You are an inspiration ! I am learning Japanese for literature, and it's hard to find about others who are doing do for similar reasons. Mishima Yukio was the main reason I started, as 鏡子の家 hadn't yet been translated, and his writing on eroticism was very influential to me in my late teens. Other favourites are Akutagawa Ryunosuke, and Kawabata Yasunari. I look forward to delving into things more as I progress : )

My favorit book of Murakami is Hard Boiled Wonderland and the end of the World. I read the book in german when I was 15 years old, later in english and some years ago after learning spanish for some years in spanish..... now I ordered the book in japanese.... I just started to learn Hiragana, but it´s motivating for me to see the book on my table every day......

18 years? Congratulations! I first started learning Japanese when I was 18, and that's exactly 18 years because I'm 36 now. Sadly, I stooped learning like 3/4/5 times for different reasons, but I believe now I'm on the right track again and advancing in a way better fashion.
Thank you for your videos! Very inspiring and insightful. I iust bought my first Japanese manga and book, so the previous video I saw from you was a gem amidst all the craziness there is out there. Thanks! ❤

very cool, and congrats on the (guarenteed) phd :)
This summer I've been going through all the stories on aozora roudoku. I love this resource. I don't always understand everything especially literary essays, but there's a lot on there that is very concrete and easy to understand.
I read a tonne of Japanese literature in translation a decade ago, so I'm really going through the journey of reading stuff in its original form now, although I already liked it quite a lot.
Kawabata Yasunari is probably my favourite, then Akutagawa, then Souseki. With Snow Country and Kappa being my favourites.

Thanks for the recommendations and congrats on the Phd. I've always loved reading Murakami Haruki in English but I have the feeling that if my Japanese level was up to the job, I'd be able to see where he falls short; expecially in comparison to other Japanese writers..

Very many congratulations on your dissertation approval!
I'm just starting the second year of my PhD, looking at Japanese disaster narratives in literature, films, and video games, and I'm happy you mentioned Tawada Yoko as she was a pivotal author for me during my master's, especially her novel 献灯使.
    Thanks for the great video!

Glad to see you again, I like your approach.
I started to read in japanese back in january of this year, mostly contemporary mystery fiction like Hiroshi MORI, Aosaki Yuugo, Kitayama Takekuni and the likes. Hope I will reach the level where I can read someone like Natsuhiko Kyougoku or Ryuusui Seiryouin without much struggle the next year. There are so many interesting or outright strange books and writers that will never be translated it's just insane, and I continue to find more and more.
Nice read, Satou Yuuya has improved his writing a lot over just a few months since his debut novel.
Look forward to the next video.

    Hello!
Congratulations on your journey, not many get this far. I never read books too much, which is sad, but I am now - a bit, not in Japanese though, but Polish, it's a book by Stanislaw Lem, a polish Sci fi writer.
Anyway congrats again! Impressive knowledge, subbed!

And thanks for reminding about all those authors. Now I also want to go and reread something, maybe Kokoro or Chijin no Ai 🙈
Would love to see more videos like that~ Maybe even not on authors but on some books that you would like to get more recognition.

I was wondering if you were aware of the work of the Taisho period author Nagatsuka Takashi, who published the novel Earth (aka The Soil) (Tsuchi, 土) in 1912. I've read this fine book in English translation because of the great, classic film of the same name, directed by Uchida Tomu, and released in 1939. The print was missing for many years, but now all but the film's final reel has been recovered. I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Thanks.

I do!! He was a Soseki disciple and Soseki even wrote an ad for 土 back in the day. If you liked that book, there's a whole genre of so-called I think Tyler Walker may have published a book about it. Afraid I've never had the pleasure of seeing the film though.

This is an example of baby-level Japanese designed for a foreigner. Japanese don't communicate with each other like this.

At which university is this? I’ve been looking for a Japanese graduate studies program in the Netherlands and I’ve not had much luck in finding something specific to Japanese. Lots of “international” programs but none specifically for Japanese linguistics/pedagogy or Japanese literature.

Your Japanese sounds way better than Dogen who always sounds so forced and like he has to try so hard to speak correctly.

    • @bunsuke.nihongo
      @bunsuke.nihongo  ปีที่แล้ว +18

Oh thank you! I think I heard Dogen talk once about how he records. I think he does seven takes of each line and then picks the best one, but then in the end it might sound a bit artificial because of this. He is very good though...
