    Thinking that a 10 by 10 multiplication table is 100 math facts to learn is for noobs-it's only like 50. This means that kids learning basic multiplication only have half as much to worry about as they think. Take one of the most deceptive "more bark than bite" grade school lessons ever and cut it down to size in minutes.

      Multiplication was basically when I hit my demise in math. I never got past my 3's and then everything else always had multiplication in it so therefore I never learned beyond that in math. I feel like that's how it goes for many people who are math illiterate. With math if you miss a single foundational skill, you can be completely screwed from then on.

    I'm turning 20 in 5 months and multiplication still kills me. I know tons of formulas but they're useless to me since I need to bust out a pen an paper for anything that isn't basically all the easy stuff. Anyone who is watching this because they are GOING to need this and don't ALREADY need it, you need to trust me. Memorize this stuff! Don't draw or talk to your friends in class. Basic math is the most important stuff you'll need in your entire life!

      I have the exact same problem. If you ask me to solve any math problem I can do it...but with a calculator, I thank high school and middle school for that. This recently bit me in the ass because I had to take a test for an EMT course and I failed the math section because we weren't aloud to use a calculator. So now I'm here trying to learn my multiplication table so I can retake the test and hopefully pass.

    You could remove 9 too, it's pretty easy actually because it repeats a pattern, every first number increases by ten, and every second number decreases by one, for example....
    9x1= 9
    x2= 18
    x3= 27
    x4= 36
    x5= 45
    x6= 54
    x7= 63
    x8= 72
    x9= 81
    x10= 90
    See how it increases from 10 to 20, 30, 40, 50, etc. and see how 9 decreases from 8 to 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, etc.
    the pattern "changes" only when it's x11= 99, but you can see it as if it was the beginning again, and an example of 9x1= 9, from there you can go on again....
    x12= 108
    x13= 117
    x14= 126
    etc, etc.

    American public school system is garbage. We spent about 1-2 weeks on multiplication tables in 3rd grade then never touched it AGAIN. Of course I didn't learn it. Now I'm almost 22 in college and having to go back to try to conquer all these things that should of been properly taught years ago. I blamed myself for being "stupid" all this time, now I'm starting to see that maybe it wasn't all my fault.

    Any young kids reading this: You know that argument "When will I ever need this in the real world"? Forget algebra, forget geometry, forget calculus. Your basic math is more important than any type of math you will ever do(This is not to say the previously mentioned are unimportant). Unfortunately for me, and much of my generation, they stopped making basic stuff like your times table important(At least in my local area, not sure about everywhere else). Many of us grew up in the age of booming technology where we used all sorts of new technologies that were poured into educational funds for "innovation", and it made us handicapped by over-shadowing the basics. Hell, cursive writing for me was ignored after the 5th grade. A lot of us don't know our times tables, and our hand-writing is crap because we always typed things on computers. If you are young, get yourself to practice these things on your own time, even if your school isn't forcing you. It saves you so much time and effort when you move forward. Luckily for you guys, the internet if full of more information than it was when I was your age. You can literally learn anything if you turn Minecraft off for 30 minutes a day to teach yourself something -- even if it's just simply watching a video on TH-cam.

      @suleskos.2743 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@clark5317 Spot on. I will add that some basic skills needed for functioning as an independent adult used to be taught in high schools for generations and proved successful. Classes such as Home Economics, which included simple cooking techniques and measuring (math), to teaching how to balance a checkbook/account (math); basic mechanics (math) and drivers education which included distances in feet and yards for safe stopping behind other cars and safe accelerating onto highways in between cars, (math) and even how to safely change a tire. One math teacher even taught us how to count change back for a cash transaction, and at fouteen my very first official paying job was as a cashier.
      Students were expected to know basic math in thier heads for quick calculations.
      We were also taught civics, which would be government, and exactly how it (is supposed to) function including the origins of our type of government, (a republic). Which made for a more elightened populace, which is good for everybody.
      In general standards to be met were much higher and more was expected of us, therefore we learned to expect more of ourselves, and with that came personal responsibility and dignity.
      Now, if all that (and more) proved for successful basics, stop and think about why those things were removed from school curriculums, and how differently we function in society now compared to before...

    I learned it a very different way, but I am very impressed with this version. I think with any student the hardest thing to overcome is not learning or memorizing the topic. It is the belief in oneself that you can do this. But it is a catch 22. You need a teacher that can teach you a part that you are convinced you will not learn, learn it, and that opens the door to your starting to understand, yes you can do. What surprises me is that in so many things I felt if someone else can do it, I can too, but in others I felt I could never do it. In 3rd grade I had a Math teacher that showed me the nines table. I figured out the other tables and all of a sudden began to do better in math. Still, I had a long way to go to have confidence in academic studies to know I can do it too. But that is what opened the door to me.

    Thank You For The Video. I'm A Kid And I Still Struggle With This. I Struggled With Math In Middle School. Multiplication Is The Hardest And The Times Tables I Cannot Remember. 9's And 5's. But I Use My Multiplication Chart That Helps Me A Lot. I'm Not That Smart At Multiplication But My Mom Helps Me With Math Every Day. And I Agree With You 100% Because Some People Have Hard Times With Multiplication And They Cannot Seem To Remember What The Answers Are. When I Was In Middle School I'd Always Struggle With Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, And Fractions. I Would Guess On Answers And Not Pay Attention In Class. The Teacher Always Helped Me Because I Never Put The Right Answers. But Now In High School It Is The Same Thing. We Do Multiplication And Subtraction. I Struggle With Multiplication Because I Can't Remember What The Answers Are. But Subtraction Is What I Struggle With Too Because Of Borrowing And Regrouping. So For Example: 751-215 I Would Be Confused And That's Tricky. But Another Number 310- 235 That's Also Tricky. But Math Is Not Easy For Most People Like Me Even Though I'm Good At Math And It's Hard. I Always Keep Trying And Never Give Up. But Thank You For Showing Me The Video And Explaining In The Video About The Times Tables.

    • @intergalacticraisins8985
      @intergalacticraisins8985 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if it's still helpful but to solve 751-215 you can do 7-2=5, 5-1=4 so the first digits so far are 54 then 1-5= -4 then you can solve 540 with 0 ones -4 =536. For 310-235 you can do 3-2=1, 10-35= -25 then 100 with 0 tens and ones -25=75. It's a misconception that you can't subtract larger numbers from smaller numbers and with subtraction I find it's easier to subtract all the numbers then do it again to negative numbers.

    I'm 57yrs old and learnt the times table the old fashioned way at school by our teachers by repetition and memory. The one thing I remember was and I don't know if it was by design or not but it became a competitive type thing between the boys (don't know about the girls) to be able to recite your times table. Not wanting to be left out you would actually practice or "study" them so as not to be left out of the gang so to speak, there was no bullying if you didn't know them but I remember feeling good about knowing them off by heart. I can't remember the teachers holding competitions for this at all just constant repetitive practise.

    When I was learning my times tables I was pulled out of my school to a new school, they already learned times tables :-: I still to this day only know my 1-5 and 10 but this video helped me a ton tysm!

    I have a math test tomorrow and I’m in grade 9 and we need to write down the whole multiplication table in 20 mins so this helped A LOT thank you.

  • @Knowledgeovergrades

    This is very true. We only need to focus on part of the table because the rest are easier to remember. I just made a video on the multiplication rules we can forget once we learn them, plus hand tricks that will help us come up with multiplication facts 6-10 quickly and easily.

    This is helping me out a lot. I felt discouraged in re-learning this, so being 26 and having a refresher course is phenomenal. Thank you, honestly.

    WOW! After having learned these facts the "old fashioned way," by doing the timed test repeatedly until I knew them all, I am stunned at how many different tricks there are! Why didn't our teachers years ago teach US like this?? lol Thanks so much for sharing!!

    We had one week to memorize the multiplication table in 3rd grade. Easy peasy! They need to go back to teaching like they did before new math of the early 70s.

    This is brilliant. Learning the shortcuts really helps when you are in a pinch. I remember working a customer sales job before and people laughing at me because I got change wrong, I never want to go back to that again, not for them but for me. It's never too late :-)

    Why in the name of all that's holy didn't they teach us this way in school?!?! 😨 I struggled so damn bad and my self esteem suffered so badly because I couldn't memorize multiplication tables that I just completely gave up on school. I'm 45 and finally in college (chose a degree I didn't need math for, because of this) and now I find this looking for a way to help my son. Every teacher on the planet should make it this easy!
