You know you're reading an H.P. Lovecraft story when you suddenly realize you're 15+ pages deep into pure architectural descriptions.
You can tell it's George R.R. Martin if you just read pages about the food. It's so prevalent, people have made cookbooks based on the meals explained in his books.
You know its a Playboy magazine because of the informative articles.
🤜🤛 😁
@Alexander Asher haha thats only joking, maybe just a few pages 😄
Read At the Mountains of Madness if you want to see Lovecraft go all out with his descriptions. The descriptions do paint an interesting picture though.
And when it's eldritch and gable-haunted.
“Did not dress and ordered all his food by telephone”
We call that a Tuesday haha
Even more relevant now.
equally apathetic.
Strangely prophetic
Cosmically Horrific
Lol yeah best part
This is Lovecraft's final story before his death in 1937. It makes you wonder if the Haunter of the Dark was really the one who finally did him in for revealing too much...
It was the moth man..... He is watching you right now....... Look behind you
I will belive what you say to be true, in aspect of "it was his last storytelling" and I ad-lib that slightly... (sorry Grammer po po 😅) ever thought he knew it was his last tenticluar tale?
As we belive it was the last of Nobel words of fancy that would Twixt ones inner darkness and bring it to twilight's dawn

That bastard Nyarlathotep took him from us.

I actually named my genestealer cult after “The Church of Starry Wisdom”.
Fulgrim2 is that 40k?
William Brinkley Genesteal HYBRIDS. Genestealers don’t worship worship the Tyranid hive mind they’re part of it.
Yes!
@@josephmoffatt4696 yeah thats what i thought
I love how the name of the Church is Fifthist af
I love the Poe shout-out towards the end - Roderick Usher, of the Fall of the House of Usher. No doubt that Lovecraft greatly admired that tale from the master Poe.
He mentioned him in the mountains of madness too
Your voice is very matter of fact, even when you read these stories. It's like reading a report from an incident and I love it.
I know it’s a 2 year old post but listen to “In The Mountains of Madness” it’s exactly like that.
@@sweatynutlover4827 I know this is a one-year-old post but, check out Blood Meridian there is a character that is just that way all the time. You'll like him.
*OH BOY! ITS 3AM!*
Daniel Bohl The best time to listen to cosmic horror!
Every upload ever
Feels bad
Daniel Bohl I listen to this channel when I’m going to bed. Using REM sleep is when your imagination makes these stories so surreal. I often fall asleep before they end. Rather nice to listen to. Am I a sociopath?
Caleb Johnson or you just want the to your front door I guess that makes some form of sense
*looks at video length*
*no ads*
Bless you, TH-cam has become unwatchable lately.
YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD this is what I've been waiting for I love you man!
One of my favorite youtubers reading my favorite lovecraft story? Has chrismas come early?!
two months early
Christmas just got canceled.
Iä, Iä!
Really. “Christmas”?.... it’s 2019. We say Happy Holidays now. You lovecraftians are all the same.
Christmas, is christmas, but you say happy holidays because there’s about a half dozen holidays celebrated on or almost on the same day.
And about a dozen forgotten ones that should still be celebrated for man’s good will, or should never be recovered for the good will of man...
Why is everyone getting so serious and arguing? I was just making a joke about how much i love the video. Fucking chill
Might I request ‘The Dunwich Horror’?
That story has been done to death. Give him a real challenge, “The Mountains of Madness”. The story won’t be hard to tell....but finding illustrations that would do justice to the impossible architecture and geometry of the lost city has never been done correctly and many believe may be impossible.
@@Dj.MODÆO Also it's one of the longer Lovecraft stories.
I'm partial to "The Hound"
I like the story of the rats in the walls
@@Mystickrage hehehe the dog gets me every time
Fantastic reading of a Lovecraft tale most excellent.
When I first read this story it really terrified me and it
terrifies me again with your telling of it.
Thank you for bringing this tale to life for me
Never bothered with lovecraft work before. But have been fascinated by the SCP universe which takes a lot of inspiration from lovecraft, however can safely say after listening for 10 minutes I’m loving this! How has it taken me so long to give this a chance
I've read a ton of it and there are a lot of good ones. Horror babble here on TH-cam have done quite a few of them. Just look out for racisms if you're sensitive to that sort of stuff. Especially stories like rats in the wall.
@@anonamously5858 and in herbert west. The racism picks up at a shocking rate. It goes from none to super in under 10 paragraphs. Taljs bad about women, black people, and Italians. Then a bit later it goes again
Thank you for the suggestions and I’ll be sure to look out for that kind of stuff but truth be told I’m English so I can’t be offended by a lot of that, don’t agree with it but certainly won’t put me off a good horror story
It was the latest blow up of Cuhthulu what couple of year now that got attention as I do love a good book..
I chose to listen to this audio book because I've been listening/watching scp storytelling 😁 🙏
Me too I never listened to the lovecraft stories, just went to the scp’s. However the other night I woke up to Dunwich horror and the description of Lavinia the albino and her goat child I’ve been catching up the past few days😅
You could get a job doing this professionally! I've gotten my Dad interested in HP Lovecraft, I'm going to show him this video! Awesome work!
I love how archaic Lovecraft's English was. It's giving it a very particular flavor.
Or, shall I say, It does provide a most peculiar mystique.
Lovecraft was a massive fan of Poe. You can see he adopted Poe’s language for his stories
Isn't proper grammar glorious?
Honestly I think his language is one of the reasons that his works weren't as popular during his own lifetime?
Having read many classics from the era, people just didn't talk/write like that anymore. I think it made his characters feel less realistic to his audience at the time. I mean, imagine if someone wrote a book where people talked in mid Atlantic way reminiscent of the 1960s but it takes place in modern day. It'd be weird, right?
Bringing a touch of class to pulp fiction magazines
Just as long as it never tries to haunt my woods
Oh fuck SCP-1000 got internet access now

HP Lovecraft is a bit risky online, Twitter might hear about it and claim that because you read one of his books you must agree with him on absolutely everything.

love your videos, you are my favorite narrator because you don't exaggerate your voice and make it feel fake, always listen to your videos when I go for a walk
An hour?! Yes please.
I love the pictures you include in your readings, Thank you for listing the artists pages!
while i love the SCP and i really love that.. this was so so wonderful thank you
Lovecraft really seems to love architecture.
Fun Fact, so did Hitler, just look at his artworks!
Gimme dat voice deep in my earholes
I’m so glad i had the free time and was able to listen to this all the way through. :D
What a great story.
I've never been one for audio books, but this was awesome! This is the first Lovecraft book I've experienced and I am not disappointed.
"I have seen the dark universe yawning. " Yeah, Universal Studios really fumbled that franchise.
Is It 5am? Yeah

Thank you exoloring as a dyslexic I've always hated to read as the words allot of times don't make sense and it's frustrating, but with this I've always wanted to read on of his books thank you for this
I love all of your vids man please do more HP Lovecraft readings like shadow over insmouth
Please read more of Lovecraft's works, all the other videos on TH-cam suck.
Awesome content , definitely one of my favorite youtubers
This is my second lovecraft book I’m listening to, and I’ve been falling asleep to it. It’s so calming and amazing, thanks for posting this :D
oh man this is going to be awesome.
Edit: It was! I've always wanted him to do exactly this. I figured it had to happen eventually. I hope there are more HP lovecraft stories on the way. They make such great audio books and I cannot imagine anyone else who I would rather have reading them than...I don't know channel creator's name so I'll call him The Explorer.
Moar... I MUST HAVE MOARRRR
awsome, hope more comes in the future!
I was listening to youtube in the background and it was just auto playing. I was half listening, but I tabbed over, and see I am lstening to an HP Lovecraft story. I thought it was an SCP Lord Blackwood tale, lol! Easy to see where the Blackwood tales got their influence!
Some guy: looks at a funny Cosmic Orb
Literally Nyarlathotep himself: ... And I took that personally
How about a mythology video about the flatwoods monster?
You'll know when it drops with Epitaph
I haven’t listened to it yet but wanted to say that this is amazing, please please please do more of these, the Ouroboros Cycle was amazing to listen to and I love the longer episodes! Thank you so much, I look forward to delving into this! ❤️
2 years later, I hope your loving the fact he drops much longer videos now
"I have seen the Dark Universe yawning"...really, I thought Dracula Untold was a good movie, not boring at all, and I was sad when the planned franchise never materialized. To think that Lovecraft actually got to watch the final Mummy/Vampire team-up movie all those decades ago.
This was a most amazing reading and I implore you to do more of it's like! Thank you so much for your incredible contribution
Oh boy 3 am!
"Now I'm waking up, I'll forget everything..."
I was just looking for something to listen to as I head to bed. Thank you.
Stephen king about lovecraft:"this guy can't write a scene".
To be fair, his writing quality isnt pitch perfect, but god is his language, imagery, and content amazing
Stephen King is a hack, though.
Lol Stephen King is the ugly child of horror literature. He's mediocre most of the time.

Mangg you're my boy!! Thanks for this
Great reading. I have always been interested in the link between Robert E Howard & H.P. Lovecraft. The mingling of their stories with cross-references of ancient civilizations and elder Gods. Their friendship certainly influenced each other. Would love to see you touch on those.
What an intro, man. Sets up everything while admitting nothing.
What's the music around 59:40 until the end?Its really nice, goes well!

horrible voice for this audio book
If anyone will be listening to this the weather must be raining.
FYI, it's pronounced 'fet-or' not 'feet-or'. It's similar to fetid or fetish, same root word.
Have any of you read Aurthur C Clarke's "City and the Stars"? In that book, it's method of story telling was the use of a device that created a mental reality allowing you to live through the story yourself. If we had that technology, i would love to live through this story while narrated by TES.
