  • Division, my 3-pound Beetleweight Combat Robot with an oversized vertical spinner, has just competed at the most recent Norwalk Havoc tournament. Norwalk Havoc has always had a number of competitive robots, but this time was exceptional - 51 robots in all from all across the country came to compete, all following the local COVID guidelines which required getting a negative test before coming in from out of state or staying under 24 hours. The pits were fully outdoors due to the pandemic with the bear minimum number of people inside by the arena at a time, and masks were worn at all times.
    Norwalk Havoc has an unbelievable quality livestream for the entire event on TH-cam, and I highly recommend you all subscribe to their TH-cam channel, linked down below. Their view counts are what help them keep the event completely free to enter, so you’ll be doing all of us a favor by subscribing and watching their videos! The full 12 hour stream is up but in the coming weeks every single fight will be uploaded one by one, so subscribe there to relive each match as they happened without needing to sift through all the breaks in between.

    I am intrigued at the upgrades you are planning with division, especially the motor upgrade as previously you were a big proponent of the higher kv motor you were using because it was really power dense. I can’t wait to hear the explanation, keep up the great videos!

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You raise a good point. Both the Propdrive 2836 3000kv and the new motor are the highest KV available in the given size of the motor. I'm moving to a larger, heavier motor with lower KV but with 4S it will be at nearly the same speed, and with 33% more voltage the power/weight is about the same. There are also a number of limiting physical characteristics of the 2836 which are no longer an issue for the larger motor: the bearings and shaft are bigger to take larger loads, and the shaft will no longer need to be a custom hack job which I fear may be a contributor to the motor bearing failure.

    I‘ve started watching 3lbs fights since you recommended it to me and it’s been a blast! For now I‘m watching some Tutorials to take my first steps to build a robot. Could it be that Beetle weight is a bit easier for newcomers than ant weight? I think that going this small is more difficult because you got less weight to play with. Or am I wrong here?
    Either way, this is so entertaining and fascinating! I kinda like it more than BattleBots because you get to see so many different Robots :)

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great to hear! I think what weight class is easier kinda depends on your goals, tools, and how competitive you are. It's very difficult to win within the beetle class at many tournaments with a fully 3D printed robot but in ants that's a lot less difficult. That can make antweights a lot cheaper to make a competitive robot. However the component choices with ants can also sometimes be more expensive as there aren't so many options out there besides N20 motors and Fingertech's products. Beetles are definitely more forgiving regarding weight though! Which can be a hugely nice thing when you are building by hand without the aid of CAD tools.

    • @Nanomaroni
      @Nanomaroni 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustCuzRobotics I see, thank you very much for your answer!
      Until now I haven’t really thought of using a 3D Printer. I thought I can do it with cutting, sawing, grinding etc...
      But I think I will try to build any Robot first, regardless of weight class, so I can do my first steps.
      I also don’t have much tools at home, so I need to freestyle it anyways.
      I also think as time moves on and I finally know a bit about building, it would be better to invest in good tools. But before that, I‘ll try it with what I have.

    This is the bot that got me into beetle weights... right now. Although not a beetle weight I especially like Brett the Brick
    It's always great when someone tells you this is their first time seeing something than suggest advice, but have you thought about taking the "triangles" off the top of the back of your bot and moving them to the bottom to work as sort of a wheelie bar?

    • @JustCuzRobotics

    • @laa0fa502
      @laa0fa502 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustCuzRobotics ay I was on the right track! if you don't mind me asking about what the cost was I'd love to know as I can see myself building a bot already. I know the price varies a lot but you have a very unique and complete design so its a better reference than a kit bot

    • @JustCuzRobotics
      @JustCuzRobotics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've definitely invested over $1200 so far in this bot but that is for many many iterations and changes over a year or so. If I were to build it as is now from scratch, it maybe would be closer to $500 or so for enough parts to build one robot and some spares, with send cut send for flat parts and all the electronics. However the uprights were done with CNC machining and that would be very pricy to do if you had to outsource it. I saved a lot of money doing my own machining, 3D printing and bending etc.
      I think a simpler and more cheaply manufacturable design could definitely be doable for less than $500 but it really depends on the design and what manufacturing you have available
