    The GX85 does have electronic image stabilization and it works very well.

    One thing to add is that you can't charge the G85 via usb, unlike the GX85. This is a big con for me, since I travel and I do not want to have to carry multiple batteries. I prefer to carry one power bank that I can use for my phone, laptop, and camera.

    • @MaximC
      @MaximC 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't there a charger one could buy that will charges G85's battery from a powerbank? I mean, batteries charge from 5 volts anyway, so maybe charging through wall socket is not the only option available for G85.

    Hi, I just bought the GX85 about a week ago, and I love it! I was using a point and shoot for TH-cam for about a year, and wanted something better. I researched cameras, and found this video. I was able to find a good deal, so I had to buy it. Thanks for your help!

      There are a lot of people that produce low quality content. That produce poor comparison videos, etc. You don't seem one of them.

    "the lower the megapixels means the better it is in low light, that's why you'll find something like the sony A7s with 12 megapixel full frame sensor. the less mega pixels you have, the bigger those megapixels can be and the more light that they can grab." this is all i heard and i said to myself my canon 5D classic is 12 megapixels ( no regrets )

    Apart from in-body stabilization system, GX800 is the best, hands down. It's small body size allows you to take it anywere inside a jacket pocket.

      Both the G85 and GX85 have unlimited recording time, only dependent on card space and battery charge. The European versions I believe have the 29 minute limit.

    on gx80 you can flip flash with your finger and point it to the ceiling, for flash photos it's very handy to do bounced light. on g80 flash is stuck in front looking position. kinda sucks..

    Tempted to move from the GX85 to the GX850 for that extra portability and selfie screen. Has anyone else done the same? How did you find the move?

    • @bitsandblocks7826

      I have both both and love them both but I'd probably not want GX850 as my only camera. While the GX850 is very small it's still not a pocket camera. It will fit in a large jacket pocket but not jeans pocket even with the 14mm f2.5 which is about as small as it gets. The missing stabilisation for GX850 you would likely miss especially for low light photography or video. I may sell my GX850 as i grab for the GX85 more often and take it with a couple of small primes. It will also fit in a large jacket pocket you just notice it in there a lot more than you would the GX850. Hope this helps.

    Can't wait 'till you review the GH5. Regarding the mic input for the G85, do you know if it's possible to mix the internal camera microphone with an external microphone, eg. internal for ambience, and external lav for voice? Or if not, what adapter would you recommend to mix two mic inputs?

    • @JustinReves
      @JustinReves  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it's not possible to do both. I'd grab a Zoom H1 and use that for your second audio source. You can mix it in later in post.

  • @NetvoTV

    If only comparing the body shape and size, should I get G85 or GX8 or GX85? I will wait for successor of each one too
    Does GH5 and G9 same size as G85? Which is more easy to carry and for everyday camera yet still cover all then possible camera can do(travel, street, video, and so on)
    Does rangefinder style(top flap and EVF on left side) is more easy to carry than the DSLR style mirrorless like G85?

    come across a great mirror less v dslr war v log and summed it up well size and weight Mirrorless usually 200 to 400 grams lighter than dslr on average but usually much worse battery life the exception is the gh5 which has great battery life a headphone jack some twerky things but dslr weight Mirroeless get your Batterys better!Having used thr G85 for video am loving the stills very clear ok with batteries hove you used battery grip much and is it heavy worth the weight?

    What are your thoughts on the G85 vs the GX8?

    • @JustinReves
      @JustinReves  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G85 does everything the GX8 does other than it has a few less megapixels, but you get the newer Dual IS 2 plus a few more function buttons. GX8 is maybe a little more stylish. Either is going to be great. Both splash/dustproof with swivelling screens and the same video modes. Here in Canada, they don't sell the GX8 anymore which is why I didn't include it. I think they've discontinued it because it was 50% more than the G85 a little while back and that didn't make sense.

  • @ilanhoward
    @ilanhoward 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Low light performance if a function of total light which is a function of the sensor size and not the pixel density.

    • @JustinReves
      @JustinReves  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just went digging through a few different articles. You're right in that overall sensor size definitely has the biggest impact, but at higher ISO, having smaller pixels does produce more noise. However, you'd be better having a bigger sensor with more megapixels than having a smaller sensor with less pixels. But for pushing ISO, you do want to have smaller pixels if you don't need the extra resolution. I'm going to pin this comment to the top so people can see it! Thanks for clarifying.

    • @andreika6681
      @andreika6681 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      technology can compensate it sometimes, e.g. a 2018 16Mpix BSI aps-c may do better in LL than 24mpix 2015 ff sensor...

    Great video ! I'm think your video convinced me to go with G85 because of : weather scealed, video stabilizer and 4/3 sensor. Do you have in mind any other sub-1000£ mirrorless cameras that might suit these needs ? I've been wandering a lot these day but was focused on Lumix products, what are you thoughts about this ? I'm a completly beginner in such cameras but willing to post-prod pictures and videos a lot :)

    • @JustinReves
      @JustinReves  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Squirkiz Olympus definitely makes some good cameras too but I'd say they're a bit more photo focused whereas Lumix is better with video. Sony is primarily what I use now but there's definitely compromises and they're expensive. I'd absolutely recommend the G85 for photos and videos. It's a workhorse. Will last you a long time as a beginner.

    Hey Justin! I was just wondering if you could make a video on how the Panasonic g85's touch-to-focus is and if it is better than the autofocus? I really enjoy your content, and I have been looking at the g85 for months but the focus on it makes me weary, so I would really love your advice!

      Schmidt's Creek Check out a video by Robert John 'Cuba' and be blown away by how good the g85 is in the hands of someone who knows what he is doing. Justin does an incredible job on the technical side of gear and how to do videos, but you have to go out and film with the gear you eventually buy. I'm certainly interested in the g85, because it fits my budget. If I can get decent results with it remains to be seen? What I will never do is ask what settings others are using, trial and error, film edit, over and over and hopefully get a result!

    I feel like a dick for saying it but, it would've been nice to see some comparison footage. I know you say they're pretty much identical but there's gotta be an edge in one of these units. Best DR, better low light, better color reproduction, video recording modes available in each body like slow motion.. feel me?

    • @JustinReves
      @JustinReves  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      JustInCase HD You’re not going to see any difference other than stabilization in the two vs the GX850. The internals are virtually identical. Some might shoot photos at a slightly faster clip because of the processing but video quality and colours and dynamic range are the same in video. I doubt I could spot the difference between the G7 and the G85 and those actually have different sensors but their footage is so close. I never noticed any difference when I switched.

    how true is it that g85 is already discontinued? I can't find any here in the Philippines.. or if you will be able to find one.. it's already more than 100% (almost 2x) the price of it last 2 months ago..

    • @JustinReves

      It's not discontinued here in North America so I'm not sure what's going on there! G7 was kinda temporarily discontinued as they were figuring out what to do with it but it's back as a budget offering for now.
