Nice project. The moisture from the combustion process is actually condensing on the cold steel, until it warms beyond the dew point.

So, how did it go???
The flames aren't going through that little gap anymore, so I'm getting slightly more noticeable heat; however the hearth is staying warm for a lot longer after the fire dies.
After a compact wood stove with oven integrated i would never go back to this too much wasted heat out of the chimney
