeding off the turbos that were linked to the engine management system. I was at a track day very soon after they were launched and the pipes were bursting at track speed. Luckily as it was at Donington Park the nearby local dealer, Graypaul, had a van shuttle service running all day, between the dealership and the circuit bringing replacement copper pipes with more robust brazed connectors. That was in the days when the Bishops ran Graypaul, I'm not sure Sytner would give the same service today...

    • @G029er
      @G029er 5 ปีที่แล้ว

They are engineered with performance and weight in mind under the guise of being "racing spec." Parts in racing cars are replaced after every race so longevity is a moot point. If they wanted to source more reliable parts, they could. Owners don't seem to care.

Very important to use the aircon weekly, even during winter, with the heater on to keep the seals lubricated.
Even more important to have an excellent independent Ferrari specialist (not a dealership) that knows the car inside & out such as yours.

I think those issues already existed. That would be the hard push for the warranty. I'm guessing since it's a Ferrari is why things like the air con, and labor on other things were covered. Usually, those aftermarket warranties don't cover shit and are essentially a scam. They get you to fork out the cash for the warranty, something mechanical fails on the car, the warranty company finds a reason not to cover it, or they cover it after you pay your deductible ( which is usually 75 to 80% the total cost for the work.) and you still pay out of pocket.

I drive a Toyota Aygo... 10000 Euro …. 8 years old… never had this type of discussions with my mechanic… I don't think I'm jealous :) With just the sound on, I would swear this discussion is taking place in a Lada garage :)

I'm currently looking into 360 ownership and found this video very helpful, enlightening and valuable as to what questions can be asked and checked during a pre purchase inspection. I know that Aldous also has an excellent reputation and is one of the best and most honest indy specialists in the UK. After so much good, open and honest information here about the job list and prices as well as mentioning the warranty so many times, especially as the word 'warranty' forms part of the title for gods sake, then it just makes no sense to mask the cost of the warranty. This would be so useful for me to understand as I look at getting into a 360. For that reason I have not hit the 'like' button.

i would imagine that garage charges around 95 pounds per hour plus 20% VAT (Tax). If you want a Ferrari for less than 100k then go for a classic 1970s 308, they don't have a computer or electronics, the mechanicals are simple and easy to maintain and compared to modern Ferraris you can do most servicing and belt changes and water pump replacement with the engine in the car. I've owned a 308 for more than 20 years and I bought it when you could buy them for 19k pounds, my car is worth around 85k now, I am not wealthy and I couldn't afford to buy it at todays prices but I keep it on the road by doing the basics myself, engine oil, filters and plugs is easy job in the driveway, and I use a non specialist small local garage who charge 40 pounds per hour for labour and I source the parts myself. Also when you mention the F word many suppliers and workshops add on a few zeros to their quotes, I'll give you an example from my own experience, my rear brake callipers needed rebuilt, the cheapest quote I was getting from companies in England to rebuild rear callipers on a Ferrari 308 was 600 plus tax and the priciest quote was well over one thousand pounds, in the end my local mechanic in Scotland said he would send them to the same place in Glasgow that he sent callipers from bog standard saloon cars., the rebuild shop phoned to say that the seals and pistons were all easily available standard ATE branded parts and that rebuilding them would be easy....and cheap, 110 pounds per side.....thats around one thousand less than if I had sent the to a so called specialist near London. As I said, the F word quite often adds a premium for no particular reason is what I have learned.

I watch all your vids Sam and wondered whether this was going to be as good as some of your others, but this was really informative. Simple effective explanation from the mechanic (Alders? I don't know how to spell his name smh lol) on what each part does and why it was bad if one of them had an issue. Learnt alot watching this and am starting to see why to go to AV for this kind of thing. These guys know there stuff! Would've been nice to know what the total figure was and how much the warranty covered, seems like most of it was covered by the policy which is a good thing.

I'd like to see a video of you driving it to see if you notice some of the repairs done, like how the transmission engages now, see how good the a/c is and if you notice a difference in steering from the ball joints being replaced
