Your content is great and you teach along the way! Anyone reading this should subscribe to Ed! He is knowledgeable and will teach you a great deal about what he is reviewing or discussing! Thanks so much for what you do! Keep up the great work!
I'm at least a generation older than you Ed, and I wanted to say I appreciate your approach to your work and not simply calling attention to 'personality' as I've seen with other popular vloggers. After a lot of research for several months, I have pretty well decided on the P4 Pro, and it's nice to see an 'unadorned' review. Looking forward to watching more of your videos and reviews.
I've had my Phantom 4 Pro Plus V2 for just a couple months but over 30 hours of flight time. It flies very smoothly especially in tripod mode. I bought it mainly for the quality of the still photos - shoot everything in RAW - and just love the drone. The display of the Plus controller is very easy to see in raw sunlight. So far, it's done everything I've asked of it with no weirdness...very pleased.
Some tips, calibrate your imu and compass to eliminate some of the positioning problems you seem to have in windy situations. Also disable vps when flying over water.
The point in getting the Pro+ is that the built in screen is more than twice as bright than any tablet or smartphone and his display won’t dim due to overheating, even in direct sun light. Also, no cables are required to work, it’s ready to go, much quicker to setup. Greetings
I have the Pro + V2.0 without the built in screen and agree with Ed that my I-Pad is better and I can use it on my obsolete P4 Standard. With sunlight issues I use the goggles to set up my shots. I fly missions for Drone Base and it is impossible to download the the Drone Deploy apps for 3D mapping onto the built in screen. There are several other commercial apps that pilots for DB need to use for their other types of missions. The built in screen version is mostly only good for hobby photography. That's just my experience and opinion YMMV.
@@droneshotsantoine1805 Maybe I stated it wrong I have the P4 Pro V2.0. It would be useless for me to have the built in screen because I couldn't use 3rd party software. It would be impossible to shoot a mapping mission for Drone Base. I like my I-Pad and my Goggles take care of sun problems when I'm setting up a shot. I fly LOS and hardly ever use FPV. Also with my I-Pad I can come here to YT and find info and email DB. The built in BS display is not only useless to me, it restricts what I can do. YMMV
I have the Glygh googles with HDMI module installed. These googles are awesome and they fill the requirement for LOS when using them as you can still visually see your drone while using the googles.
The reason your drone goes up above water is because the sensors on the bottom of it are seeing water. I recommend turning them off when flying low over water especially when you have object above.
I bought the pro V2 with the built in display for an extra $300.00 and LOVE IT, the brightest day is no match for this screen! I had always used my Ipad and always had to find a shady spot to go to in order to see the detail from the camera. I also love it that don’t have to carry extra wires and hook wires from the controller to the ipad and find the DJI app and log onto it or make sure it is charged. Everything is here in the case. For me, I’m so happy I spent the extra $300 for the built in screen!
i've watched a couple of yer videos now - and i must say I really appreciate it that you don't do the dumb jokes and skits so many of these other reviewers resort to. great job.
Absolutely spot on. I have the Pro+ because I didnt have an ipad to use but I have experienced everything you outlined here & can agree with you. I use the picture button quite a bit while recording video. I recommend it too! Thumbs up.
Never had that drifting problem with my P4P V2.0. Rock solid in winds up to 25 mph and I have flown in 30mph winds and it handled it. With the redundant IMUs and compass this bird is truest a PRO.
The brightness is by far the reason why you buy the pro + I mean I understand all the points you made about the ipad but you have to admit when you are in sunlight it can be damn near impossible to see the screen which is extremely annoying. I wish apple would release some newer ipads with 1000 nits or higher don't know why they haven't already to be honest people use ipads outside all the time. Good video by the way!
Nice video. I love having that mechanical shutter and adjustable aperture of the P4P! It really makes video filming more flexible. I just can't go back to a locked aperture.
Instead of care refresh look into getting insurance through State Farm. 60$ a year with a 0$ deductible. Plus it apparently covers if you lose the drone too
Nice! Thanks. I think the biggest benefit of the Care Refresh is that you are able to take advantage of prioritized repairs from DJI, but sometimes that can still take a while. What are your thoughts on that?
Mine arrived yesterday, just wish we had sun in the UK..... Yes I completely agree about the SD card slot - what were they thinking leaving it exposed like that?...
I think all drones will be affected by high winds... the Phantom (all Phantoms) have offcourse a 'box' shape, so more areas for wind to catch on... on the plus point, the gimbal of this thing is so good, you see a very stable image!! I've flown with 26 knots winds, and... if you see the footage back, you hardly know the drone is really fighting the wind.. I was surprised this Phantom can even fly then (ok getting the drone to fly and land is tricky). I also have troubles with the gimbal being 'off'.. I think it's mostly due to drag of the wind.. The image quality, low light, is awesome (also main reason why I bought it)
Man, thanks. The image quality on my Phantom 3 Pro (may she rest in peace) was so great to work with, I've been back and forth on a replacement. I wasn't as happy working with footage from the Mavic Pro 2. 4 Pro it is.
Ok ed I have a p4 and going to get the p4p. I need the added landing gear you like. Also I found some excellent strobes reviewed from a person. Think I will get the 3led ones from firehouse
Thx ED, for another well thought out video. I agree with everything you said about the P4P. including being stunned to see that the filters screw on to the camera. Lol. Thx for your hard work. I'll see you in the next one. Michael D
I don't know if you've figured it out yet but in this video you still have the packing rubber on the gimbal. You need to remove that and put it away for transporting the drone in case of repair.
Yeah I take that off when I fly the drone. I don't see any harm in keeping it on when I'm not flying it though, it's just an added protection for the gimbal when traveling.
Enjoyed your Pro mo and you were actually critical of some aspects of the Pro 4. Like others you seem to associate DJI with Apple tablets; are DJI and Apple in cahoots? Mike in Oz
Do you have vision positioning activated? It's in the advanced vision settings in go 4 app. Seem to remember it not being on by default. Mine is rock solid in heavy winds.
Mine too. l think something is "off" with Ed's P4. It needs something to be recalibrated/sensors cleaned, or something. These Phantoms are tight in wind when they're correctly calibrated.
Another great video! I have been trying to find a case for my iPad Mini 2 like your using so I don't have to take it out of it's case for my Phantom 3 Std. mount. Where did you find yours?
Can anyone please tell me if the Phantom 4 Pro has the ability to come back to the controller by using home lock in case I am moving during piloting,, ( like on the boat for example ) so meaning my starting and current position have changed.. thanks a lot
Can somebody explain to me how the Mechanical Shutter works on the P4A/P4P? I'm a photographer, I know all about Shutter Speeds, Aperture settings etc. But, I don't understand the concept of a 'Mechanical Shutter' on a video Camera. If you set the Phantom to 50fps, surely there's not a Mechanical Shutter opening/closing 50 times a second. How does it work?
To my understanding, the mechanical shutter is only utilized for stills in Picture Mode. You're right, the shutter wouldn't actually move in such a manner for video, it'd wear itself out. For stills, it would help with the rolling shutter effect as you are aware. This is based off my research...I haven't really tested the theory out.
So, when you take a photo you can actually hear the Shutter move? Also, as it's for photos only, would I still need to use ND Filters to slow down the Shutter in video?
Gonna get magic pro I like the design of the phantom 4 regular but I don’t wanna carry a giant backpack and take the drone out and carry that giant backpack back I’d rather throw it in a small bag and go
Found a typo. I believe the first one ever. "Spord mode". And I do like your mini review / opinion of the pro plus controller. Otherwise I really liked this video. Very well done.
well damn! lol thanks, thought I went through it all with a fine toothed comb. As for first typo ever, I have about 200 people commenting about my inaccurate unbox date in my Mavic Beginner's Guide lol: th-cam.com/users/edit?o=U&video_id=ia5o97OY4Rw

I've only used a Rebel XT (lol) in the past so I'm super excited about getting the GH5. Gonna hurt the wallet for a while but it should last for a really long time if their track record continues.

Do not buy the DJI Dro product, I have owned two of these Phantoms and they are prone to runaway issues and battery suddenly dies while in flight. This is an expensive loss and I am urging you to go to other manufacturers. Also, the updates will restrict your ability to fly and prevent the drone to take off in more areas after every update, not only on the Phantoms but also the mavics. Customer service is non existent when there is a problem. DJI does not stand by their product if their is a manufacture defect which causes the drone to crash. Others that I have talked to also complain with one or more of these issues that I have mentioned above. I have been have more and more problems with DJI for almost two years.

Yes VPS will get you in trouble over water.

Tom Dickinson you can use them if jou want to get close to objects with the drone but the obstacle avoidance dont work with the prop guards.
