Sadly this is not a balanced view of divorce. Many Christian women are escaping abusive marriages and experiencing life saving divorce. The Bible is clear about divorce being a God given option in abuse, adultery and abandonment. God cares more for the individuals in the marriage than for the institution of marriage itself. Let’s not have a perspective of idolatry where we elevate marriage above the safety and mental health of wives and children! 😢

Life saving divorce is a loss but instead of grief there’s relief and peace and safety. It’s only a loss of the dream of what the abusive partner wasn’t. It’s a gaining of your voice and sense of self. Abusive marriage is not an relationship or marriage issue, it’s a behavioral problem. This distinction is vital and isn’t often made in Christian circles. Let’s start holding abusers accountable for their sin and stop shaming their victims for getting safe.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback. We wholeheartedly agree that abusive marriages are not merely relationship issues but serious behavioral problems. This distinction is vital, and your point about not shaming victims but holding abusers accountable is very important.
Our episode aimed to share an individual’s journey and perspective on how divorce impacted his mental health.
