This could be great for quick resupplies of wildland firefighters out on the line. As long as there's no other aircraft in the area of course.

My DJI matrice 350 will show the wind direction on the remote so I can move upwind of a dropzone.
Sportsman’s guide has French 60” parachutes on clearance right now. They work great, especially if you sew up the 4 top slots.

I will be looking into those immediately, thanks for the heads up!

@@NorthWindAerial If you buy them you’ll notice it has a center hanging suspension cord along with the outer ones. I removed that center one and it drops slower, esp with the 4 top vents sewed shut. It’ll make sense when you get it in hand.

I’ve worked on one very similar, and if you take your parachute deployment system and lay it on top of your IFAK and have the parachute come out the side instead of the top it changes the center of gravity

Might need a visualization of how that would be set up. Currently I've got the chute pouch attached to the side since that's where the molle webbing is.

Imagine if you did this with a fix wing

I've been spending a lot of time lately playing an RC Plane simulator learning how to fly fixed wing drones. Building a Search and Rescue fixed wing drone that can carry cargo is a high priority on my list, but I've got to learn how to fly them first 😅

You can work on changing your center of gravity as well by depending on how you load out the contents inside. You should do testing on the contents on where you place them in the best deployment. I live in California if you need any help.

Good idea. I've got some future fun test ideas coming up such as an egg drop test and delivering a friend mimosa fixings. I'll use those tests to play around with the center of gravity.

Duplicated the set up, first deployment worked well, dropped and chute deployment perfect, except I made the string that pulls the parachute a bit too long. after deployment, 100 ft, propwash pulled it into the props, broke two props and came down hard. M30T survived with minor damage to a plastic piece. That thing is tough. Now to replace props, no damage to gimbal. I got lucky this time.

Sorry for not replying with my build list earlier, and really sorry about the crash! My string that pulls the chute is about 2 inches max so there's no way I can get anywhere close to the props. I'll try and get a write up and build list done asap!

Why not just land the drone and drop the kit?

    • @NorthWindAerial

I mention in the video a couple times about this being designed for when you can't lower your drone to a safe altitude to release the cargo. I.e. losing visual line of sight, trees, or RC signal degradation. Ideally you would be able to drop below 20 or so feet to safely release the cargo, but often times you can't especially during SAR missions in mountainous terrain.
