I split my track at the end of the portion I want to fix, then I select the second part and duplicate it on a new track (ctrl-D), this way it gets preserves and maintains it's alignment. Then I go ahead and put my play head where I want to punch in and record the fix. As a bonus, the duplicated track shows me where I need to stop as it is still aligned with where it was before. I can then just ctrl-c the duplicated track and paste it back in.

@@TrueNorf I decided not to do an unboxing but I'm thinking about doing a video talking about my experience going from Sony, to black magic, to cannon. I'll probably do that soon :)

OMG I thought I was doing something wrong! This is the most insane feature I've ever come across! Thank you for making this video, now I know that I'm not a boomer, and that it's not me, it's them.

You are so welcome! I can't believe it either! It's ridiculous! They have made P&R practically useless! :( I hope they fix it sooner than later.

So for my audition I stopped when I made a mistake and deleted it, then recorded the proper wording on the same track, went into tracks then align tracks then align end to end. Working on my first 15 minutes now. I was just looking around from editing ideas. I think I'm going to stick with mine. It seems to work and it pretty similar to what you're doing. Thank you for the video. ~Michele~

Ideally, you would select the whole piece you wanted to replace then it should punch in AND out. Preserving the timing... Especially for music work.

I'm just starting to dabble in the P&R thing so thanks for this video! Here's a question, is there something in audacity where you can back the recording maybe 5 or 10 seconds WHILE you're recording? For example, let's say I'm counting to 25, at the number 14 I say 40 by mistake. Is there a way I can just hit a button and the recording automatically stops, goes back 5 seconds and I can continue recording? Or do I have to stop the recording on my own, put the curser back to where I want it, and then start the recording from there? I hope I'm explaining it right.

I totally get what you're saying, that was a great explanation, I'm just not sure it can be done unfortunately. :( I've never done it and I don't know of anyone who has, but that doesn't mean it can't be done. I could see that being very useful. Sorry I can't give you an answer at this very moment.
