I have bought the miniature Secret Garden after watching your completed book. You have done a great job and if I can do even half as good as you, I’ll be very happy. Might have to steal some of your colour ideas, hope you don’t mind.

Every page is beautiful. I love how on some pages you only used a few colours and the rainbow colour pages are cool too. Xx

I'm old enough that when I started painting there were only VHS lessons available.. or the public access TV shows which don't exist anymore. They were VERY expensive and didn't hold much, so you would get an hour or two per tape max. I remember saving up to buy a few sets that were cherished and rewatched over and over (in fact I still had them until the hurricane in 2020, that is how precious they were).. today it's just thousands of hours of instruction at your fingertips. Before that all we had were books, and magazines.. unless you were very lucky and could attend classes in person.

Very pretty pages, and really good and inspiring ideas. I especially like the 2-3 pencils one and will definitely try that. Thanks.

While you posted tutorials of the miniature book, I colored my full-sized copy. I remember how freeing it was to hear you give me permission NOT to draw or fill in on the pages. I'm barely coloring, and not ready to draw. I'm a retired teacher and I always follow directions - always. I felt a little guilty by leaving those bits blank; but not guilty enough to go back and draw yet.

I did fill them in on one of my copies of the larger sized book, but I find drawing stressful so it completely defeats the object of working in the book, so I just did not do it!

I rehomed my copy of miniature enchanted forest because it was just too small for me.. neither my eyes or my hands were having a good time. I did do the front inside cover though, I had planned to do it in order front to back, and it actually worked just fine even with the weird smooth finish... I can't remember 100% but I'm pretty sure it was Prisma... I didn't have many other brands back then. I actually had an easier time with that than I did with the paper inside. Just FYI if you decide you want to color it in the future. PS you also missed the ladybug on the page with the orange berries... you are going to have to have a "color the bugs" coloring day. I think it's cute that you miss stuff, it's kind of a bonus when watching.. "is she going to find it?" .. and then I get a little thrill when you do "yes!". LOL.

The most foolproof ink tool I've found is a dotting tool. I say "tool" because you can't write with it, but you can do very nice dots and short lines for accents. It's a handle with a metal pin with a ball on the end... like an old fashioned sewing pin. You dip the ball in the ink. You really can't get into trouble with it because it only holds a tiny amount of ink at a time, you can buy various sizes of the tool (often they come with two sizes each, one on each end). The key to it is knowing when to reload. If you reload each time all your dots will be the same size, if not they will be progressively smaller. The progressive dots are great for stars, patterns, etc. Lines will start thicker at one end and taper to a thinner line at the other end (similar to a comma stroke), which makes them look more "flowy". Another option you may want to try is a glass or wooden pen.. they are stiff and don't hold as much ink as a standard dip pen, and are less finicky, you can also try a simple toothpick or skewer. You also may want to try acrylic paint (I would suggest the little bottles of crafting paint, Americana/Ceramcoat/Decoart/Plaid are all popular brands here in the US). It's more user friendly than ink because of the texture, it's thicker and less likely to just run all over. For little stuff like that you can just work out of the lid with no palette needed, quick and easy. It's also cheaper and comes in hundreds of colors, won't bleed through the paper, and is water soluble. Just like Posca... but I've never had it bleed like that, I think Posca does it because it is extremely thinned and/or has some kind of medium added to flow through the pens.

Thank you, my dip pen is made of wood but the nib is huge so it takes on a lot of ink at a time. I think the dotting tool sounds really good, thank you

Beautiful work! Always amazed at how much you get colored!
Do you think Johanna will ever make any other books miniature? I love coloring in the smaller versions when I am short on time or just overwhelmed with a larger page.

Thank you. Johanna was asked that question recently on a live and she explained that Secret Garden and Enchanted forest were with a different publisher and so it is not something that she is planning with her other books. Personally I would love a book this size with less detailed pictures in. Like her small victories.
