I own a tegu, as long as you can afford to feed them and have enough space for them, they are AMAZING pets. they actually like human affection (captive bred) mine is a male and he loves having his cheeks scratched. he's a little over 5 feet
I had 2 of them, great pets, feeding them isn't too expensive. They will eat just about anything. I fed mine mostly scrambled eggs with other supplements mixed in. Fortunately I have a local vet who is really good with these critters and he helped us keep them in great health even into old age. Biggest challenge is space. They need a lot of it. We actually converted a room in the house to a tegu house...
I just got my first Argentine Black and White tegu (Carlos) and he's awesome. He's already super chill and after the first week of having him, was totally comfortable with being handled. Just a got 125g tank for him but will be building an 8x4x4 enclosure in about a year probably depending on how fast he grows. Out of all the reptiles I own, I would have to say he's already become my favorite.
They make absolutely AMAZING pets. If I could I would own a million of them. My Pubba sleeps on my chest and tummy every single night. He makes my life so full of magic, love, and wonder. Idk what I would do without him!
Tegus can become extremely docile with regular handling my local reptile shop used to have a couple and we used to handle them after closing time complete puppy dogs this pair were but I would not have ever liked to get on the wrong side of them.
They are indeed good pets, if u raise them good its like a dog, only a dog that needs a huge terrarium with heat lights and UVB lights and some more weird stuff

I was at a reptile show in Cleveland once, and I got to pet a Tegu that was raised from birth by humans. It was really cool. His name was Romeo. Just thought I would share my experience lol
Tegus actually make great pets so long as people take the time to research how to care for one. They need a TON of space (like an entire room in your house) and will eat just about anything. You can also target and clicker train them. My friend has one and she trained him to recognize a red disk as a sign of food. When she holds it up and shows it to him, he knows it's feeding time. He's also super cuddly and good with people. The only reason I don't have one (yet) is because I don't have the space for one. Once I get the room, I'm planning on getting one. It's also important to get them when they are young. They do bond with their owners. An adult one is less likely to bond with you and may not show as much affection as a raised one would.
Love this! Once you have the space for them they are GREAT! Mine is currently in the Master Bedroom with an 8X4X4 terrarium which is the MINIMUM size for these animals.

@@ThePerson-gr7rf when they are captive bred, and the effort is put in to make them trust you, you can let them go throughout your house. They are amazing animals when cared for correctly.
They don't even need to be raised from babies- my tegu's a former Florida feral (actually from the Homestead ag land breeding population, the one featured in this video) who lived wild for about a year before I adopted her. She's a total sweetheart- eats out of my hand, likes to be held, is super chill and seems to appreciate snuggling, and follows me around the house. She's never tried to bite me or any other human. They're cool lizards, even though they are invasive as heck.
its cool though 1. That would cost thousands of dollars. Who would pay for it? 2. They're unfamiliar with the area and would likely struggle, if not die. 3. The countries that have these animals typically already have an abundance, and don't really want nor need any more. 4. Killing is quicker, more practical, and safer than bagging and possibly injuring yourself from a dangerous animal.

daz yeah for mine what I do is he stays in his 8x4x4 while I’m not home, and if he has already gone to the bathroom, I open one of the doors on his cage so he can go wherever he would like, and go back in his cage when he wants. That’s kinda what you gotta do.
That David Jackson you just have to be fast. Go out looking early in the morning, as animals are starting to bask. I've caught tons of iguanas, so it's not impossible haha.
Coyote if you are reading this I really like your videos. I think it would be cool if you explored for some crazy poisonous mushrooms 🍄. It would be different, but cool!
GreckoLogan Vlogs mostly PETA activists and people who didn’t like him handing the animal over into captivity there is a group of people who thinks that he is an animal abuser
Thank you so much for not releasing the animal back into the wild. Sometimes it takes a bigger/better heart to get rid of invasive species than it does to let them go. Don't get me started on cats... 'house' cats are so bad for the environment it's unbelievable.
Thanks for that... yes doing invasive animal episodes is tough because they do not belong in the environment...so we always make sure to find a place that will take the animals in without destroying them, ultimately they become educational ambassadors.
At least the tegu out competes the cats. One of the most popular explanations for why the tegu are here is the same as the burmese pythons: Hurricane Andrew leveled several warehouses filled with exotic animals for the pet trade. How many are there? We think more than there are pythons -- they were not as common in the early 90's so the number released was rather low but they have the ability to travel long distances and actively hunt for food and they can brumate which means the winter doesn't kill off good chunks of the population like with the pythons. Experts that I've listened to believe that the python population has leveled out because the winters are too rough on them and native predators are figuring out how to eat more babies -- everything eats snakes in south florida. The biggest problem with the tegu is just how much food they eat. A python will eat once every few weeks if it is lucky where as a tegu will eat an entire nest of eggs every couple days. One tegu can wipe out a whole generation of wading birds or alligators in a week. But nobody talks about tegu because they aren't "scary" like snakes.
Samuel Martin it's because the Tegu is an invasive species. They don't belong in South Florida and are damaging the ecosystem, endangering the indigenous species. Yes, the lizard was already there and out in the wild, but it shouldn't be, and so they relocate it to research. It'd better then what some people do, which is kill invasive species because they are invasive. What they do is good for the ecosystem and I will not say they are doing wrong but is just rather saddening to think about.
Tegus actually make great pets if you're willing to take good care of them. They're more active than your regular lizards and incredibly smart. Like scaly dogs. They do require a good, abundant and balanced diet to grow properly, but they will eat just about anything. I wouldn't have them in a small apartment and they cannot be caged like other lizards. They're goofballs, though, very affectionate.
Ever see the population of iguana's in South Florida? Like the iguana, they make good pets until people get tired of them and there is a point that no shelter wants to take them. Which will be put down by the shelter anyway. And owners are afraid to put them down so they release them instead. Tegu and Iguana's can live up to 2 decades, and there are a few owners committed to that. Why not ban it like they did with snakeheads
Lavar's Balls Well its pretty much like a dog, but then again so many people don't take propercare of dogs or cats and still own them leading to a ridiculous number of them being put down every year.
They aren't good pets unless the one buying them is an experienced reptile keeper. They get larger than most people think they will, and that's usually what leads to their release into the wild.
@@ryanmadaris6940 Just got my own yesterday even as a baby you can tell they are extremely intelligent. One definitely has to know what they are doing owning one.
I absolutely love Tegus and one of my goals is to have an Argentine Tegu as a pet. They can be great animals and are very smart. Old episode but still amazing
It's common for people to kill invasive species, especially when they're large in numbers (I believe they kill many constrictors in the everglades whenever possible as to try and control the population since they don't belong)
Leena Vlogs I actually took part in hunting the over populated coyotes in WV 5 years ago. It is a necessary thing to do to keep the environment in check.

It's a male you can tell by his jowls.
Very cool! :) my dad talked to me about florida once but he didn't mention these lizards.
Nice dude!
Thanks! Have you been to florida before?
No, but I plan on going once my dad gets off my back.
Do you know the charges for murder? If I do it, i'll need a partner ;)

When I show my tegu this he went back in his cage
Please tell me it’s not really a cage
I let him freerome
Stfu
daz yeah for mine what I do is he stays in his 8x4x4 while I’m not home, and if he has already gone to the bathroom, I open one of the doors on his cage so he can go wherever he would like, and go back in his cage when he wants. That’s kinda what you gotta do.
Theres a lady who brings a tegu into the pet store i work at named Sam. I love Sam!! They really are like puppies when raised and handled correctly.
Hey u got to number 3 on trending NICE JOB!!!

"Reptilian Invaders in Florida!
" sounds like something you would see in an old sci-fi movie.
How to you catch these things. I live in southern Florida and it is impossible to catch any large lizards like iguanas.
That David Jackson you just have to be fast. Go out looking early in the morning, as animals are starting to bask. I've caught tons of iguanas, so it's not impossible haha.
That David Jackson you gotta be faster man I've had to remove a tegu from under the car before and they are some fiesty critters
That David Jackson just get a fishing net with a long handle
Snag em with a lure

Coyote if you are reading this I really like your videos. I think it would be cool if you explored for some crazy poisonous mushrooms 🍄. It would be different, but cool!

Coyote: Gets mawled by lion, gets arm ripped off by dinosaur, gets badly poisoned by a snake.
Mark: You ok?
Tegus are popular. If raised from youth, they become very dog-like. And are very fond of their owners.
You missed one at 1:52 it's kind of hard to see it's in the bottom left corner
Yasss trending. Go coyote pack!
What's up with Florida and invasive species.
Round 1: Alligators
Round 2: Burmese Python
Round 3: Tegus
i dont think alligators are invasive species of Florida
How do you get dislikes. Your the best.
GreckoLogan Vlogs ...probably the geckos over at Geico
GreckoLogan Vlogs You're
Doge Challenger ... amazing how often we could remind the “you’re, your, their, there and they’re” people which ones to use. Sheesh
scott williams The most embarassing thing about it is that most people who do it wrong are native speakers.
Mitochondriac the animal was already in the wild i don't get why he didn't just let it go back we're it was he only held it for a few minutes
TheHMinnow thanks i understand now😁
Tegus actually make great pets if you're willing to take good care of them.
WE LOVE LIZARDS 🦎

i disagree with that they arent good for pets. Maybe educate the people on why NOT TO RELEASE them into the wild.
Like large iguanas - it seems the key to good pet status is regular handling.
Old episode but still amazing
notice how the footsteps in the intro are in the beat
lizard be careful
I was watching a show called swamp wars on tv and a women shot a tagu (the lizard he caught in the video)
Leena Vlogs I know that what they do might seem cruel but it has to be done!
jdy fjgj yes
Leena Vlogs it had to be done to make everything stable
My tegu was relatively aggressive when I got him. Now all he wants to do is snuggle up next to me. Best pet I’ve ever owned
Well done 👍 you made it on the trending
