    Thank you so much for doing this comparison! It has really helped me understand the SLO so much better that I just ordered a whole SLO 100 half stack today!

    They sound very similar tonally, but that SLO just has “more” somehow. More clarity, definition, overall “chunk”.
    I’m a bedroom player so a SLO100 is too much, but I’m seriously thinking about selling my EVH 5150III EL34 combo and upgrading to the SLO-30. Just an incredible sounding amp, and a bit more versatile than the EVH too with the crunch and clean channel to go with the legendary overdrive channel.

      I own both the el34 combo and the SLO 100w (and 30). I think the EVH is more versatile because you actually get three distinct channels where as the Soldano you have to choose between clean and crunch as well as a volume disparity between the two. I'm not necessarily suggesting the evh is a better amplifier, just that the EVH is more versatile with its three distinct channels.

      @@-DILLIGAF I did end up getting the SLO-30 just a few weeks ago, and I still think it’s more versatile than the EVH in terms of the different sounds you can get out of it, but I agree with you about the clean / crunch switch on the SLO being a bit frustrating. However, it sounds so unbelievably good I can live with that! I guess the perfect SLO would have the clean / crunch footswitchable and with the volume difference sorted. But I am a happy man - the SLO was my dream amp, so I’m very happy to finally own one :-)

      @Dave Turner Official Agreed, and I didn't go into you can get a "decent" clean by volume rolling and varying pick attack much better with the SLO. It is indeed s fabulous amp. My Wizard MCII is THE amp that put an END to all amp chasing for me. Cheers \m/

    Good selection of guitar music for a comparison. The SLO has that clarity, but I thought the EVH chords were harmonically richer. Nice playing.

    Your first 2 opening chords on the Soldano made me think … “Yup,… right there…that IS VH” !!!

    I know this is an old video but do you happen to know about what settings you had the SLO100 on to get this sound?

    When playing riffs, if you mute the 6th string with your little finger and play, you can get EVH overtones❗️

    Fantastic sounding amps. Are the micro pitch and delay in the fx loop?

    • @BPToneReview
      @BPToneReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not the loop but via line out WDW setup

  • @1sotheary
    @1sotheary 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Soldano cost about $1500 more than the EVH, so that's something to consider.

    • @BPToneReview
      @BPToneReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Absolutely it is. Blue channel gets you pretty close tone wise to the SLO but in the room there’s a mark difference. In a mix, there’s less difference. SLO is leaps and bounds more dynamic, epic crunch channel and phenomenal clean channel, just not foot-switchable clean to crunch like the 5153.

    • @81giorikas
      @81giorikas ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BPToneReview Well the difference comes through here. You have also to take into account that the 5150 III is just a cheaper amp put together by cheaper parts. It is not a knock on sound quality but it is is something you have to take into account for the price difference. If you get an SLO clone made cheaper but clever, and compare to the 5150 III then it would show if it is the circuit or the sum of parts etc.
      In the end it is what it is, the 5150 is spread all over the world made by a massive company , china pcb assembled mexico or wherever they get cheaper and it sounds great and has all the convenience of the three channels in its favor anyway. It is a bit of a different product.

    Have you A/B'd the stealth 100w with the 1st gen 6L6? The 1st gen are known to be less compressed and less fizzy.

    • @BPToneReview
      @BPToneReview  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t played one but those that own both have said they are pretty close with the stealth blue sounding more like an SLO, which after looking at both schematics makes sense. The OG from what I gather it’s a little more bouncy and organic.

    • @cragginshred
      @cragginshred 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BPToneReview copy that. Did you have a TS or similar in front of the EVH Blue ch in the clip? To my ears in the Blue ch clip bringing the mids and maybe presence up a bit would have gotten it closer. Likely never have the same note clarity as in the Slo but closer
      The Red ch sounded closer to the Slo. My trouble with the Slo (100 and 30) was dialing the crunch and Gain channels to work together. Also there seemed to be a tone of top end that does cut, but it could be harsh in the room too.

  • @paulmales1889

    The question is is the SLO 4x better , coz that’s the price difference ( in uk anyway ) .

      @@BPToneReview little more clarity???

    • @BPToneReview
      @BPToneReview  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@bmf5150 it does and more open and not as compressed. SLO has a true clean and true crunch that sounds incredible. What the EVH does so well is anything VanHagar and the amp feels boosted, easy and effortless to play. Has huge tight low end and handles more extreme types of metal better.

    I’ve had a slo and it’s all hyped up because Eddie used them. No way is it wprth 5k

    • @BPToneReview
      @BPToneReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree. I don’t think they’re hyped up because of Eddie but more due to the fact Mike sold the company to Boutique Amp Distribution and all the pre B.A.D. amps sky rocketed for a brief time. Now that the B.A.D. SLO amps have been out for a little while, the OG SLOs are back to “reasonable” prices. I bought my OG SLO just a month ago for under $3500. Still expensive but not $5k expensive.
