  • Catching up this season for the 2nd year in a row with contractor Jason Robley and his magnificent Fendt 828 vario/ Reco reverse drive forager and with a new location for me it was all hands on deck as heavy rain had been forecasted for later in the day.
Keeping up with the Fendt on trailer duties were the farms own Claas Arion 460 and MF 5713S pulling Marshall (don’t think I’ve ever seen a green one before) and Fraser trailers while giving a helping hand was a MF 6490 again pulling a Fraser trailer and bellowing out a wonderful roar through its chrome straight pipe!
Working together at the clamp were a JCB TM 320s assisted on rolling duties by a Claas Arion 640, both keeping up with the three trailers on the go.
It was a bit of an overcast and cold windy day but the sun did make an appearance with even a little bit of blue sky peeking through the clouds every so often making it very interesting light to film under. Thankfully though it didn’t rain and all was safely gathered in by the end of the day!
Filmed in Cumbria 3rd June 2024.

Buy a Kemper maize header for that now and it’ll pay for itself by November if we have another wet maize harvest. Great video. And thanks for leaving the sounds!!

Now that’s a good idea as judging by the last few wet winters we’ve had (not to mention summers!) you’re right a Kemper header would pay for itself! Great comment and thanks for the suggestion and of course the viewing (I always leave the natural sound!) Cheers, David.

@@davidwinthrop7077 Yep a used 4 row Kemper header from across the channel would'nt cost the earth. If the contractor is looking then one of the best places to find them is an app called Landwirt. Kemper 300 series. Thakns for the reply.

Thanks David for this really interesting video featuring the Fendt 828 vario complete with the Reco reverse drive forager. I have seen pictures of these but this is my first time seeing them in action, and I have to say its pretty impressive. Although its throughput is not quite up there with self propelled units, it must be very close I would say, and with my business hat on, a great use of an expensive asset, in that the tractor can be used all year round. The good old Fraser trailers bring back a memory of my uncle giving me hell for damaging an axle on one of the 4 we had, and no matter what I said, he would not believe me that I was not aware of any damage. It turns out, it was my cousin that caused the damage and he owned up, but as you can guess, I am still waiting for an apology, which considering he's 6' under, I will never get! I also have to agree with you, that I too have never seen a Marshall trailer in green before and it looks a little out of place. The MF 6490 when it was turning into the yard was a fantastic sound and brought a smile to my face, however the whistling from the JCB TM 320s would have done my head in, but then again it was doing well keeping up with the loads coming in. Despite the overcast day, the quality of your stills and video were as always top class, so much so, you would even think that you new what you were doing 😂. (Sorry for the cheek, but you know I will take any opportunity for a laugh) Thanks as always David. Cheers, Fraser.

Fraser, a very good evening to you, hope you are well my friend and thank you once again for your short comment!😂 Ah yes indeed the Fendt 828/ Reco forager outfit certainly is an interesting piece of kit. I too have seen pictures though only in my stash of tractor & farm machinery brochures (according to the better half I have far too many!) but this is the only one I know that is working in my area. You’re correct in saying it’s output isn’t quite up there with a SP forager but given the right conditions it’s damn close and as you also mention it can easily be converted back to a regular tractor (which it often is) out of season so a lot more versatile in that respect. Ah yes the Fraser trailers (good name that), not so many about the area now but there used to literally be hundreds in use in the Cumbrian area. Ha that story about you, your uncle and your cousin made me laugh, your uncle never gave you that apology but you can still smile about it all these years later! Yes a green Marshall, never seen one before but I suppose it matched the Claas tractor but then again the usual red paintwork would have too. Oh doesn’t that MF 6490 sound magnificent, I could listen to that engine note all day and I’m with you on the JCB but that’s probably because it was playing hell with my tinnitus (caused by too many years playing loud rock n roll!), it was working really hard though but the Claas Arion rolling the pit certainly helped out with its workload! Ah thanks for that Fraser, I really enjoy filming the video footage and taking stills with my Nikon that although is a bit unwieldy with it’s big heavy zoom lens takes great photos which unfortunately I can’t use on the videos as the resolution is too large and kind of shows the video footage quality of my phone (good as it is) up a bit and don’t worry I can take a bit of flack as I’m very tough skinned! Thank you as always Fraser, weather here while sunny tonight has been pretty nasty but I’ve still got a few videos already shot and ready to edit to keep me going and hopefully the likes of yourself watching till the weather picks up (hopefully soon!) again. Take care my friend, cheers, David.

@@davidwinthrop7077 Well David, you will need to have serious words with your "better half", as how can you ever have too many tractor & farm machinery brochures or magazines! (Good luck with that one, and don't you go blaming me for stirring it up) 😂. Take care. Cheers, Fraser

      @@frasermathers2287
Ah Fraser, I know better that in having serious words with the better half (no point, she always wins and I won’t mention you stirring it up!) isn’t worth the hassle and I probably do have to many but at least they’re all tucked away in my little room so not in her sight if I add a few more (though they are very expensive now especially considering I didn’t pay anything for mine as I used to just pick them up from the machinery dealers!)
Forgot to mention it in my previous reply that you pointed out about the quality of shooting under an overcast sky. In fact I’ve actually taken some of my best photos with a cloudy sky but the sun lighting it up from behind the camera, it always seems to capture a more natural colour on the machines without glare and often seems sharper in quality. I’ve taken many thousands of shots in the past and I’m very proud of them especially when you’ve captured a moment in time that no matter how hard you try you’ll never get that exact same photo again. I wish you could see some of them, who knows you might one day! Cheers, David.

@@davidwinthrop7077 Yeah you are correct David not to attempt to have serious words, as I was the same in that I never won either. Never really thought about the fact of having a more natural light, which on thinking about it makes total sense, plus it shows who between us has the more knowledge 😀. Well maybe some day I will get to see them, which would be amazing. Thanks Fraser.
