    I love how gently you treat the dress. :) Stuffing it with paper towels to expedite drying & shape it is perfect.

      Thank you, Glynnisi. It's best to treat these treasures gently as they are fragile. They can still be preserve to be enjoyed for many more years. 🌼

    I remember getting to take out my moms old Barbies and getting to redress them and this dress was one of the dresses my moms Barbies had. I always thought it was such nice dress.

    Do you have any advice for Barbie fabrics that might peel? Like vinyls or whatever the shiney fabrics are that sometimes crack and peel.

    • @dollcollector1882
      @dollcollector1882  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry Brand, there's nothing much that you can do w/ delaminating fabrics. I've tried many methods & I haven't found a solution. What I've done was to cover the bald spots w/ sewing sequins on top of them. 🌷

    I've found that the vintage red Barbie clothes have the habit of bleeding out. I've heard that a vinegar/water soak can help prevent this. Do you have any experience with this method? If so, would you recommend it? I was hoping for some reassurance before I gave it a try.

    • @dollcollector1882
      @dollcollector1882  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the vinegar & water soak may help set the dyes. Setting the dyes w/ this method are more effective w/ natural fibers like cotton & linen. I've experimented w/ old & new fabrics; sometimes, it doesn't work. There is also a shrinkage problem w/ natural fabrics. The sewing seams may pucker after the washing. It's best to experiment when the doll clothes item is something that you can afford to ruin. It's best to leave the outfit in its original state if you can. Thank you for stopping by. 🌷

      @@dollcollector1882 Thank you for taking the time. I use a vintage "donor" doll body as a mould to dry those close fitting clothes I fear will shrink. I've had some luck as long as I allow them to air dry. Full cotton skirts are another story all together and need to be "tugged" into shape at just the right time. Thanks again for sharing!

    I have a male 12" barbie prince doll and he is wearing velvet clothing but the collar area is of regular cloth and its rather dirty but I'm afraid to wash it. I just want to know if its safe to wash?

    • @dollcollector1882
      @dollcollector1882  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No, I don't believe that the velvet fabric is safe to wash. I would take it to your dry cleaner for a safer cleaning process. They might be able to spot clean the small areas that are dirty. 🌷

    I wash in a similar way - I use Dawn dish soap because it is mild but works better on stains. I also spray the stains with peroxide. I also lay flat with paper towel or kleenex inside. I also have a small table to fan I use to expeed the drying process. I never iron because that's taking a huge chance of destroying and breaking down the fibers of the item. Extreme heat is never a good idea on vintage fabric. Simply pressing with your fingers while wet is the best way to get wrinkles out.

    Why dish soap? Is it better than laundry detergent (liquid)? I have the same dress! :)

    • @dollcollector1882
      @dollcollector1882  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dish soap is mild compared to the laundry detergent. Laundry detergent is strong & can damage natural fibers such as cotton & also lift the dye molecules from the fibers & can cause fading. Thank you for stopping by. 🌷

    • @dollcollector1882
      @dollcollector1882  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry but mold stains cannot be removed. You can alter the look by doing a tie-dye effect. There are pigment dyes that can be directly applied to the affected area that can also cover the stains. 🌷
