  • Scientists who piece together our past can do so through the rare fossil or artifact, or they can go to one convenient location: a hyrax latrine.

    New resource for Africa: hyrax guano. Wars were fought over seabird guano off the coast of Peru before the Haber Process allowed the cheap (but extremely energy intensive) manufacture of chemical fertilizer. Today, we are running out of Phosphate Rock (which at least in FL is apatatite--fosilized shark teeth). Manure rises again!

    Hey can you make one on why we use pillows, how we came to use them, etc. I personally hate them, I can't use pillows as they make my neck hurt.

    • @terryenby2304
      @terryenby2304 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lifeincolour09 i found one (in the U.K.) made by silent night designed for anti-snoring that really works well for my neck :) most are too high and hurt!
      This one has like a slight edge support but is lower in the middle to open the airway on your back, but support your neck if you are on your side. I’m sure there must be other brands that do similar shapes. Or you could look up the Japanese head supports that are traditionally used with futons? I am not sure what they are called (sorry!) but they may be better?

    • @lyreparadox
      @lyreparadox 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too! I can't stand using pillows 90% of the time. I only like using one when I'm camping because the ground is hard enough that I actually need the added support of a pillow - where normally I don't because I sink into the mattress. I'm also a front/side sleeper, so that probably doesn't help.

      Dassies (what we call them in South Africa), are permanently grumpy / disapproving looking, I call them grumpy bunnies. I live just around the corner from where the fynbos picture was taken and there are some dassie colonies in the coastal fynbos in the area. If you sit quietly near them they will climb out onto the rocks and just sit there and stare at you with this intense look of disapproval, which is adorable. I haven't seen anything like what is described here with their middens though, usually it's just a small patch of little pellet droppings
