Thanks for the react video to my 10 year old video haha
I think it's criminal that Crazy Chocobo from xiii-2 hasn't been requested yet lol. Love seeing some xiii love great ost from all 3 games
the way the mixer for the Caius theme video blended them was amazing tbh. made it feel like a big story.
Caius Ballad, the main antagonist of XIII-2, has several different themes throughout the game amid his various encounters. I’ve said this for years personally, but he was the next Sephiroth for me in terms of musical aesthetics. His main theme is that funeral march esque theme that was at the start of that mega mic and there is good reason for it. Caius has lived for centuries thanks to the Heart of Chaos that was bestowed to him by the Goddess Etro after his unyielding devotion in his role of Guardian to the Seeress Yeul who has always died young due to constantly seeing visions of the future.
After watching every incarnation of Yeul die again and again, he decided to kill the Goddess to unleash Chaos into the world, as doing so would halt time and stop this cycle of reincarnation. So that’s why there are so many themes with the name chaos in them, due to how closely tied he is to it.
Couldnt have said it better myself man. Favorite villain hands down
You can tell it's Hamauzu by those open and long notes/chords. It's really effective at setting the mood.
All of the Caius/Chaos songs start with the lyrics "Dea Mortis, iuravi carissimam servaturum," or "Goddess of Death, I vowed I'd protect the dearest."
Followers of Chaos is just one of the other songs with a little slow chant of the main line in front of it.
Man, I love that mix myself. The main reason is put up all together like that is beccause it's all the variations of "Caius theme" back to back kinda. Caius has indeed A LOT to do with "chaos" and is my favorite antagonist of all time in FF. (And the reason there is starting with the credits I think it's because is the most somber ones to start with for the mix itself)
Not only is he a top tier character, his themes are something else too. Unseen Abyss is one of my favorite final boss themes.
Caius, great character, great themes. Unseen Abyss and Caius's theme are among my favorite FF themes.
Sulyya Springs is the theme for a very small specific section when traveling between two major story sections, it kinda comes out of nowhere and its very pretty and calm compared to the more grandiose themes in the surrounding areas.
The gorgeous cello is what made it stand out for me, its a shame it's so short and doesnt feature more of it.
@@MagnyusG sullyya springs should've been longer
Unseen Abyss is my favorite out of that Caius theme mix. I dont care what anyone says but 13-2's final boss was one of the most hype final bosses out of any ff game and the music elevates it imo. Also, Lightning Returns is 13-3 (as in it's called Lightning Returns but its the 3rd ff13 game).
Someone has been playing Queen's Blood lately...
Going to be blunt, Caius is, in my opinion, one of the franchise's best villains, only beaten out by Emet-Selch from XIV. He's well written, executed, and is successful. Your heart breaks for him when you learn his story, WHY he's doing what he's doing.
XIII-2 is a great game. XIII gets more hate than it deserves (it was made during a time where almost all JPRGs were linear 'hallways'). I recommend the XIII trilogy to everyone. Its alot better than people make it out to be. Yes, the games have their flaws, and some are tough to explain away or ignore, but I think its well worth.
Absolutely agree!
Based comment. Caius is criminally underrated as a villain
Hell yeah, we stan FFXIII & XIII-2
Agree with Caius, big disagree with XIII. Even on replays it is just awful
I think it was around the garden battle where I suddenly sat up while playing XIII-2 and went "oh, wait, Caius is INTERESTING", he really was one of the best parts of the 13 trilogy overall.
FF13 was the first game to introduce actual live recordings, all the games prior used synthetic instruments for the "orchestral" tracks. Also mixed a ton of synth in with the orchestral. My personal favorite soundtrack of the three.
FF13 came out in 2009. It was strictly Hamauzu. I think he hasn't done an entire soundtrack solo before or since?
FF13-2 came out in 2011, and had multiple other ff composers help out. Its soundtrack sounds much different from 13, but theres a few key similarities. It has alot more "rock" to it, while keeping the synth and orchestra. I think you've heard the most songs from this game, like the gilgamesh remix and a few others.
FF13 lightning returns (aka ff13-3 or ff13LR) came out in 2013 and leans heavily into hints of synth/edm the first two games had. Almighty Bhunivelze, the song you mentioned, was from this game, as a callback to the first game's style.
FF13LR is by far the least popular game, and even fans of 13 dont really think about this game too much.
TLDR, each game has its own style, and most of what youve heard is from the sequels. Ironically, I'd say the first game has the most popular music, and 13-2 is more liked for the overall package. I think theres a good amount of the original on The List though.
Hamauzu was the sole composer for a few SaGa games before he did FF13
@@xman17 good to know!
Very good answer, explained the things very well. What you said about Lightning Returns being the least popular makes sense, as I and some of my friends used to talk, Lightning Returns felt too much like "fan service", it wasn't necessary at all.
Unseen Abyss is one of the most underrated final boss BGMs out there.
It's just too awesome for this world.
18:30 UUNNF THE DISCO SYNTH I FUCKING LOVE IT WHEN MY FINALFANTASY GOES ALL SCI_FI FUTURISTIC & PAST INTERTWINED!!!!!!
I love XIII, XIII-2 and their soundtracks! I never really got into XIII-3 aka Lightning Returns, but I gotta give it another go after all these years. Rebirth had a lot of XIII type of sounds btw. Ps. it's so funny to notice how much stuff I've overlooked when I first played these as a kid 😂 Like now I hear you say his name might be Caius because it sounds like Chaos and my mind is blown lol. Never crossed my mind. English isn't my first language so I guess I can blame that for not noticing it back when I was younger😂
Interesting to hear an ethereal location theme from XIII with a character/boss theme medley from the sequels. XIII-2's soundtrack is one of my favs for its variety, with a lot of guest artists like Joelle, Origa and Shootie HG, while also maintaining a lot of motifs across songs for certain characters.
22:25 This was Omega's Battle Theme, a song for a XIII-2 DLC boss that was included as a pre-order, completely unrelated to the previous songs that all involved Caius (who is certainly related to Chaos but not pronounced the same way).
Not quite, it's actually the Coliseum theme. Omega has the same theme as a section in Academia.
XIII-2 really has tons of great themes. Caius' got the best ones.
@@Vayne_Solidor It's literally called "Omega's Battle Theme (Bonus Track)" on the official soundtrack CDs that I own, even though it is used for parts of the Coliseum outside that one fight.
@@Maxbeedo2Threat Level Omega is the battle theme for Omega. It's on the OST.
@@Maxbeedo2Guess that was different when it was a preorder bonus?
I recently fought it, thats why I remember it.
Oh and one last addition: in the OST, its no longer called Secret Track. The name is Perpetual Battlefield. It's on Spotify
The XIII Trilogy has a great and varied soundtrack. One of the best from the franchise, in my opinion.
There is a lot of emphasis on percussion in the FFXIII-2 ost.
the heart of chaos and unseen abyss songs do actually play RIGHT next to eachother in the game- heart of chaos is the song that plays in the second last boss fight, and unseen abyss is the last bsos fight, so they do kind of lead in to eachother. that is intentional
Queen's Blood theme in the background hell yeah
been waiting for this, actually been playing ff13-2 again after 10 years
Nice choice for the Queen's Blood theme in the background 👌🏻
I'm someone that actually likes the FF13 trilogy, but I think the one thing most people can agree on is that the music is pretty damn good. It has a surprising number of tracks with vocals compared to other FF games. FF13-2 is my favourite though, both in terms of gameplay and soundtrack.
Nice, you got the MEGA version 😊
Caius is the Main Antagonist of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and these were all the songs that play for him during the game. Only the very first song you heard wasn't from XIII-2.
Caius' Theme is amazing.
13s music was, at the time of release, one of the many (mostly unwarranted or exaggerated) criticisms bc people thought it such a dramatic shift from previous ffs (and it is in a lot of good ways), but has aged well in the community. 13 and it’s trilogy had, like all ff music, great ost. I personally remember being very happy with the direction from 13 to 13-2, bc 2 was my favorite in the trilogy and the music was part of it. Sadly, I was never a fan of caius. I still can’t explain it
To make it clear, the Credit themes at the beginning are very similar to Caius's character theme. That's why its at the beginning.
Chaotic Guardian is a recurring battle/boss theme, while Heart of Chaos and Unseen Abyss belong in the finale.
The Secret Track is called Perpetual Battlefield. The Coliseum is home to optional bosses. There is ZERO reason why its in here.
Chaotic Guardian is used only during the Noel VS Caius and Lightning VS Caius.
Otherwise, Caius Theme is his main battle theme.
The fact that Caius has the same voice actor as Weiss from NieR 😎
He also voiced Kain Highwind (FFIV).
13-2 has such a good OST it's slept on, it also has alot of alternate versions of songs because they change during combat to more aggressive versions
It's Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (basically XIII-3). XIII-2 was kind of an afterthought which concludes in Lightning Returns. Caius was the main antagonist from XIII-2.
XIII has the best soundtrack in the franchise. Fight me
Stand on business as the kids say.
*FF7 Rebirth enters the arena*
Considering how much I revisit XIII & -2, I'm inclined to agree.
I agree. Hamauzu is my favorite composer.
While I remember enjoying XIII's soundtrack, although maybe XIII-2 more... I must say that I barely remember any of it off the top of my head... Except maybe Crazy Chocobo lol.
I don't know... It's certainly good in many ways... I enjoyed some of the tracks enough to buy the soundtrack and rate them highly, but they didn't get stuck in my head quickly or for a very long time, like many of the others... This may not be directly because of quality though... I don't know... Still, it feels unnatural to agree that it's the best in the franchise...
Caius is the most recurrent antagonist in the franchise, you have to fight multiple with a different number of rounds.
You fight him in the prologue during two phases, then you fight him three different times during the story and finally, you have to fight him as the final in four phases, with his final form being a dragon who summons two other dragons.
Ruler of time and space is the theme for the first two phases, Heart of Chaos is the theme of the third phase and Unseen Abyss is the final phase's theme.
There are three alternative fights in the post-game for the ones you do during the main story and a DLC one, Caius having around XIII phases.
Great reaction video and all, but you really make me want to play some more Queens Blood!
"Full pun intended" Brings a tear to my eye.
I keep telling you you'll enjoy 13. don't listen to the haters. I'm judging it based on you and you alone. will you love it like 7 and 9? who knows? probably not. but you definitely won't regret giving 13 a try. the music? up your alley. the gameplay? you'll most definitely enjoy it. the story.... well... it's serviceable if you don't think too hard about it. the characters... are probably the most polarizing part of the game.
I mean, I think the battle system was somewhat polarising, especially at the time... And while the characters were pretty polarising (well some were anyway), I would argue that the linearity and restriction was the biggest point of contention... To be fair though, I think FF10 was pretty equally linear... I think the bigger issue was that it didn't hide it well at all... I don't think there were any areas that were much more than a stage background design... When you get into the sidequest stuff, it's pretty much nothing to do with the world and story... At least not in a particularly engaging way...
This said, I still personally enjoyed it in general... I wouldn't say it was a bad game or anything... The problem was probably mainly that it was a Final Fantasy game and didn't really deliver Final Fantasy... Ah well... I do think he'd generally enjoy the game and the music regardless... I feel a bit odd recommending that he actually play it though lol.
It's a shame, you didn't have the full version of the secret track 21. 😅
I love ffxIII my sister and i played this all day on the ps3. We both had a crush on snow lol memories 💛
So QB is just the new background BGM then? I'm cool with that, it's pretty catchy.
That 3rd part of Caius' theme was the one they used for his Burst theme in Dissidia (RIP) gonna miss that. Funny enough, I actually don't particularly like him as a character but his aesthetic is awesome and I LOVE his theme.
Also to clarify - Caius is the antagonist of 13-2, and comes back as a minor boss fight in Lightning Returns (or 13-3 if you prefer) and yes, it's a full trilogy that actually has one of the best endings of the franchise frankly (along with the games collectively have outstanding OSTs)
Sadly the 13 trilogy and 11 are currently unavailable on PS4/5.
The last sentence hurts....i love XIII-2
Sulyya Springs buried gold.
Say what you want about FFXIII being linear but the story, combat, and music was amazing
You got bamboozled by your patrons with this unofficial mix but i kinda don't blame them AHAHAHAA. I forget all these songs aren't the same song an it's nice to hear them all at once. They're all about the same character.
I don't why someone requested for these songs to be heard together. They're good, but the first song is just an area theme from XIII, and the mix is a collection of songs related to XIII-2's villain, they have no connection to each other. Also, it's funny that the mix didn't include the normal version of Caius's theme despite it being his actual theme, and the very last song in it wasn't related to him at all and wasn't even complete, I don't know why it was there
The Credit is mostly Caius Theme.
