Every true fan of OMD acknowledges Souvenir/ABC Auto Industry/International/etc as the best OMD song. See how ridiculous the "every true fan" claim is?
I danced like that when I saw them at Crawley Leisure Centre back in 81. Everyone thought I was a loon, my brother still does ! Looking at him dancing like that back then makes me realise the rest were all loons and I was the only one on his plain ! Quality stuff. Their music always created so much atmospheric emotion.
no the question should be how does he carry on singing the next song after expending that much energy haha but he always did. I've seen them many times. the first time was supporting Gary Numan in 79. So long ago.
That ending always gets to me Maybe It's when all the synths come together and the mellotron pushes to the forefront. Plus the strain in McCluskey's voice adds a fair bit or emotional gravitas that's only driven home by the percussion
What a fantastic band. This is truly in their prime.See how effortless Malcolm's drumming seems. They were young and full of energy, and so were we. An OMD gig back then was a spiritual event..hahaPS if you like the drumming, search for them doing ' Romance of the Telescope ' around this time period of course x
Haunting, powerful synthesized brilliance!! Love how back then it looks like they just knocked off at the office and went straight to stage for a jam! His dancing is prob how most feel when 5pm Friday arrives!!?😁
I've got this concert recorded on VHS. I still watch it now and again if I can remember how to connect the player up. I was always fascinated by his dancing, I loved it.
I loved these guys when I was a wee teenage lass in the 80’s. Then I kind of forgot about them. I’m 52 now and I’ve rediscovered them. Loving it. Especially Andy and his dancing. He is devoid of “ self-aware coolness” which, in my eyes, makes him the coolest. He totally feels the music and just don’t give a fuck. Love that shit.
52 next week and always return to this or either Souvenir or Enola Gay. A band ahead of its time without the over extravagant nature of Adam and the Ants/ Duran Duran or others in the 80s where image seemed more important than music.
Joan of Arc always had a heartbeat and a soul through time and space they both growed and Discovery a World so bitter and cold. .. but there is a promise she made she will come back show the weak and those that seek the truth the way. . . Love the song and video it Delights my soul thanks for sharing😋😋😋 you could dance like that for me forever great song Joan of Arc love it... sincerely yours Joan of Arc🌹
I was never an OMD fan back in those days, but as Ive grown older, much older, I really do appreciate the outstanding music they created for all of us, to enjoy forever.
Wow this is surreal I'm just finding out about this band, it's amazing how far ahead of their time they are. This shit would sell big today I bet especially the live presentation.
+TheWatsonGreen I'd recommend starting with Architecture and Morality then taking in Dazzle Ships in their entirety. Skip most of what came after, but go back and then get the earliest stuff. Even they will admit that their most popular song "If you leave" killed them as a viable band, and didn't represent their sound.
The 2 albums you mention are from the period where they tried to be a serious, artistic band. It was great stuff but commercial suicide. But props to them for sticking to their guns that long, while the label wanted another stupid Thompson Twins.
@@TheFibtastic It was after Crush that they really changed to something else. The McClusky solo years weren't so great - it was such a good move when he and Humphreys reunited.
TheWatsonGreen Organisation and A&M are better albums than Joy Division (who the band are huge fans of) ever made. Shame they spoiled the legacy by chasing money
Just fecking amazing absolutely fantastic, LEGEND'S You don't get a lead singer dancing like that anymore UNBELIEVABLE 👍😉😁❤ Drumming absolutely superb Just LOVETT 😁😉❤👍
Just love to see Andy dancing. Got to see them many years ago at the Brighton Dome one of the best gigs I have been to. Such a great band if you get a chance to see them live you must go.
Mel drumming is pure hell fire! I really love the style in which this is filmed the lighting the angles but most of all the shots of the audience truly amazing.
I was 11yrs old when I first heard this brilliant then even better now with years gone by to appreciate great music and fantastic artists you can keep your modern tat give me 60s, 70s,80s, and 90s any day. 😋👍
For every live performance of this song, the camera should be focused on Malcolm at the end. His drumming is amazing. We can see Andy doing the McCluskey Shuffle anytime.
❤somebody here in 2024 for this amazing song?❤
I’m here…
Yep ..
Cyprus is listening
Canada is listening 🇨🇦
Yeah me Sunderland God's Country 👍
That heavenly melody of the mellotron, that synth bass, that epic drumming and Andy's voice/dancing. This is a masterpiece.
The absolute definition of "masterpiece!"
Every true fan of OMD acknloledges this as the Best OMD song. Probably one of the best songs ever written too.
yup, i keep coming back to this vid once in a while.. There was time i tried to learn drumming like the drummer here and failed lol.
try it on 420 ;)
New stone age
So true!
Every true fan of OMD acknowledges Souvenir/ABC Auto Industry/International/etc as the best OMD song. See how ridiculous the "every true fan" claim is?
The intro - drum beat - melody - vocals - just incredible.
"That's not just a song, but him himself, the best live performance forever..."
That dancing is out of this world.....42 years ago....I still don`t believe and I`m old enough to remember it. Brilliant, thank God for You Tube.
I`m old enough that I was there!
Hard to believe, but even after over 40 years this classic is just timeless...
There will only ever be 1 OMD.. They are the best...
The drummer is fantastic
His drumming is hypnotic xxx
That’s as good a drumming performance as I’ve seen, just had his own style and rhythm.
Fantastic, gives me goosebumps!
Just fantastic drumming on a classic track!
Totally agree, that's just amazing drumming. My favourite OMD song.
@@cheofbowland Malcolm Holmes,quality drummer.
Jesus christ how does he dance like that?! It's absolutely amazing.
Simple, he watched Ian Curtis...
@@stevendphoto it mite b the other way round .....saw him dance in the limit in 1979 b4 joy division came on......
no the question should be how does he carry on singing the next song after expending that much energy haha but he always did. I've seen them many times. the first time was supporting Gary Numan in 79. So long ago.
dad dancing at its best
That self-expression-80's-dancing........I miss that 😞
this cannot be just another song, it's timeless classic
I agree - this is the song I play more than any other
I love your rendition of this song, my favorite now .. and I’ve heard Neil Diamond sing this many times. ❤️
An endless emotion, this song still catches me of guard from time to time and makes me cry. It’s something I can’t really explain.
yep, know what you mean, I think for me the homage to the tragic , Joan of Arc, gives it that kick.
Best homage to the band and Joan of Arc: Read court documents of her trial - "Joan of Arc - By Herself and Her Witnesses" by Regine Pernoud.
That ending always gets to me
Maybe It's when all the synths come together and the mellotron pushes to the forefront. Plus the strain in McCluskey's voice adds a fair bit or emotional gravitas that's only driven home by the percussion
...same here.
I understand. It just did and I just did.
Even Andy's dancing can't pull my eyes away from the amazing drummer!!
what a classic, still gives me chills.
Andy’s dancing is good for the soul
Beautiful song and amazing live version.
Andy's dancing is the peak of fluid movement lol.
Probably had sniffed 2k of Colombian's purest beforehand
Looks more like he's getting shot at...
What a song, what a voice. My childhood ❤❤❤
Sin duda en mi lista de las mejores 10 canciones de siempre. No puedo parar de escucharla, un himno de los 80 👏
That’s as good a drumming performance as I’ve seen, just had his own style and rhythm.
Fantastic, gives me goosebumps!
The cross over drumming by Malcolm just gets better every time I watch this. Phenomenal stuff.
Malcolm's drumming is truly fantastic

Daren Hesketh ,youth and endeavour ,a winning combination .
They are still full of energy, Andy was non stop yesterday at Nottingham and still does this dance! They are touring, go see!
@@leoalexart full of Coke you mean..
Every single member of this band is amazing!
The sound at this gig is mind blowing.

his voice just gives you goosebumps
HOW this Band have not been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame is Beyond Me, A true Classic.
They’re not really a rock and roll band
I've got this concert recorded on VHS. I still watch it now and again if I can remember how to connect the player up. I was always fascinated by his dancing, I loved it.

Agree, its not really "dancing" as such, more channelling the music and emotion of lyrics though your body.
52 next week and always return to this or either Souvenir or Enola Gay. A band ahead of its time without the over extravagant nature of Adam and the Ants/ Duran Duran or others in the 80s where image seemed more important than music.
*_This is the very best performance of all time!!!!_*
i went to loads of concerts when i was younger and never saw a bigger ovation at the end of a song than this one

Awesome song and some great moves :-)
KILLING MOON and YOU awesome name! :-D
By far the best video i have seen today! Thank you for this
Wahnsinn, da bekomme ich immer noch eine Gänsehaut. !!!
Breath taking
Cracking live video of a brilliant song, his style of dancing will keep him fit. :-)
It's like Ian Curtis' ghost came back in the form of McCluskey's dance moves, but the ghost is at 45 and the band at 33 1/3.
Sad song but dancing puts a smile on my face.
Always loved this since the day it came out.
No autotune rubbish here not needed OMD was a band of pure talent their live performances were as good as their recordings.
4 people got together and created something genius
One of their song that make me cry... So lovely
For every live performance of this song, the camera should be focused on Malcolm at the end. His drumming is amazing. We can see Andy doing the McCluskey Shuffle anytime.
Malcolm Holmes.....the best drummer of that era.....or of all times.....
The drummer is a beast! F#ckin' great!

So Andy always dances in maid of Orleans live performances.

I always wanted to dance like that when going out, but hardly anybody did so. So I felt weird, but I did not care at al! Lovely eighties.
Brilliant just Brilliant one of my favorite songs of all time🇿🇦🕺🕺💪💪
wonderful song !!!
When they performed this the song was still an album track, it was released as a single at the end of 1981.
