  • Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a large apartment fire near Southwest Taylor Street and 14th Avenue on Tuesday. A spokesperson for the fire department told KGW that four people were rescued, but crews had to pull back before the search was complete. One firefighter was injured when a window blew out and a piece of glass struck his forehead, Portland Fire & Rescue said.
    Officials told KGW that the age of the 113-year old building made it more vulnerable to fire. The Portland Bureau of Development Services confirmed that they'd received complaints about the building from residents, and also that an inspector had been on-site Monday, one day before the building caught fire.

      Negligent property management retaliating to the inspection. Every apartment building in the city has this problem right down to the recurring fire alarms. Property management companies, landlords and nonprofits are the reason that town went crazy and homeless. RIP Mora McGowan and Michael Douglas, who died in 1998 by public suicide to raise awareness about the same issues plaguing the city today.

      Portland isn't the only US city with serious issues, although the news and people make it seem so. People move to Portland just like people move to LA, San Fran, Austin, NYC and etc etc. The whole damn country has problems and as bad off as Portland has become, believe some cities are much worse.

    • @bshinn4884
      @bshinn4884 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @BlueSky2023 I travel for work. Was in NYC last year. Not great, not horrible until Roosevelt Island and beyond. The roads were shit but always have been since my first visit in 97. Ive seen stories that likely have a LOT of truth to them about empty real estate, grafitti, crime now back up to 80s era levels etc.(another corruption in politics issue sadly) San Fran some parts VERY dirty, but still a few OK places. San Diego was clean mostly in March. Kansas City is a mix, where I'm from, Tulsa, has its good and bad places that have gotten worse. ATL is somewhat trashy but has a weird charm, as does Austin. Dallas is still surprisingly clean. I'm in Portland RN(as in today. I'll be here until Friday, from the airport (layover in Salt Lake airport was very nice and clean, but Portland right out the gate was just NASTY) to Crowne Plaza hotel convention cntr and over to seven corners to jobsite is a mess. Usually Ill see a nice spot here and there even around bad areas, but even a golf course I passed looked horrible. Just dirty everywhere. Like trash everywhere. Worst city I've seen in a long time. Reminds me of Jaurez in the 90s bad, or SA in early 00s and probably now bad. I passed 4 well established homeless encampment in a 2 mile highway stretch on the embankments, with the caravan/tents/broken cars/plywood walls and everything. There is a big tent city across the street from my hotel. And it's a 4 star. And I am meeting more unpleasant than pleasant people(probably because they have to live in it).
      So let's be honest. Portland is pretty damn bad rn, which is sad, because it would be so beautiful if trash wasn't strewn everywhere. Even the industrial area by the river looks worse than Witchita did when I was going up. I feel like I'm gonna catch something just walking around. And I won't even bring up the building violations I just witnessed on the site I'm at. If you live in Portland, be proud of your city, fine. But be honest. Your political leaders have failed you.
      I actually started googling a bit ago after I got back to hotel to see why it was this bad, and it seems at least in part, it's due to a mixture of things including overstretched utilities and police, and a horribly inefficient trash pickup system, and corrupt govt that just exasperated the issues during the vid.
      And FYI my goal isn't merely to rag on you, especially if you are from Portland. And yes a LOT of places have serious issues rn now, but Portland is nuts. Hell I kinda feel sorry for you and everyone else there.
      People have got to stop letting pride and bias blind them to truth, or else nothing will ever be fixed. Portland has a problem rn for sure

    • @BlueSky-gu2bx
      @BlueSky-gu2bx ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bshinn4884 Yes I agree with you Portland that was once a wonderful city, has definitely deteriorated Believe it or not it was worse until earlier this year, but much needs to change. The city has been cleaning itself up in the downtown, but so much of the trash has moved into the East side that your experiencing. That Crown Plaza Hotel at the airport I believe is the one where 3 murders have taken place since Nov 22. Young people from troubled backgrounds were involved in those murders. I don't know if they were gang related murders or what. The messed up city Gov't is the reason for so much chaos in the area, although they are not the only cause. Much of the population is the reason also, with their sick thoughtless outlook on life. Defunding the Police and all this leniency with the Homeless, the legalization of drugs is not my viewpoints. I'm disgusted with that style of Politics. Yes I am from the area, and I keep trying to have hope for the city. Others may not feel the same way as I do, but I think Portland is going to be turning around for the better. Although it will be from what I am seeing a slow process. There really is alot to love about the area and Oregon in general, but you are most definitely correct. It has become an out of control eyesore in so much of the area, and I'm very sad that its been allowed to happen.
