Search And Rescue Drone Backpack Setup

One of the questions I'm asked the most is: "What do you carry with you on Drone SAR missions?" So here is my basic setup for Drone SAR missions out in the bush. Being able to safely launch and fly in any terrain while also keeping your gear protected is key, and you've got to keep your pack light to boot. This isn't the definitive way to do it, but it's what works for me.

What types of solar chargers, portable chargers, & Wi-Fi hotspot so you use or recommend?

I'm planning to do a field test on several different makes and models of field charging equipment soon. As for what I use in this video, I'll shoot you a message!
As for wifi Hotspot, I use my phone. This works great when there's cellular data available, but obviously not so well when there's not.

WiFi Hotspot: I did many hours of flying over the weekend streaming to DJI FlightHub2 via StarLink wifi and cradle point cellular backed wifi, both worked awesome.

Only issue if it’s for SAR where would you carry additional SAR items. I have a K9 team with flankers and I’m looking to use one of them to carry the drone but I think they also may need a minimum of supplies. The goal is not sustained flight but using the drone to check spots my K9 can’t get to.

What is your opinion about the "Countering CCP Drones Act" passed by the House which would effectively ban DJI drones from operating within the United States if signed into law? Can you speak to why you chose DJI over other available options and what impact (if any) it could have on SAR operations?

I hope it doesn't pass. I do believe we need to take cybersecurity seriously and can understand not using them federally, but they are far and away the most cost effective and intuitive unmanned aerial tools we have at our disposal now.
I chose DJI because when I was researching what drone to get for SAR it came down to a DJI Mavic 3T and a Skydio. DJI laid the price out front and center, while Skydio had me email to schedule a call, and when I finally got a call back the *starting* price I was quoted at was over twice the Mavic 3T's. Since I was spending my own money on this Drone, I went with the Mavic which has performed flawlessly. I additionally spoke with multiple different agencies and looked up reviews between the two, and overwhelmingly everyone favored the Mavic.
I sincerely hope the bill doesn't pass, as it will essentially ground my entire fleet and render tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment worthless if they somehow geofence the entire country against using DJI drones. Additionally many SAR, Fire, Law Enforcement, and Public Service organizations will suffer the same fate and lose extremely useful technology we've come to rely on to find missing persons, analyze fires, and locate suspects among many other jobs. I think this bill is an extremely short sighted attempt to stick it to the CCP (who I am absolutely no fan of) which will backfire immensely if it passes.
