  • Learn how to adjust the valves on your gas scooter or moped. Jason from Bintelli Scooters takes you through an in depth, step by step video of how to complete a valve adjustment. Visit us at www.BintelliScooters.com.
    No matter what brand of scooter or moped you have, the basic principles of valve adjustments is overall the same. This is a very in depth video that if you follow completely, you should be able to use to then properly perform a valve adjustment on your Chinese scooter or Chinese moped, no matter if it has a 49cc or 150cc engine size. We recommend that all scooters, mopeds, and motorcycles have a valve adjustment completed after its initial 500 mile break in period.

      I'm a retired auto mechanic I hope the information I give you will help you it is so very important on scooters to change your oil and to use the correct weight of oil have your valves adjusted at 500 miles I change your oil at 500 Miles when you get your scooter I also change differential oil at 500 miles that one thousand miles I changed my oil and I also changed my differential oil because the differential when is swearing-in just like a motor you will have break in particles and the differential also I strongly suggest change your oil at 1000 miles truthfully it never hurts to change your oil every 500 miles the cleaner you can keep your motor the longer it will last I would also change my differential oil every thousand miles me personally because a scooter does not have the oil filter like a car and scooters are droven at top speed I change my oil at 500 miles and I change my differential oil every thousand miles this way my scooter won't last a long time also you need to check your brake fluid if you have a master cylinder on your scooter and I suggest bleeding the master cylinder once a year to get all all of the old brake fluid I hope this information will help you and have a wonderful day

      Warren, please do not continue driving it! The fact that your engine hasn't completely failed is lucky to say the least. By now you should have already had two oil changes and a valve adjustment. Your engine probably is damaged from the lack of proper maintenance which is why it is turning off. Please consult your warranty and user manual for proper maintenance intervals.

      You ended up buying a metric set of feeler gauges but some feeler gauges have both ASE and Metric on the feeler gauge hope this helps you I'm a retired mechanic I suggest having a trained professional to your valve adjustment any vehicle it is so very easy to adjust the valve the way you do not have enough clearance if you do not have enough clearance you will scar the cam on your scooter or vehicle I strongly suggest you have a trained professional not a neighbor down the street but a trained professional to adjust your valves on your scooter or vehicle help my information has helped you

      @BintelliHQ  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Marc U Using the timing mark on the engine casing as a guide, rotate the motor until the mark on the stator lines up with the mark on the engine casing. That ensures you are at top dead center. Thanks!

      When the Piston comes down then it will come back up and create compression if you stick your finger over the spark plug hole you will feel air pressure wanting to come out of the cylinder through the spark plug hole also on one side of the plate on the side of the scooter you will find markings to show you where top dead center is on the crankshaft and there will be markings on the camshaft also when both valves are completely closed that is the compression stroke I hope this helps you and have a wonderful day

      Put a zip tie or plastic straw in the spark plug hole and feel the piston hit TDC as you twist the fan

    My 50cc scooter use to do 45mph now struggles to get to 30mph.. everything on the scooters been checked and replaced except the valves it has 4400 miles on it and a Valve Adjustments never been done to it.. Could this cause a significant drop in Top Speed like 15mph?
    And side note there is a loud ticking/tapping coming from the valve cover that wasn't there before..

      if your exhaust valve is open to far a lot of your compression will leak out. and if its to tight it will make back presser and decrees you power. makes your eng. fight it self.

      Remember that feeler gauge is in milameters not inches .if u do this and it dont run or run right check and be sure of gauges also be sure to spin motor a few times and re check adjustment before putting back together .do all work on cold motor only.

      Yes, there has to be complete release to allow valve spring to come up and close the valve. 3/4 of the cam rotation there should be a tiny gap.

    I'm a retired mechanic my suggestion is this adjustment is very critical a little too loose it will tap a little too tight it will starve a cam so my suggestion is take your scooter to a trained professional and have them adjust the valve I do not recommend a person who is not a professional mechanic to make this adjustment adjusting valves is a skill not everyone has the ability to adjust the valves properly the man in the video makes it look easy but trust me on this take your scooter to a trained technician at a shop not a neighbor don't take it and have this adjustment I'm down the street at your neighbor's house take it to a regular scooter shop to have this adjustment done properly also you need to let the scooter set overnight to let the motor cool off completely before this adjustment is to be done I've known a lot of people who watch videos and thought they could do this adjustment correctly and ended up messing up the camshaft on their vehicle I strongly suggest taking your scooter to a high quality scooter shop and have this done by a trained professional I hope this information has been helpful to you it is very easy to accidentally adjust the valve to lose or if you adjust the valves where tight it will scar up the cam of the scooter so please take your scooter to the shop and have a trained professional adjust the valves for you it's really worth the money to have it done by a trained professional

      I did it myself and was easy and came out great since the first time, what is that a "professional" mechanic do that you cannot do in a simple task like this? The fact is that with internet and youtube videos and lessons, people with some mechanical attitude (some people no matter how many lessons they take, they cannot hold a screwdriver in their hands) can do lots of jobs and repairs that before were prerogative only of mechanics, who often ripped off people since they didn't know what exactly the mechanic was (and wasn't) doing, I have been doing all sort of repairs on my scooter (variator replacemen, belt replacement, clutch replacement, valves adjustment, oil change, (both motor and gear), throttle cable replacement, tire replacement, Bendix replacement, and a bunch of other stuff, always using youtube videos (the good ones from "professional" mechanics), and always came out good, even did breaks replacement on my car, tie rods replacement, oxygen sensors replacement, some other engine parts replacement, and my biggest problem always was not having the right tool (as one of my old boss used to tell me "the tool makes the master"), that is why I started investing in tools (pawn shop are a great source of them), some of those repairs would have costed my a fortune before internet, because i would have had no clue how inexpensive and easy they were to do (that is why dishonest mechanics hate youtube and internet, because now people can educate themselves, checking what is the repair about and the cost of parts, and has become a lot more difficult for them to ripoff people). Going back to this episode, a prefessional mechanic would do exactly the same things the guy in this video did (maybe he is a professional mechanic), and, as appears, its really not that complicated to do, believe a guy that did a couple of times already.

    I stripped my spark plug so I had to replace my head. Was not familiar with top dead center. Took chain and camshaft off. Now cannot get it time to write. Some people say that he and the flywheel couldn't be an inch or two either way. I have it right on the mark now and a sprocket the big hole is out like top dead center should be. how can I be absolutely sure where top dead center on flywheel is. without going by T line. I heard a trick you put a straw inside spark plug hole and spin flywheel when straw is fully extended is that top dead center ? correct?. Please help. I can't adjust chain and everything. Just want to be sure I have it right this time

      I've never did valves on a scooter, but have many times when rebuilding car eng. same principle, take a straw , wooden dow. rod any thing the won't scar the top piston.. in sert in plug hole, rotate eng. and you can fill when the piston comes up and then stars to go down, as it start to go down try to bring it back up. when your at the point were its not going up or down that's top dead center..

      it is, but when breaking new metal expands from heating up and cooling down. the longer you have it the less you need to do it. but still cheek it after every 5000 miles. I had new Honda moter cycles 600 cc shadow's only adjusted once every 15000. no prob.
