While that does sound like something beaver boy would come up with, Terry himself has explained it differently. Prichard was the one that came up with Terry coming out of a box and then he asked Terry if he wanted to do something else or bring something with him only for Terry himself to come up with Chainsaw Charlie on the spot. At least thats what Terry wrote in his book.
As even the folks in the cheapest seats of MSG started chanting "Terry" within 10 seconds of him sawing himself outside the box with a pair of nylons over his face.
