    I'm following this with interest. I'm an 87 Israeli woman, who walks with a cane. Unfortunately terrorists armed with knives aren't unknown. I did Krav Maga training in my late 60s and early 70s and was pretty confident i could take care of myself. Unfortunately since breaking a hip i walk with a cane. So cane defence is what i practise nowadays. It might just give me a sporting chance in a pinch. Even 1 chance in a 1000 is better than no chance.

    I’m just becoming interested in cane defense. As a 70 year old man with fair agility and good strength I feel this is something I need practice to offset my disadvantage of age.

    Very important to maintain situational awareness and make a habit of keeping people out of your personal space. If anyone other than your mother tries to get closer than a cane-length, that should put you into a high awareness mode.

    UK is so much safer than America. As a student in London decades ago, my flat was burglarized (likely an inside job) but I never felt unsafe on the streets. I'd leave the U.S for the UK now if not too old.

      I think that depends on where you live in the US or UK. I live in a very safe city in Wisconsin and although I like and carry a cane, a handgun is even better. That isn't an option in the UK. Neither is a pocket knife.
      I'll agree parts of big cities around the country aren't safe, but that is a common problem with big cities everywhere.

    I've done a little training in knife defence technique.
    I came to the conclusion that it's virtually impossible to defend yourself against a determined assailant wielding a knife.

      Even with a gun in holster, a knife attack is mortally dangerous

      This is why you wear a stab proof sheath under your shirt that covers your front and back. If you are wearing a long sleeve shirt you can wear a leather bracer to protect your forearms. Motor cycle gloves will protect your knuckles. Just think in terms of how midiviel people protected themselves from knives 600 years ago.

    Very nice to see Callum give the punishment instead of recieving it🤣lol. That was a very encouraging lesson. I always try to bring a gun to a knife fight but the cane is a great back up weapon. Expert knife handlers can still do a lot of damage to you even if you have a gun. I think the cane would be a great diversion in this case👍

      yes as dumb as it sounds gun vs (knife in the right hands) the 21 ft rule is true . do not believe a gun will always save you though my preferred weapon over a knife .

    Aloha Callum! Thank you. I am fairly new to the cane but have played with various sticks, staffs and pole arms as well as various swords ( not an expert l hold titles nor ranks) and various other arts. In all swinging weapons their is centrifugal, centripetal and spiraling energies and forces built by the direction and speed of the cane. You can use that energy to push and pull your body and guide your step.opposite motions build counterweight. Much like ' holding the ball' in Tai Chi. I find l can step more quickly and with greater rooting when l a?llow the cane to help me move. I have some limitations that this helps with too.
    I find the cane to be incredibly apt at this in ways no other swung weapon matches. Play with it, it's like the ocean brah go with th it. Don't fight the cane!
    Love Sons of Cane! Keep it up!

    That's quite a bit of fancy footwork - for a person who might have a mobility issue.
    Ditto for the overhead twirling of the cane - 'with prejudice'... might be difficult for someone using the cane primarily as a mobility or medical device.
    I'm a Senior - don't need a cane but thinking of one; I like the CQB grips, IMO.

    Sorry to quibble, but isn't it better to grip the cane just below the crook for improved control and less chance of bounce back? I know it works for boththe Horizontal strikes and the figure 8, but may be tough with the helicopter. Good video.

    interesting but i dont rate spining the cane if someone has a knife , i think its much better to strike the wrist break it and on the back flow strike the head then keep hitting until its safe to jog on ...

    Hi well done to you for having the guts to get up and do it
    And to try and help people with your cane class. I was very impressed I do believe from what I have learnt from other martial arts including weapons like the staff spinning and helicopter moves can be a bit dangerous for the practitioner if someone rushes you, as once they get to the inner part of your circle they have you by the you know what's so it's best to have some basic jabbing moves with both hands and hard double handed swinging strikes I will say this speed makes up for a hell of a lot . But what I was trying to say is a one-handed spin does not have the same solid wait behind it it's only got the weight of the cane and the speed with which you are spining it where has a double handed strike has the weight of your whole body with the greatest respect you made a wonderful effort and I think you show fantastic potential if you added a couple of the moves I'm describing it would go together really nicely I hope you don't mind me saying keep up the good work respect !

    One advantage that a cane has on a knife, is "reach". So, you have to give yourself the appropriate distance (the length of the cane, or more) to effectively counter a knife attack. There is nothing wrong with running from a knife attacker, and using your cane against him "if" he catches up to you. In fact, from a "legal perspective" (in most countries) if you're fleeing from a knife attack, and then the assailant catches up to you, then you're on more solid legal ground, if you use your cane "after" being chased.

    The problem with cane twirling or even waving it around gives the knife guy time to think and plan his attack. The best thing to do is strike first and let the second guy know you mean business about protecting yourself. You can swing that cane around all you want but for me in a cane fight the family jewels are my primary target if I get close enough. I will still be out of the first man's reach but close enough for his buddy to see him drop to the ground. Once the first guy goes down the second always thinks that dude with the cane is crazy. Now if the two dudes are stoned then the alternating swing between the two is enough to put them down such as the figure eight. Some may disagree and that is fine but it is food for thought and maybe it just might save a life one day.

    • @freelancerider100
      @freelancerider100 ปีที่แล้ว

      Swinging it around is not the answer... keeping it between you and the attacker is the focus

    I have been attacked and was forced to defend myself.. believe me a determined assailant with knife you are in trouble my friend . Helicopter will invite one knife in your rib.. I have trained with nun chukkas knives whips whatever .. I was talking to someome at a party and i use a cane as I have a dropped foot..disability . It's like trying to fight with one foot nailed to the floor. I swung the cane by the crook as hard as I could It didn't even slow the attacker down he came back I hit again did not slow him down then I bowled over shot onto his head giving 10 staples my cane broke I fell to the floor and got the crap kicked out of me breaking both my wrists.. now I am making a cane with bent metal 8 mm rod inside the crook and a 10mm x300mm threaded rod at the bottom .. I want weight when I hit next time. When I hit it must break shoulders and heads .. one shot. The end of my cane is now 30 mm thick..I don't have the means to steam bend

  • @davidwayne9982

    With that side swing going first-- a GOOD knife guy will go in and you're DEAD.. You can NOT move it fast enough for that.. BETTER go up center and nut the guy- and then continue to his head-- multiple strike move-- bone on bone hurts- but hickory on bone-- BREAKS the bone- shatters it.. Done correctly- you WILL win...

    (You already know about the badly muffled sound.). Good run-thru of moves, however videos of street fighting/attacks involve a burly boy rushing the victim at speed and with arms protecting his core and the velocity and bulk/weight is almost certain to overwhelm all normal-size persons with canes or bats. All demos feature an attacker "being nice" and so leave out much of real situations. Video dealing with that would have some savagery or grittiness but be useful.

  • @davidwayne9982
    @davidwayne9982 ปีที่แล้ว

    With a LITTLE DISTANCE , these MIGHT work-- but if the knife guy is ANY good--- you will NOT see it-- you'll be walking along one minute and DEAD or dying the next and NEVER see the knife. THe can will win there-- WITH distance.. but as I said- in REALITY-- you won't see the knife AT ALL--- you're as good as dead. If the person DOES show you-- you MIGHT survive.. (I have several times- but you ALWAYS get cut)..

    0:40 that is not how to hold the knife turn it in reverse with the blade sharp edge out along your wrist and the handle in a fist grip. Therefore you can punch with the handle tip or slash with the blade.
    If you need a demo video I will make one.
    But yes the cane has the distance range.
