    Yuri, Steve McQueen was the poster boy for coolness. He was the real deal. Not just an actor, but a legit racer. And without traction control, anti-lock, etc. etc. Open your mind to understand and appreciate history and the people who were products of their times.

    • @rosewood1
      @rosewood1 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely Steve was a real racer. And you have to watch the movie. The action is real not CGI and to this day is still one of the very best driving sequences.

    • @moogle68
      @moogle68 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The feeling of something in the moment is irreplaceable. I can watch Bullit as many times as I want, with as much contextual knowledge of Steve McQueen and the way society was when it was released, but it will *never* compare to being there when it happened, or being a _kid_ when it came out. I agree that Yuri and Jakub should know who Steve McQueen is and why he is important in car culture if they are going to be making a living doing car reviews for members of said car culture, but it's just unreasonable to expect newer generations to ever be able to fully appreciate events that were before their time. There is just too much context and sensory information that people constantly take in for someone to _truly_ understand and appreciate events that they were not alive to experience in person.

    • @texanfournow
      @texanfournow ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@moogle68 I agree with the gist of what you are saying. For me, it's more Yuri's & Jakub's dismissive attitude that bugs me.
      Apparently the folks at Ford thought that Bullitt was pretty special. They don't do that for just any film (thankfully).

      Yeah in my GT 6-speed I notice if you wring out 1st and go to 2nd and 3rd then it doesn't sit there and take forever like it was when they tried to floor it in 3rd. The transmission feels like it has multiple shift modes: light acceleration, short shifting, and pedal to the floor.

    You are car guys, watch the entire movie lol. Steve McQueen is a Legend. Lot's of interesting facts about that movie too. Like Steve McQueen did a lot of his own driving (until he crashed and his wife begged the director to get a stunt driver) which pissed McQueen off. The reverse burn out shot that you guys replicated wasn't scripted. That chase scene set the bar for future car chases too.

      Same here...late 20's and I don't really watch old movies otherwise. But, Steve McQueen is great....he plays his characters very entertainingly well and he does almost all of his own stunts. The only one that I can think of that he didn't was jumping that motorcycle in Great Escape..and that was for legal reasons lol. Also, not only did he do all of that driving through San Francisco, he did it in a car that takes a lot more skill to drive than today's comparable cars. I hope that they see these comments and actually watch the entire movie. I don't get how such car people could not appreciate Steve McQueen much more.

      I think what Jakub said at the end is also very true about Bullit being a movie that not only has a car in a star role, but is deeply entrenched in car culture itself. Transformers is primarily seen as a kid show, so just because they made a live action + CGI blockbuster funded series of movies out of it, it's always going to have that sort of undertone of being "for kids". The transformers Camaro might do alright with hardcore transformers fans/collectors, but aside from that I don't see how it can hope to keep it's value like this Bullit has done so far.

    Let me explain.... It wasn’t so much about the movie but more about the cars in the movie. The Mustang in the movie was a 68 Mustang GT 390FE big block and top loader 4 spd, it was the muscle car that the everyday guy could afford and wanted badly and in a drag race it could smoke any small block Shelby Mustang. As automotive reviewers you should really brush up on your car knowledge.

It was made in San Jose in May 1968 & came off the same production line as the ORIGINAL "Bullitt" movie Mustangs. It was imported here in 2012 & it remains LHD. "Unfortunately" it is an auto but hey I'll live with that!😂I still smile from ear to ear every time I take it out. The looks it gets from young & old never ceases to amaze me. Steve McQueen is a legend there will never be another person as influential in the car and movie world as him. He was a world class race driver and an iconic movie star. The bullitt mustang is one car i want to be able to own at one point in my life. i recommend you all watch the movie, even if it seems boring at first, just keep watching. i still love the newer movies like f&f (never watched gone in 60 sec or transformers) but there is something nostalgic about watching steve mcqueen chase the guy in the charger through the streets of San Francisco. trust me you wont regret it

    Put your tech down and watch the movie in full; the car chase is a thing of beauty. Gone in 60 seconds is another good car chase movie, but not as good as Bullitt. As far as it relates to current generation, meh, younger gen X and all of gen Y will have trouble relating to Bullitt, especially if you're not a car guy/gal. It should be noted the majority of people buying these cars are boomers or older gen x-ers anyways, so it still resonates with them.
    On the traction control thing, people need to learn how to drive; turn off the nannies, and hit a track day or two. If you can afford a mustang GT, you can afford track days. The chassis in this car is so much better than the high horsepower stuff I used to drive, not to mention tire technology has improved significantly; cars are real easy to drive today, and I'm not even that old.

      @@TheStraightPipes But you have to consider all movies during or around this time. Bullitt was way ahead of its time. And the iconic chase scene was all in 1 take, in the real streets on SF, with no visual FX, and none of it was sped up like most other movies in the 60s. Steve McQueen is a movie and action star legend. Sure, he quit in 1969, but a man who did all his own stunts, and was well known as one of the best actors of the time, reminds me of an action star today...

    Sorry, but I couldn’t disagree more. The Bullitt Mustang is classy and subtle. Eleanor was gaudy and brash. You’re right, unfortunately Bullitt doesn’t resonate with this generation. It’s slow paced and you have to pay attention to catch the details as the plot unfolds. It’s a classic film with one of the greatest car chase scenes of all time. Steve McQueen is a legend. Coming from nothing and forging a career as one of Hollywood’s most iconic action stars. Not to mention one Hell of a driver in his own right. The new Bullitt pays homage to that legacy. It’s too bad people today don’t take the time to understand that.

    I saw the movie Bullitt when I was in my late teens, and there was nothing like it at the time. Today's movie goers are too used to CGI where nothing is really plausible and it gets really boring seeing the same excessively over the top crap. Just as I cannot sit through over the top CGI effects in movies today, I understand the current generation's thinking about real action movies with no CGI are boring to them. Each to their own. I still remember how good (unhealthy) hamburgers were made years ago compared to the modern-day mush version. You don't know what you don't know.

  • @nimlil
    @nimlil 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What makes this movie more iconic over all the others is how big it resonated to the car enthusiast as well as the general public at the time it came out and how long it held its status. You just don't get this with movies of today. Sure there are better car chases now, or more explosions etc now. But when Bullett came out, it set a benchmark for its time with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Steve McQueen was the king of cool who never lost that image, as well he was a real race driver who just resonated with car enthusiasts. Nicolas Cage doesn't have the same weight today that Steve McQueen had back in his day. Most movies and car chases of today even if they are really good, seem to be more of a flavour of the month because they were done before. Kind of like Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon, are there better martial arts fight scenes since that movie came out, yes, but none may be more iconic because when he did it, how iconic he became and how there had never been anything like it before. Will people talk about Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicolas Cage after almost 60 yrs?

    It’s saddening when the younger generations compare Nicolas cage with Steve McQueen and the Bullitt car chase with fast and furious. It’s like comparing chalk and cheese and looking for similarities. The major differences apart from McQueen having a car built in his honour and not having to wear a hairpiece. He was not only as cool as they come. He grew up pretty much an orphan, was a US marine and wasn’t related to a director like Coppola to make it. The chase scene in Bullitt was a real chase on real streets and McQueen drove the car. In fact McQueen was the real deal racing motorcycles and cars. So much so that professional race drivers at Le Mans said McQueen was damn quick and could easily compete with the best drivers in the world. He competed in many motorcycle events placing as high as third. Due to his acting schedule he couldn’t apply himself as he would have wished, but was highly respected by the motorcycle racing fraternity as a competitive racer. There would also be no dodge red eye as the challenger was the bad guys car. They will not be building a car in honour of the fast and furious or Nicolas cage in 50 years. “Racing is life, everything before and after is just waiting” Steve McQueen the King Of Cool.

    Jesus, if you’re “car guys” you have to know your history and know Steve McQueen. All history is relevant.

    "Car guys" that never watched "Bullitt"!!! Next you will tell me you never watched "The French Connection". I won't even bother to tell you why you should. McQueen was the King of Cool not just because of his persona in movies, but he lived the life - both racing cars and motorcycles. Now tell me you never watched "The Great Escape" (no McQueen did not jump the barbed wire fence on his motorcycle for insurance reasons). You better establish your creed as "car guys" because I'm wondering...

      The problem I have with many "modern" movies with car chases is the heavy reliance on computer modeling. You get scenes of vehicles doing the impossible, and frankly I am not prepared to park my brain at the movie entrance. I appreciate gritty realism not illusion. I am not trashing all modern chases, but there are too many fantasy productions. B-T-W, "Ronan" is a more modern chase that can be appreciated.carbuzz.com/news/ronin-still-has-the-best-movie-car-chase-scene-since-bullitt
