Thank you for posting this particular performance. It was the first one I heard/owned of this great work, coupled with a similarly excellent one of The Four Temperaments (another terrific ballet score, this one for George Balanchine). James DePreist was an underrated (and underrecorded) conductor, and this fine disc is a reminder of his talent.
I should say: the only 20th century academic Composer (with completely modern musical language, I mean) that is close to 100% digestible for the simple profan ears😊 (only maybe also Ginastera, but not so far). Bartok is interesting too, but not all of his opus are easily digestible, Shostakovitch is sometimes rather depressing, Prokofiev sometimes too complexed, Stravinsky too exotic, Penderecky too scholastic and all till Boulez and Ligety's style are too SCARYYYY😂
The third movement was the theme intro music to Afternoon Concert on KUOM years ago when learned adults programmed the station. This version is rather languid though.
The wondrous and powerful 3rd movement was the theme of the afternoon concert on KUOM years ago when adults ran the radio station. I just found out that it was a ballet.

You only post magnificent works. Thank you!

Can't live without my Hindemith!
