So frigging absurd in 2024. My dad is black and my late mother was Trinidadian ( Indian/Hispanic). While I consider myself mixed race, I've been black my entire life. I'm actually getting exhausted having to explain to some black people in the comment section that any race can be Jamaican. Her father never once said that they are black jamaicans. The problem is some Americans associate Jamaica with black. That struggle to fight colorism but I noticed not long after that black people, mostly women on the internet started saying biracial people weren't black. Complaining if Halle Berry or Zendaya described themselves as black women. I gave up trying to argue because if you tried to explain that in the past any black blood meant you were black and people would say "You have a plantation mindset." They don't understand that since our Foremothers were dragged off ships and SA by owners we have had biracial babies, but those black mothers raised their black children because no one else was going to. It's been hundreds of years and none of us have all African DNA anymore. Both my parents are black, both sets of grandparents were black yet my skin is lighter than Halle Berry's. It's like we just had to find something else to divide ourselves about.

You can be Jamaican and not be black. Her father identifies as Indian and Irish. His photo shows there is most likely some black Jamaican ancestry as well. However, Kamala identifies as Indian.

Why is this a controversy? Kamala's mother is Indian so it's logical that many people don't consider her black.
