I've owned this amp for seven years now and I'm still blown away! Nothing that I tested before or after I got it compares to it when it comes to sound, versatility and ruggedness. So, their are different models of this amp now. Which one do u have. Im fixing to buy one but their are clearly different cabinets and heads. From 600 to several thousand $. I appreciate any input
I have to say, as much as I adore Ed, I was never a fan of this amp. It always sounded kind of nasally to me whenever I saw him play it live on each of the last three tours. It sounded like that warm, mid-rangey punch in the chest he was talking about wasn't there. I never even felt motivated to try one. I have an original 5150, which I love and have played through for 25 years; but the new ones just never grabbed me. I'm glad other players are happy with them, though.
@@bruceguice5306 What do you plan to do with it? Bedroom? Recording? Gigging with a live drummer? 100 watt is awesome but it's overkill (and expensive) for a bedroom player. In that case, I'd get a combo. If you're playing in a garage band or bars, a 50 watt head with a 2 x 12 or 4 x 12 cabinet will be plenty loud. As for 6L6 vs EL34 power tubes, not a HUGE difference but the EL34 has a bit more British vibe to it.

Not true at all, he not only used wireless systems live once they became available, but was an early adopter of the technology. Particularly, he used a Schaffer-Vega and then Nasty Cordless, except for Eruption, he would plug a cable in for Eruption. He also had an entire separate rig primarily for Eruption but also as a backup.
Honestly. Looking at all these 'super star' 'rock star' guitar 'players' idolizing EVH they all look like jo fan bois. EVH is the *only* one who looks normal.
@Barton Dean Yes, one of the few things about social media is that at least now it puts a real face and personality on all that talent that mystified so many people during the days of regular 'broadcasting'. Although I see it just as bad with all the elon musk fanbois who wait in line to virtually suck him off. But thats interesting is that someone like you who seems to have talent that equals many of the performers who gained so much public attention. Which arguably proves that often its not just what you know but who you know too.
Still confounds me no end that he never made an amp with Marshall. I mean, THAT was his sound. The "Brown Sound" was that old Plexi. The Peavey's sounded pretty good. I never cared for the "EVH" amps. Yes it sucks it hurts losing your hero But the impact hes had on me as a musician You can't replace that. what it means to meAnd every other person who has been touched by these 2 great musicians. They will both continue to Shape musicians life's long after we're gone. And that's what it's all about. It was an honor living in the same stratosphere as Neil & Eddie - Legendary 🤙
Neil's death hit me like a ton of bricks right when it happened and is still reverberating through my body. It's like a punch to the gut. It just f_ing sucks 😕. And I don't think I'll ever get over it. Losing a soul like that is just hard to describe as you invest so much your life into that person And their abilities. Try to emulate everything they do. And hopefully all that stuff rubs off on you ,That they do so eloquently. All I can do is pass on my knowledge from the professor &(evh)& let someone else exp., the wall of sound those two gentle giants created.! They're both gone now. Who they are and what they've created has been seared in my mind. What they've given to the music industry is so Valuable thank you Neil and Eddie. Not but respect.
What is that crazy sounding guitar lick that Eddie does at 7:27 ?
I believe those are called "Palm Harmonics"

Someone for gods sake release that footage of him jamming on Frankie! The archive footage and the newer stuff!
Seeing him with the cancer sticks pisses me off.
@omniscient xt He smoked them all his life.
yeah man, smoking is pretty much a thing of the past in my opinion.
Land of the free. Wrote a whole lot more than that, but needed a smoke so I discarded it and went outside.🇺🇸🖕🇺🇸
Yea like 4 packs a day for 50 years
@@wrenchhead4378 Might be right, never see him without a ciggy
Damn those fukkin cigarettes. Poison.
Eddie always plugged into his rig while playing. He never used those wireless systems that 99.98% of guys use today and for the past 20 years.
@@melvins1992 every time I saw them live over the years, Ed was plugged in & the cord was like 50ft long.
But, neither of those have "that" sound. I wonder why when the time came to build his own amp that he didn't work with Marshall.
Why work with a company when you have your own?
Well too bad for the blue channel it goes crashing down sooner than later ! for the 6L6 yes mine !
