Ohh,I have a tomato story for you,Dearest Linda. My grandfather, rest his soul, was born in the town of Cefalu,Sicily. Giuseppe Montalto.he went by the name Joe. My mother, she hated how grandpa Joe constantly took photographs of his incredible tomatoes! She was like”they’re tomatoes!why does he photograph them???” I find these now vintage photos nothing short of genius. He appreciated the beauty, the results of his hard earned labor. A Sicilian appreciates the tiny things,as they come from a place where so little is to be had.❤️
Hi from Annie , the garden has frown so fast since start of the year all looks so nice and the backyard is last to be done that hot weather would put things on hold for a while. For the back yard a pergola would be nice in the center with gravel or brickwork in the middle with table n chairs on it either big circle or square shape for the gravel or brickwork. Even a swimming pool would look fabulous. Inside the entrance rugs all look good, and the little table in corner which is a small entertainment area. feels very cosy and intimate which is good.
Hi Linda - thanks for the tour. Your home is lovely and you are soooooooo happy in it... that's the best part!! As for the rug, I agree that you should roll up the wool rug and store it for the cooler seasons; it is too visually heavy for the heat of summer. Rather than purchase another sisal rug, I recommend that you don't put any rug down. Simply leave the floors (as much or as little as you want) bare. I remove a rug from my front foyer at the beginnning of spring and don't see it again until mid-autumn. The lightness/airyness created by the reduction of visual impact is great for the summer months. Thanks for the chance to chime in. Enjoy your 4th of July celebrations.
This is a great video, and I love the suggestion of the 4’ x 4’ gardening at a time during the extreme heat. I recently clipped my hedges on a very hot day and while I wore a hat, I had not drank anything other than coffee that morning and started out dehydrated, and I became extremely dizzy. I brought water out with me and thought that was enough but it was not. I went in immediately. It took me many hours later to recover after cooling off inside and drinking plenty of water. I went out another day to cut another section of hedges and waited until there was shade from a tree and drank a lot of water beforehand. I realized after that event I need to next time do the cutting over time and possibly over a couple days in addition to hydrating a lot first.
Linda, before you go and have a new carpet made for your dining room. Take the one that you have and flip it over. I learned this from a dear decorator friend of mine. It will be a little more muted and “antique-ish” and you may find it just perfect!!
Linda I actually love the rug for summer in your dining area. It picks up all the colors in the painting. I’m afraid the rug in the parlor would be too bland and to matchy to all the other neutrals . The house looks amazing and so welcoming. You’ve done a great job.
Hi Linda, great idea mowing around the edge of your lawn💚👍😁. I'm definitely going to copy that idea😅. Loving your home🏡 and the garden, amazing how its filled in. 100 😳. Can't imagine living in such high temperatures. Thank goodness for A. C. I guess. Sending love from Rosie 🌹O from Devon England 🇬🇧🤗
I live that Stuart asks the questions I want to know! You guys are so fun to watch! I feel like I’m there in the conversation. You always keep me interested! Love it
Beautiful progress on the garden and house!! In the kitchen, how about hanging a collection of plates on the empty wall to the left of the painting over the table. You can bring in blues there…and switch them out seasonally, too!
Suggestion regarding the rug....if you are going to get a custom rug from the carpet store, have the rug cut a couple of inches bigger than the current rug. Put the new rug on top of the original rug (assuming the original rug is not too thick) and the original rug functions as a rug pad and won't have to be moved or stored. Use a system of "rug layering" to partially avoid the work of switching out rugs. I like to also switch out wall art seasonally.
This video was very useful Linda. I changed how I looked at my garden before the heat of summer. I pruned, deadheaded and weeded thinking of your tips. Thank you. 31:36
Linda, I absolutely adore the rug in your dining area and would leave it there all year long! It truly does look gorgeous with the monument valley painting above your dining dining set. I really enjoyed the whole video!
🌿💗 Plus, it does have tones of muted pastels that would coordinate well with brighter tablescapes. It’s a beautiful backdrop. Please consider keeping it year round Linda. 💗🌿
Oh Linda you brought tears to my eyes🌻 on these warm days I’ve been going through my old Martha Stewart magazines and tearing pages that inspire me🌻 then I came to my Mary Englebreit magazines and the entire magazine inspired me🌻 I left them intact🌹 You are always a breath of fresh air and a true inspiration to us all💐
I agree on changing out the rug in the summer for one like in the parlor. Putting out the current rug in the fall/winter will really bring a fresh coziness and warmth to the surroundings.
Loved this video! Regarding your rug, I can understand changing it out, as I do the same for each season in my mudroom. I think the colors in the rug can go well in any season. The navy and yellow in the rug match the lampshade on the bar. You have also picked up some of the colors in the pillows on the banquet. Maybe pulling out more of the light blue in the rug in your napkins, pillows, barware, kitchen towels and other accessories will create a more cohesive look that has a summer vibe, if you don't want the trouble of changing out the rug. Pulling out the light blue will also pick up the rug in your front room and tie both rooms together more closely. Whatever you do, Linda, it will be fabulous!
I think changing the rug out would be good, the same kind of rug would flow though the house, and the one with red would look good around Christmas and fall, great idea
I appreciate the reminder that I am not struggling alone. It has been so so hot. I am spreading mulch over three acres of garden. I wont let this task go next spring before the heat and humidity of summer come to my 9B zone. My thoughts are with everyone suffering from the heat and the flooding this summer. I can consider myself lucky. The garden is beautiful Linda. I knew you could do it again, but you are exceeding my expectations. Woohoo!🎉❤
Thank you for the information!!! And thank you for knowing how to explain gardening. This summer is already proving to be a dread in Florida. Too much rain it seems like until the dry spells happen where it seems super humid and nothing should dry up, BUT the air temp is hot enough that deceitfully, everything still gets dried up. A few times I've missed watering and set my growth back as I tried to establish my plants before the drought. Now I've ordered a solar powered irrigation system and rain catcher to supply water for the system to help me not forget and to also avoid over watering
What a wonderful video from the front yard to inside the house. My friend clips pages out of magazines and has idea for decorating her house just like you. I really enjoyed it today ❤
I understand your thoughts about the rug but I think it gives more a southwest vibe than fall given it's tonal fidelity with the bench pillows and painting and the textures you have integrated throughout the kitchen area. It looks like a welcoming step into a distinct area separate from the parlor. Either way you have the gift to make things look beautiful!
Nooo! That rug is the jewel of your kitchen. It is the first thing my eyes go to. Love it, love it! Having another another colorful rug for summer would work. However, a solid color beige/tan rug would give the kitchen a washed out look. That is just my opinion. You are the one with great taste.
Thank you for having Christmas in July and planning for fall and Christmas planters! I was thinking I was a little crazy for thinking about that but you restored my faith :-)
I use a Joe Shade Umbrella that comes with a stand from Amazon when I’m in the garden. I also use a heavy duty fan with a drop cord. It keeps me cool and keeps the mosquitoes away because they can’t fly against the wind of the fan.
In Australia we celebrate Christmas in July so that we can have a cold Christmas. We were lucky enough to even have snow one year in the southern highlands!❤❤
I LOVE those blue point junipers in those pots!! Those pots they are in are absolutely gorgeous Linda!! I never see pots like that around here where I live. I’d say a trip to Columbus, I’m sure would find some but one would be a million dollars.. 🤨
I loved the behind the scenes look at your project board. It helps me to appreciate that you are several steps ahead for the channel. Your work ethic is impressive:)
Zone 7B, N MS. Not dreaming of Christmas, but I always dream of October, the four most glorious weeks of the year! Your window box is looking great right now. Triple digit heat this week, but we still have rain in the forecast (and rain last night), and a little more temperate next week. I'm still planting out my summer annuals started from seed and starting some more zinnias, cosmos and marigolds this week.
The kitchen rug is a gorgeous piece of art! Looks fabulous and stands as a focal point transitioning the front room to the kitchen! Looks great with the table and wall art!
The garden is looking so beautiful! I sure wish I had sowed the cleome seed I bought. Next year! I had a design professor that said , " you don't create out of a vacuum ", and always encouraged us to have inspiration books and pictures like you do.. I love your dining rug, and feel it gives more depth and interest to your home, but you do you. Changing out pillows with pillow covers is an easy sesonal fix.
Years back,I would plant ( Cleome) or Spider plants as we referred to them. But,in the heat of the day, they always curled and wilted, until Sun passed and they would perk up again. Looking at yours, proudly displaying themselves in the extreme heat of Oklahoma ,I am so surprise, they can take the Sun. Your front garden is filling in so beautifully.
Ah, Linda, I just used my Barnell pruners to cut back my splayed open sage plants. I started out using my hand pruners, but abandoned that immediately because it would have taken too long. It was very hot that day. I thought I'd beat the heat getting outdoors earlyish. But before I knew it, I was dripping wet. I wear sunscreen, but forgot the small of my back 🤦🏼♀️ and could feel it burning. Not 102, but it was in the 90s by ten. My nearby roses practically gasped audibly once I gave them breathing room from the mature sage plants. I was thinking of popping your tower supports over the tamed sage plants, but I doubt they'll reflush blooms that big again. After more than a month without rain, we got about an inch Friday night! I was weeding in the rain. Quite refreshing. My power went out so it was cooler outside. I knew it had been restored when I could hear my neighbors' A/C unit. Last night, another near inch fell. Our temps this week should be delightful. Finally! Maybe I can complete my front garden project inspired by you. Hardscaping isn't a quick project. Come on, Linda! You must listen to some oldies rock and roll. I'm your age and like to crank the volume once in a while. I'm a huge Queen fan and picked out some music to be played at my funeral. For fun, "Fat Bottomed Girls" appeals to my sense of humor. 😂
The bench and table are absolutely perfect for each other! I tend to prefer rounded things, too! I have a couple of chairs like yours in my breakfast room and now want to replace my table with something smaller and see how I should be able to have wood cut to mimic yours to just fit my space.
I like the idea of a spring/summer rug and I would go for a narrowed version since you really don't need bench to be on it, maybe width of the island. I ordered the Garden Table but I am now on a wait list so we'll see😎
I love watching and listening to you Linda! You have given me the bug to be more of a gardener. I always say my small perennial garden is a work in progress and you have given me so much inspiration to keep it going. Thank you!!!
What a trouper you are LInda, making a video for us. It looks so hot there! I think it's sundress weather. Great garden tips. It looks like you could actually rob Peter to pay Paul by taking a salvia or two from the front to get more air circulation. They have filled out so quickly.😎
Hi Linda and Stewart!!…Linda your garden has grown so much , it’s like you have always been there💚…and inside the cottage has all the perfect Linda Vater touches and more, just absolutely love it!!
Linda, I just LOVE how you make up your own rules for everything - gardening, decor, life! ❤😄 We should all be so confident and bold with our style preferences! 😊 I love that flipped rug you have in your dining area right now, and I really wish someone would bring a reversible rug to market for the mainstream consumer. What a fabulous idea! 😊
I agree with changing the rug for spring/summer and fall/winter. I change a lot of my art and accessories with the seasons. Your house and yard are beautiful!
What an enjoyable video ! Yes to a summer sisal rug , garden looks beautiful & window box perfection … love Stuart’s little comments …. Love orange pomanders at Christmas … I want that bench too now !
Concerning cutting grass, I aim to cut it around 10am-ish as the dew is gone and it provides time for the grass to recover before nightfall. Don't overcommit and wear yourself out Linda!
Consider getting a rug for your dining area that is the same solid color as the bottom of the kitchen island - dark blue (or is it grey?) That would give the eyes a place to "rest" and allow the colors of your table adornments and the wall art to really pop! To test this out, you could cover the rug with a large appropriately dark blue sheet or tablecloth - just to get an idea.
We have it in North Louisiana too, the extreme heat. I live 20 miles from the Texas line and yesterday our heat index was 110. We also experienced power outages for a week from a storm.
Just a thought for you---at our house we enjoy our wood floors during spring and summer and put our rugs down in the fall and winter---of course if you have a huge rug as we do it stays and others are removed😊
I really enjoyed and got a lot out of this video and your hot summer tips. We are literally boiling down in Texas (Houston) and so is my garden. It’s so disheartening when you have a vision of how it’s all going to look in the long summer months and then you have to move in to just survival of the fittest mode! Praying for a cool down. Thank you for another great video Linda and Stewart.
Switch the Sisal rug with the vintage rug in front of your banquette table. The vintage rug would look stunning in your front parlor room. The sisal will look stunning in front of the banquette. Then in the fall switch it back
We've had milder temps here in way NORCAL but triple digits are on their way for the 4th of July on. We get up to 110 so then I only go out in early morning & evening. Happy holiday guys. P. S. I love wire plant. I currently have 2 but will check our local Lowes. Love your art work. ESPECIALLY Monument Valley. Love the place & the painting.
I’m also thinking of all of you in the lower states. Please take care of yourselves. Find shade. 😊 I’m in northern Canada up beside Alaska. We get extreme cold, I won’t even mention how cold, but we have lovely summers in the land of the midnight sun.
Enjoyed the gardening tips and the lawn care tips were really great! Even mentioned them to the hubby! 🌳🌱🍃 Everything looks so pretty in your garden, especially the window box area. Just so lush, textural, colorful and pretty!🪻🌳🌸 The current rug matches the painting beautifully, but if you want to change it up seasonally, maybe a blue textured rug would look wonderful for spring and summer. It would be a great foil to all the tan colors in the painting, furniture and floors and tie into the hints of blue in the painting itself and also connect with the blue island and painting by the bar beyond and the lighter blue couch in the sitting room in front. It would go well with blue and white table decor in January, pretty with pinks and greens in the spring and beach with whites and creams and sand colors in the summer. It wound create traditional color combinations, yet a modern vibe. (Btw, your pretty outfit was the inspiration! Take a look at your video again and see how a beautiful blue rug could look with what you have. :-) Thank you again to you and Stuart for these lovely videos. They brighten my day and I look forward to seeing what you’re doing and gaining tips and inspiration. ✨
Linda, I didn't let my plants boss me today and decided to use the Barnel shears (which I love) and trimmed those naughty plants🤣 Love the Barnel shears- thanks
Linda, I had to laugh when you said you wanted to get another bench even though you didn’t know what you would do with it. I’m the same way when I like something! Stewart’s idea of using one as an entry bench made me think of the space under the entry table in your parlor. Could one of those benches live under the table & then be pulled out & used to sit on when necessary? The wood colors look like they work together. Thanks for all the great gardening tips today & always. Things are really looking great at the cottage!
Great advice for hot weather gardener survival. Texas has been extra challenging this June. Need all the help we can find. Looking forward to fall! Loved your ideas!
I cut back my scented geranium and took off the lower leaves and plopped the cuttings into a new pot to grow more plants. I am going to do the same with my butterfly bush and even some roses. I am swarmed by spider mite as never before. In my trees, plants and pond even. I am washing them off with the hose and keeping my infected plants separate. Didn't help putting my tomatoes ten ft apart though. The insects need those blooms still, though. Indiana got hit with several tornadoes and other bad weather today.
Gorgeous Garden! I love how you say to weed a 4 x 4 area in your garden as your short term goal. Yes! We will go back in the garden several times during the day!🙌🏼 next week with the hot temperature you need to have some water bottles in an ice bucket for you and Stewart!❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Linda. Your garden is so green and has filled in so rapidly. It is so lovely!! It is so beautiful! Love it!! Thanks for sharing your lovely garden! You and Stewart are so much fun to watch!!
Omg Linda I'm so glad you said take it 4 by 4 in sections working in the garden as we have warmer weather too here in ireland even though it rained it's still warm. And today that's exactly what I did bit by bit I was digging my back garden. As this is my 2nd home I'm starting again I agree I like my plants too groomed 😊
Your kitchen rug is the summer look. Europeans turn their rugs to the wrong side for summertime (and for parties.) I do this, too. So, your beautiful rug is fine as it is.
Hi Linda and Stewart in old days it was quite common to pick up the rugs and drapery and store them and either leave the floors bare or put something else down that just made the house summer ready. I think for drapery they just took down the heavy panels and left the sheers. So yes changing out a rug will change the look for the season. I have done that too. Changed the reds for the greens in summer. It’s work but it’s only done every 6 months. Well I’m out to cut back my plants for air movement. Have a nice weekend. 😊
Your garden is stunning. Great hot weather tips, especially about importance of air circulation. I recently purchased a fiskar stand up weeder. Love it almost as much as my hori hori knife. The rug is beautiful with the painting and the wood floors but agree that during the heat of the summer sisal might be a cooler feeling option.
If I didn’t know Linda and stumbled across this video I would never ever believe that this is a new garden…..what takes people years she’s done in a few months…..incredible!!!! Stunning ❤❤ We’ve had extreme heat for this time of year here in Nottinghamshire UK too.
The seasonal rug in your dining area sounds fabulous! I’m impressed with the amount of interesting info you shared. Super tips. Thanks Linda and Stewart!
Linda it was my lucky day today... A flower Shop had a lot of little myrthle topiaries... Plants were very dry and un happy... The shop owner gave them all to me. Hydrated them immediately and are now outside on a shady place. They will get their Sunny spot as soon as they are better. Can t believe it. I hope they will recover.

I cannot believe how much your garden has filled already! So dense and full. Lovely.

Rug is perfect with that painting - spring, summer, fall, winter - simply, it works and I'd leave it year round -

She said she is already doing that.

SO SO AGREE!!! THE DINING RUG IS A KEEPER YEAR ROUND!!!
I think if you’d replace pillows with blue ones the blue would pop more in the rug. Then add more blue on table.
I was never doubtful. The window box and the patio in front are way way better then I could visualize ever. Love love it. You are the real deal.
I live that Stuart asks the questions I want to know! You guys are so fun to watch! I feel like I’m there in the conversation. You always keep me interested! Love it
The rug and art are just perfect for all year. Please keep it. The reverse 😊is terrific!

Love that dwarf wire vine. Everything looks so pretty. It’s amazing how quickly everything has come together.
Your garden is just amazing..I can't believe this was achieved in such a short time ❤
I really like the sisal rugs- they pull the whole house together like the window shades and yet each space has its own personality🌺

Come on, Linda! You must listen to some oldies rock and roll. I'm your age and like to crank the volume once in a while. I'm a huge Queen fan and picked out some music to be played at my funeral. For fun, "Fat Bottomed Girls" appeals to my sense of humor. 😂
Your garden is beautiful. It looks like it has been there for years.
I like changing items seasonally too.
I ordered the Garden Table but I am now on a wait list so we'll see😎
I can’t wait to see what you do for Christmas this year, so exciting! 🎄🇨🇦
I love watching and listening to you Linda! You have given me the bug to be more of a gardener. I always say my small perennial garden is a work in progress and you have given me so much inspiration to keep it going. Thank you!!!
I would suggest that you make the bench on the sitting room side a long drawer that pulls out so you don’t have to squeeze in or move pillows.
I would suggest having no rug at all during the hot weather months. Makes it seem cooler
WOW! Window box is preforming magnificently!
Linda, your zest for new projects and ideas is just fabulous!
The garden looks amazing and I’m using all your wonderful tips and inspiration 😊
Love to see pumpkins and a lantern on your side yard bench for fall. I may replicate that. Stay cool.
Agree on the carpet 100% & seasonal change love the table looks Scandinavian…lovely bench & big banquet fan. Happy Summer! ❤👡👗☀️🍉❤️💙🇺🇸💕🌅
I agree with changing the rug for spring/summer and fall/winter. I change a lot of my art and accessories with the seasons. Your house and yard are beautiful!
It seems as if you are really enjoying your new home so happy for you
What an enjoyable video !
Stay safe! Hopefully relief will come soon to LA and Texas 🙏
Beautiful view from the sidewalk.
Find shade. 😊
I’m in northern Canada up beside Alaska. We get extreme cold, I won’t even mention how cold, but we have lovely summers in the land of the midnight sun.
Enjoyed the gardening tips and the lawn care tips were really great! Even mentioned them to the hubby! 🌳🌱🍃
Everything looks so pretty in your garden, especially the window box area. Just so lush, textural, colorful and pretty!🪻🌳🌸
The current rug matches the painting beautifully, but if you want to change it up seasonally, maybe a blue textured rug would look wonderful for spring and summer. :-)
Thank you again to you and Stuart for these lovely videos.
I really like how the fire chief arborvitae have changed color to chartreuse in the summer! ❤
I like the pavers with the brick. Pattern looks great.
Great advice for hot weather gardener survival. Texas has been extra challenging this June. Need all the help we can find. Looking forward to fall! Loved your ideas!
The morning light makes your garden so romantic ❤
Lots of inspiration Linda. Thank you
I really like your bench on the side of the house. Linda looks cozy.
Linda. Your garden is so green and has filled in so rapidly. It is so lovely!! It is so beautiful! Love it!! Thanks for sharing your lovely garden! You and Stewart are so much fun to watch!!
Good tips! I carry a 10 gallon grow bag when I weed. It’s nice and lightweight.
So many good and usable tips today! Linda your garden continues to inspire!!!!!
Linda! The garden is looking amazing!! I love your use of color. Just gorgeous!
I took that idea and transplanted some junipers into my prairie garden. They are really looking good after 2 years.
Cutting off spent butterfly bush flowers, I realized I can put these in a glass jar to display, they are so pretty.
If I didn’t know Linda and stumbled across this video I would never ever believe that this is a new garden…..what takes people years she’s done in a few months…..incredible!!!! Stunning ❤❤ We’ve had extreme heat for this time of year here in Nottinghamshire UK too.
Love to do clove studded oranges every Christmas! Good reminder to keep looking forward 🎄🎄🎄
Score! I am so jealous!
