I’m Australian but my family were Courtenay’s so this is our ancestral family home. My paternal great grandmother was a Kemp. We are descended from the Plantagenets who ruled Britain for 400 years. I am desperately hoping to visit there in July next year. I feel Devon in my soul and dream of touching Devon soil for myself before I die. Probably sounds soppy but I dream of it some nights, I just wish that I had discovered this family when I was younger and healthier. My father found out too late to ever be able to see it for himself so I want to do it for him also. He visited the UK many times never knowing of our history.

Courtney, the Irish part of the name.
The Courtenay name in Devon goes well back in History. It was part of the War of the Roses. They fought on Henry's side, had titles and lands taken by the parliamentarian faction in the late 1400s.
A very large history of the name, started in 1110 in Village Courtenay France.
    Proud to be a Courtney.

What wonderful video! I don't know why more people have not watched it. I am descended from Elizabeth Courtenay who married William Strode. Their son, Rev. Sampson Strode, was born in Plympton about 1552.

Im Australian and my great grandfather x 13 was Sir William 2 of Devon Born 1477 which makes Marchioness Gertrude Courtenay my 12th great grandmother, and all the rest that goes along with that family wise, only found this out recently its pretty cool as I have always loved the Tudor Dynasty 🖤

My great great grandmother was born in Powdeham in1799, Anne Maria Rogers, the daughter of Lady's personal maid, and I would love to know her maiden name, she married John William Rudd who died young she had three sons and a daughter. John Rogers, Thomas, Eliza and William, she died in Exeter, I never knew why being a very modest person
when she died it was announced twice in Exeter Cathedral.
