The airforce and eagle pilots being mostly all women must be an homage to the original Starship Troopers book where Juan "Johnny Rico quoted that women can't join the Mobile Infantry but they serve instead as pilots in the navy because they have more "better motor skills and bodies fit for high G maneuvers" or something like that.
In the first game, there was a bit of lore suggesting that the Terminids, when first encountered on their home world, were a very intelligent hive mind with no ill intentions towards humanity. But, once Super Earth realised that the bugs decompose into oil, peace was never an option. They abducted the bugs to put them into farms on other worlds, and them being cut off from the hive mind essentially turned them into the feral beasts we know today.
So, individually, they're just insects. It's the hive mind, the gestalt, that's intelligent. Gotta get all them neurons somehow, I guess. Linking brains together works.
Okay so I'm not anyone special from Arrowhead or anything so this is just my understanding as a lore junkie... The Terminids were absolutely being farmed that's not in question. There's been a hundred years since the first Galactic war and they aren't the same species anymore. We defeated them in the first war and (apparently) *then* we discovered E-710 and kept some alive to experiment on using them as a fuel source. "Terminids" are a genetically altered version of bugs designed to be optimal fuel sources for our farms. For the last 100 years they've been on farms and have been the fuel source that has powered our expansion across the galaxy. The question now remains whether this recent breakout from the farms is in fact a real breakout or whether it has been staged by Super Earth, because they are showing unparalleled growth now and to paraphrase a quote from an NPC in the game "the supercolony on meridia is producing spores at a greater rate than any of our farms could have imagined"
So we got a war-waging human empire, space orks, a technology advanced alien civilisation, and a group of humans who heavily augmented their bodies with technology. Starship Trooper meets Wh40k.
bro you shouldve talked about the descriptions to the ship upgrades you can get in HD2. a max upgraded eagle-1 has both her legs cut off, has the plane's safety systems removed, and the cockpit is filled with breathable liquid. the ship's cannons were muzzle-loaded before you put in the breach loading upgrade. im pretty sure one of the upgrades mentions you upgrading from trial software to a subscription service.
This misses a lot of parts including some that make is so SE is not the "bad guy" 1. Automatons literally have extermination camps and harvest captured humans possibly for brains as these camps are always attached to fabricators(this is in gameplay), its all very "86" if you read those novels or watched the adaptation and there are some things that very much feel like a reference to the "headless" from there. 2. We have seen Automatons prioritize killing unarmed civvies over helldivers regularly in gameplay 3. Illuminate tech was already powered by E710 and we took that tech from them so hmmm who was likely spreading the bugs who are incapable of spaceflight and was likely farming them for E710 before SE 4. Humans ARE openly farming bug ,its in lore that humans are openly farming them but that the bugs were docile previously tho. 5. WE did no take their "homeworld" in the second war so far, we only pushed them back into deeps space before they reemerged . 6. The cyborgs are still alive but imprisoned in cyberstan and they were far from being human with their extensive cybernetics in the previous war, however its implied that they are not physically imprisoned but virtually and without bodies. Some extra bits, - Automatons are fighting a third faction on the planets they occupy, in fact we have seen them straight running from fights with this unknown faction several times (i myself have actually gotten one of these encounters as i listened to this video) -Bugs are not mindless they are regularly seen moving in very tactical terms , hitting and fading, surrounding targets and attacking in unison hinting at a high level of coordination or hive mind/telepathy
Not to mention that in helldivers 1, if any faction pushes back to super earth and wins, super earth will be blown up & the SE flees to a new place in space to rebuild from scratch.
The Automatons may be related to the Cyborgs, but they are *not* the Cyborgs themselves. The Cyborgs were still confined to Cyberstan, being "Democratized" (re-educated)when the Automatons showed up at the edge of known space.
