That Tax deduction is sooo annoying. Lol. I can totally relate. In my own case, I had to go to our graduate secretary to explain why my money reduced. Your girl has calculated all her money in naira. And Alas! Taxes happened. Thanks for explaining this.
It's so refreshing to hear from you nwanne, I'm planning to go for my PhD in the US as soon as I take the GRE and finish a research paper. I don't have a Masters degree but I learnt I can get a PhD without one. My undergraduate degree is strong and I've had 6 years of progressive work experience here in Nigeria. I also plan doing teaching assistantship when I get over there.
The cover banner reminded me of one of Nigeria's popular song; "Too much money... Problem na to spend it" Shocker; I get $500 per month, and then I pay $2 state tax or so. It's funny because all the money they give us, they will find a way to get it back into the system again. Than you for sharing it all.
Tax deduction , plus Bills . House rent , electricity , water , trash , transportation , food etc ! It sounds like you are left with nothing Humm ! Am glad you found a second job though , blessings
Haha 😂 yes, you did! Thank you for the support. Last year, I did a summer job (Teaching Assistant for a summer camp) just for about 2weeks. Also, focused on self development, GRE prep and started my TH-cam channel. This year, I will be doing a lot of my Master’s research, self development, prep for PhD applications and create more TH-cam videos by the grace of God.
Hey Aladi, i have a question. I have a graduate assistantship from my university which promises to pay 2,500 USD every month for the entire 4 years of my PhD program. Will i still need to provide personal bank statements at the embassy when I go for my visa application or does the graduate assistantship letter from the school cover proof of funding and hence,no need for personal bank statements?
Hey, To answer your question better, can you answer the following question: Does the assistantship include tuition waiver or you still have to pay tuition by yourself?
Hi Aladi, thank you for the video. I was offered graduate teaching assistanship as well and will apply for my F1 visa soon. My question is, did you show proof of funding in addition to the graduate assistanship funding on you I-20? My department covers all expenses mentioned on my I-20 and I’m concerned if I still should show proof of funding as extra or not…
@@favourokunbi1079 Hi, I went to my visa interview last year and they didn't ask anything else from me. The officer only looked at my I-20 and that was it. But of course, this was my experience
@@notyouregulardrama thank you for this information. But did you have any money in the personal funds of your I-20 or it was only in the "funds from school/scholarship section that you had funds"?. . Secondly, Did you carry a statement of account with you to the embassy even though they didn't ask for it?
@@favourokunbi1079 It was only the funding my school provided me, and yes, I was prepared just in case. You never know what will be asked from you personally so it's best to have everything you might possibly need with you before going to your interview
@@notyouregulardrama thank you very much, but can I have like your interview transcripts or what questions the visa officer asked you so I can prepare?
Please did you file for tax returns because this taxes na gbakam ishi. I didn't know stipends were taxed oh, nawa. Kwesi is amazing for real, he watches my videos too
Yes, I did (2019 and 2020) but you know as an International Student you really don’t get back anything reasonable. What I got was in the range of $40 - $60. My dear, them dey tax everything. 😫
And yeah one thing that almost skippedmy mind. Aladi can you like make a video on like when you get the money the insurance, savings and you know how to go about with the money so you cannot go bankrupt because USA is a country where you'll not even like or dream about going bankrupt
Aladi I just saw your Facebook story of you playing basketball and I hope no basketball player sees you apart from me because he'll be forced to teach and apart from the tax deduction you'll also have a basketball training deduction 😂😂😂
Is it okay I make a video about it? I think that will be nice. Other students can benefit from it. Meanwhile, I talked a bit about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/tNwokE7FDIg/w-d-xo.html
if someone get's an assistantship for the first year does this mean he will get one for sure for the following years until he finishes the program ? or is it possible that first year you have one then next year you will be asked to finance your studies yourself ?
There’s no guarantee. It will depend on things like: how well the student carried out his/her duties in the previous semester, the student’s CGPA and available funding in the department etc.
many thanks for the answer .just one follow up question. does the non availability of fundings push students to drop out if they don't have another way to fund their studies .especially to us africans tuition fees in the us are not afordable for almost evrybody
Olayinka Oyegbemi Wow, $12,000 that is about #4.6 million, hear in Nigeria my Graduate assistant pay for 9 months is #1.1 million that is $2,891 more than 4 times more. Thank for sharing, Nigerian government don't value lecturers, if I have opportunity, I will just go abroad.
