  • In this Auratone 5C Super Sound Cube mini review I go over how to use them and how I've used them in the past. The Auratone is an extremely underestimated yet important piece of gear to have in your studio. There is no shortage of manufacturers of studio monitors in the market. However, few are as time tested and have had more recordings go Gold and Platinum as have the Super Sound Cubes. Not long ago I had the honor of working with former Motown Artist (Ex-Marvelette) Deloris Bowman on the release of her CD. Staple to the sonic success of that work was the Auratone. During mixing and tracking, when paired with a subwoofer I could not have asked for a better way to have referenced music that require attention being paid to detail in the mid range. Actually, when I finally got to mastering with engineer Duncan Stanbury at Frankford Wayne Mastering there was very little equalizing he had to do. I attribute that to the Auratone. There are plenty of monitors to choose from when selecting your secondary set. I would strongly suggest the Auratone 5C Super Sound cubes. If you enjoy my content please consider subscribing. Thanks for watching.

    It's always almost with teary eyes I listen to Professional talk about this ''sweet babies'' ... I was lucky to learn in a studio with these. My mentor's secret for CLEAN MIDS! Thanks a million for the review.

    Thanks for your review! I bought a pair after watching this as I knew Auratone had reissued them but wondered if they were faithful to what they were. Happy to say they sound fantastic at doing what they do. Sitting between a pair of them, some songs sound like vocals & guitars are coming from inside the front top of your forehead!

      These are the real deal. I lost my pair in the 90's. Never parting with these again. You'll have to pry them out of my dead fingers.

      Warren Henry haha yes. There’s many boutique monitors around these days that sound extremely good... but... only a handful that ‘translate’ consistently. Can’t reinvent the wheel!

      Warren Henry as you have used these for many years, can I ask do you ever make eq decisions on them, or do you use them strictly for judging volume levels, panning, & effects?

    Just picked up a single one on Reverb for $140. The late great French mixer/engineer/producer Phillip Zdar used a single Auratone as part of his monitor setup. He raved about the Auratones and even EQed bass guitar through them and he didn't care that it was only mono. He has a video series on Mix With The Masters and re-mixes a song by the band Pheonix called Liztomania which is one of the most incredible mixes I've ever heard. So, if one is good enough for him, it's good enough for me.

    Auratone is now selling these with an Auratone amplifier that was (supposedly) designed specifically for these monitors. The bundle costs $669 at Sweetwater right now but you can buy just the amp for $399.

    I use original 5Cs, Sony SMS 1p's and AR18s. I know, a bit OTT. My main nearfields are Miller and Kreisel MPS1611ps. I use the Auratones mainly for mixing. I use a Quad 306 to power them.

    I haven’t ever had a secondary set of monitors, but wanted to spring for a set for a long time.
    Currently I’ve been using Sonarworks, which emulates several monitor profiles after you’ve calibrated your system. It’s very effective, and I’d definitely recommend it.
    My current monitoring system is: Bag-End ELF M2 crossover > ADAM a7x tops, EV 7100 amp > Bag-End D18E sub

    Warren thanks for this vid ! I had the chance to use the original Auratones in a 32 trk commercial studio back in the 80's after time went on i realized the important tool they actually were. While control room speakers are to some extent personal choice, its good to be consistent with other studios etc Im thinking these would do well in my home studio alongside the JBL 4311 ,Both standards . And not so standard but very revealing Klipsch Cornwall ,large 3 way floor standing systems.

      @WarrenHenry  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Rob thanks for watching. You say you have a pair of 4311’s? I remember when those, along with the Urei 809’s were what most studios used. Good stuff. Have you ever had to have the drivers replaced or re-coned?

    How are they vs the Mix-cubes from Avontones?

    • @WarrenHenry
      @WarrenHenry  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      These bro, are the real deal made by Auratone in Nashville and have been a studio staple for over 50 years. Avantones, are not made in America and have a more pronounced high end (which you don’t want when mixing on these) Honestly, these monitors paired with a sub woofer are all you need. They’re very mid forward (2K to about 7K ). Once you do a mix on Auratones they translate well from ear buds to your primary pair of monitors. Thanks for your question ✌🏾🙏🏾 and please subscribe 👍🏾
