Worked at a ski resort back in 79 here in Michigan. They also had a few Tuckers with the 318. Been ice fishing up in Canada and they use similar machines with 318 engine to take people out to the ice fishing huts. Bad @ss machines!
What an awesome machine! That interior looks really good. The whole thing looks really good. If you can get parts or have them made or cross ref. with other parts, that is definitely worth restoring.
Seen plenty of Sno-Cats but this'll be my first peep at a Sno-Kitten, and danged if it ain't cute. A virtual beer 🍺 to you dude for rescuing this lil' kitty. Good lad.
Worked in the high Arctic. In the 70s …. Ran a larger snow cat … lot of fun to operate … it was a diesel… so cold sometimes…had to take a propane tiger torch… to heat the fuel .. it would turn to jelly … had to let them run 24/7 …. … interesting times ! .. lol. I am still here !
Cool old machine. I work for a local Water department. We had a old Snow cat our Hydrolagy crew used to go up into our canyons. It had a four cylinder Ford Pinto engine. If you have low gears you won't go fast but don't need a big motor. It got the job done.😁
That would make for a awesome mtn vehicle here in west Virginia for the winter season if nothing else to get from home to bottom of the mtn to the truck lol
I love it! Seeing old Oregon made stuff out in the wild. Made light with a bunch of aluminum and purposely light duty drivetrain parts to keep the weight down. Thanks for sharing.
I learned to drive stick in drivers Ed in the 1980's in a four cylinder Ford Pinto. It was a P.O.S. but I learned the basics .it wasn't my 1st that was a 1939 Ford tractor. A great machine. 😁
A charming little mog :-) has a lot of character, we just dont see stuff like that in the UK. What its doing with an old British Anglier engine I don't know lol, I guess it was small enough to fit the chassis at the time and it was handy so it went in :-p
Lots of Ford industrial four cylinder engines from the UK were used in generators, welders, skid steers ,and forklifts in North America up to the 90s when Asian stuff started to take over. (sometimes propane fueled) 1600 Kent Cortina motors, were used and Lima built 2300 Pinto motors. They were the right size for the job and the Ford dealer network meant that parts were easy to come by. Anglia motor used because it's from before the Cortina was built. Also the little Fords were water cooled, lots of little industrial motors were air cooled.at that time. Water cooling makes it easy to heat the control cab.
It's only 10 race horsepower, it is worked on the engines bore for tax purposes, it would be closer to 28 or 30 bhp. It's a great little machine, thanks for the video.
The engine family is the Kent engine. 1 liter, thru 1.6 liter displacement, they are used in industrial applications also. Needs some carb work, it would be fine.
Neat little machine. Looks to me like it would be great if it was re-powered with a little diesel engine. Like a Volkswagen TDI maybe. Thanks for sharing the video with us!
Diesel isn't that good for cold weather. A more modern engine would require a lot more ancillaries. High pressure pumps, larger fuel tanks, alternator, etc. The Ford Anglia engine is really simple to work on. Though parts are starting to get harder to find even in Britain. Might be worth seeing if a British Leyland ' A ' series from an original mini or Morris 1000 would fit as there are more of these available and pattern part are still being made. Additionally it would had a tiny bit more power
@@robertwillis4061 Diesel is fine for cold. Run glow plugs, winter fuel, and maybe an intake manifold heater for the -35 days. Down that low, battery performance is your limit th-cam.com/video/mADinrDbkkY/w-d-xo.html
Yes it does, especially when it’s running well. You should check out my latest video on it. It’s called “Tucker Sno-Kitten Christmas tree.” Thanks for commenting!
Carb accelerator pump is non op or plugged and or power valve is plugged or bad. At any rate the carb needs to be gone through the way it sounds to me.
@@Ashpenaz. no problem. That's why it wants to stall all the time, the carburator I think. Also the starter drive or Bendix in the starter as us old timers often call it, is letting go. It's a one way clutch on the little starter drive gear. That's why it goes zing when you are trying to restart it. Its kind of a cool old rig tho! It just needs a little tlc.
I used to work on snocats.... That one is pretty cool. The closest I have worked on to that is a Thiokol Imp. Used a Ford V4 Cardinal engine. All the others were much larger and used either a Ford 300 6 cylinder or V8's.
Wow, a small 1000 cc Anglia motor. Just goes to show how gearing can make a difference. Even so, that tiny engine moving that heavy body around plus a skid sled amazing.
..... In the very early '70's, I was in the US Army, as a member of M60-A1 main battle tanks Company in Bamberg, Germany... Trained at Fort Knox... Anyway, this snow cat, though smaller and lighter, has the same track features that my tanks had... Such as being able to do what's called 'neutral steer' ... Where you place it in neutral, and 'spin' left or right... Am I right ? All tracked vehicles share similar handling characteristics ... Anyway, I enjoyed seeing your mini tank ... 😁 ... Please make some more clips ... Regards
awesome! A bit me would like to see it fully refinished but I think the larger part would like to just hit it with clear coat and save all that patina. Engine sounds great on video.
Is this still near Steamboat? When I lived there there was a ski shop that had several vintage sno cats on display out front including one of these. There was also one nearby in Hayden.
1071cc side valve engine........needed a re-bore or re-hone every 30,000 miles.....valves needed grinding every 20,000 miles. forgot to mention the main bearings which were made of bread, or clay or something....???
I’ll bet in 60 more years that little snow kitten will still be running . Try to make anything built today last that long !
Haha! So true!
Today's junk yards are full of new cars.
"your subscription to "fuel pump" has expired, please call your dealer"
Needs tuned up
Built today it would be 1/2 plastic
I have absolutely no use for it, but I want one. 😁
What a cool thing. 👍
Thanks!
I would put a blade on it to push snow
Itd be fun to try to find a set of rubber padded skid steer tracks for it, then you could run it all year not just the winter.
@@mikezanassi207 That would be a smart plan.
My husband's grandmother had a Ford Anglia and in the 60s and 70s they travelled around the south of England in it and it never broke down.
That's really neat!
What a cute and funny vehicle, thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I will tell my uncle that you think his vehicle is cute.
I worked at Cannon Mt. in Franconia Notch, making snow. They 2 or 3 Tucker snow cats with 318s , excellent machines

HAHA... I Love this mini monster Tank!
Thanks for sharing & Greetings from Germany🤓🤓🤓
Cool machine!
I hauled one from Wisconsin to northern New Hampshire last year for a vintage machine show
The Easter seals show in colebrook?
That’s really interesting! Thanks for the comment!
Having lived around southern oregon for the last 25 years, it's always cool to see a mention of someplace I'm at often.
Definitely!

I almost bought a tiny Bombardier tracked snow machine with a Ford 4 cylinder Pinto motor. Gotta stay light.
Gold Solid what a pic. Way to the moon nice 👌 yous a lucky genius 😀 stay healthy Good Luck 👍

Lol I'm in Charleston and sissionsville. This would be great for coal river ice fishing. If the ice breaks, who cares lol

Wow what a handy little beast. Looks like it could go anywhere.
I love it! It revs so high, yet goes so slow lol.
Very kool , glad you got it running

Awesome 👍 Merry Christmas 🎅
Thanks!
Nice video. I enjoy when things like that are given a new life. And letting us know the cause of why it stopped and the fix was appreciated.
Thank you!
What a great little unit thank you so much for sharing this video
Wow thats pretty neat! I love seeing the big full size ones, never saw a small one like that before😉👍
Never thought I would ever see anouther one of these in my lifetime, man were these things fun when they were going good
Sure are!
She’s perfect..😍😍😍
Never seen such a charming snowmobile !
It’s pretty neat.
Bloody marvellous, love one to refurbish !. Regards from the UK.
Thank you! Your comment is appreciated.
In West Yellowstone there used to be early snow machines driven by a propeller like swamp buggies.
That there is cool, A bit of maintenance and I see a bunch of fun being had with that !
Oh yeah!
What a neat vehicle! I definitely have to build a 3D model of that.
That thing is badass
Could have used one of those around here today, -7° with 50mph winds and blizzard conditions!
Very cool, Tucker Snow cats is only a couple of miles from my house!
That’s awesome!
I THINK IT'S A MAGNIFICENT LIL MACHINE
Thank you for watching the video!
Can I have it? I have one kidney, half a liver, one leg and one arm to trade.
That little guy is cool asf i love those little track machinery i would drive that thing all the time!! Does the thing have a good heater in it ?
Such a cool looking machine 10 hp LOL what a mini beast

It's very unique for sure!
What a neat plowmobile.
Beastly little girl. It did pretty good first time out. Good to see you got the track figured out. That thing looks like it'll go anywhere.
Thanks for the comment!
That's way cool
Would love to have one of those in indiana
Oh yeah!
I'm guessing that the one at Ski Haus' gas station is from around the same time frame.
Probably.
A repower with a Kubota or Yanmar 3cylinder 20hp diesel would be awesome 👍.
Beautiful machine.
Thanks for the comment!
Such a cool old rig, wonder what the main use was.
Cool as Heck!
I'm Mc'lovin it!
I'd like to see more of this, its a really neat little rig, what are your long term plans for it?
Thanks! My uncle is a snow cat mechanic. So I think that he just likes to keep this one around for fun.
Awesome!😃
Wow cool lil machine I'd love to have that!

Damn , that is an old one. I bet you can still find a few of those in Siberia.
It’s very old. Thanks for watching! You should check out my latest video on it.
I like them big soviet ones too
I would love to find one to rescue!

Wow, have seen photos of these before and always thought they were like truck cab sized!
Haha! Yeah, they're tiny. It's really funny to watch two guys try to fit into one of these!
Way too cool!! I want a sno kitten!!
Very cool!
I could use one right about now. It would be my 'round town car 😁
Haha! You'd get some attention that way!

The 10hp rating is an old British taxation class thing. The 1172 side valve engine actually makes about 25 horsepower!
Love it

the deer for 5 miles ran in panic
That's funny. I didn't even see that!

Nice.
