    This video comes by way of a couple of video requests for the topic, and some perfect timing to do this video. For those that want to send stereo audio from their PC (or Mac for that matter) via USB to the XR18, this is the basic instruction set for that.

      I did everything step by step, but for some reason the level of the music is extremely low, and the channel is clipping and making awful noises. Downloaded the driver, changed the audio from the computer to 1-2 out (berhinger x18). Usb return to 1-2 (used the preset). As I said there is signal, just awful noise and clipping that isn't there when connected via aux cable to channels 17-18. I tried multiple usb cables, any idea what the issue might be? Thanks in advance

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheHassassian That is weird. There is a USB level in the channel control of X-Air for ch 17-18, but if you were hitting it too hard, it might sound bad... but it shouldn't be low.
      I'm assuming you rebooted the computer after installing the driver... Just in case it was something simple like that.
      It could be something like you BIOS needs updated on the computer or some BIOS setting, or something to do with mobo/USB drivers needing updated.
      In the Setup section, Audio/MIDI, you might switch from 48K to 44.1K clock rate... and reboot everything and see if that makes any difference.

      @@AlanHamiltonAudio Hi Alan! Great video, but I have the same problems as Saro have with my MR18. I followed all the steps and I got the sound to work through without any problems, sound is good but it´s clipping, sounds like you put on an old dirty LP with scratches and you raise the volume until the scratches makes the signal to clip. I have tried 2 laptops and one iMac with the same result. I have switched the USB-cable, updated BIOS, changed the settings on USB-ports in BIOS, changed to 44,1 in the M18 setup. I did try to route manually but still... I have the same clipping noise on the Mains out aswell in the phones out when trying headphones. I have even tried both USB-drivers in the midasconsoles/downloads page. No difference. What do you think is the problem? Shall I just accept the problem and play music through 17/18 using 3,5mm stereo 2xmono tele to 17/18. Im worried if I will have a problem recording to reaper using the USB-interface, but I haven´t tried it yet.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonnyedvardsson9608 I think it would be worth trying Reaper since it's free to try anyway, and see if the problem persists. Like you, I suspect it will. But maybe it won't. In either case, that is a bit more information to troubleshoot from and try and figure out what the problem might be.
      Besides that, in the Behringer/Midas SETUP (X-Air Edit/M-Air Edit) on the Audio/MIDI tab, you could try changing the USB interface to 2/2 from the normal 18/18. This then won't work for Reaper, but maybe some computers need it in this mode for stereo operation. Try that and report back if you can.

    Thanks Allen! I have a new xr18 for church. I've been setting it up for quite some time now. Over the Christmas holiday I watched this video 100x until I got my pc to play through the xr18. One tip for others as this was my problem- when I downloaded the xr18 digital mixer software on their website I DID NOT select "drivers and devices " and my software did not work. Once I unistalled and then reinstalled I was able to see the behringer out 1 2 as a speaker option. With out drivers and devices selected I only saw "behringer xr18 speakers" or something like that. Anyway thanks for the videos I'll be absorbing them all!!

    Just a note for Mac users, You can direct the system sound output to a specific mixer channel using the Audio MIDI Setup app, found in the Applications/Utilities folder.
    Make sure the Audio Device window is visible.
    Window > Show Audio Devices
    Select X18/XR18 (18 ins/ 18 outs)
    Click the Configure Speakers button
    Select the channel for Left and Right (17 and 18 for Aux)
    I use this to listen to NetFlix, TH-cam, Spotify etc. on the XR18 Aux channel through my desktop mains without interfering with my 1 and 2 input channels. Also works for virtual soundcheck from a DAW, which no doubt will be the subject of a new video.
    One further note, make sure that your Sound settings, in System Preferences > Sound, send Sound Effects to your Mac's Internal Speakers, otherwise every 'ping' will go through your mains.
    Great work Alan.

    Hello, Alan, and thank you for your great and concise tutorials! I would like to address a question, so excuse its redundancy and my foolishness in case; I'm new to live mixing and the XR/X18. As I see it, the XR/X18 is made for smaller sets and venues since it only has one output, 'main out'. My contractor (not an audio engineer at all, or anything like that) bought the X18 without thinking in advance of this 'issue'... well, it's not really an issue, but more of a personal quirk. We use it for a large hall that has 4 sets of speakers that are connected to 4 (iNUKE NU3000) amplifiers, so we're sending the same 'main out' signal to all those 4 stations, which seems pretty common and natural, but not 'exquisitely professional'. I would've liked to create 4 separate stereo mixes for each of those speaker sets, with different stereo widths, EQ curves and different compression settings, and the possibility to adjust the levels or turn off the speaker sets (depending on how big the audience is or other factors) independently, from the mixer, without tweaking the amp boxes themselves. So, I would've liked using a 'set and forget' approach for the amp boxes. To make it short, I want to use the X18 only as an audio interface and do all the mixing on my DAW. (Yes, I also have to pray to God that my computer will not crash or become unstable during a show!)
    The X18 offers me 6 aux outs which are, naturally, laid and engineered for monitoring; I would've wanted using these aux outs as the main speaker outs. My issue is that I cannot route the USB returns to these aux outs directly. I can only route them to the FX channels and then route the FX channels to the aux outs (pretty unpractical since I'm not sure I can turn the effects off for each of these FX channels). Another approach (the most common and go-to, actually) would be to set the USB returns to 6 regular channels (for 3 stereo mixes, separate from the main out) and then route those to aux outs, but that means I have to sacrifice 6 analog inputs (which I may need). I'm not sure if there's any way to insert separate USB channels (like, a channel 19, 20, 21 and so on), or hack into that somehow - that would be great. What would you suggest to be the most practical solution in this case? Using an ultranet box to get more outs? I will also need stage monitors or IEMs in a future, so definitely in need of more out ports for separate mixes. Thank you very much!

I see only outputs 1-8 on the Windows sound control panel instead of 1-18. As a consequence, I can only have routing on USB I/O 1-8 from/to my DAW (BandLab Cakewalk). Any idea why only 1-8 ? If you want/need stereo, then yes. If you have sep mono tracks, like vocal on one side and music on the other, then probably want mono for that. Or if the PA is mono using only the L or R output, that would be another reason to not pan them, though you could still link them in that case

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need ethernet, whether cable or wireless for X Air Edit to work (connect with the mixer). USB is only for audio. So make sure your X-Air edit is actually controlling the mixer and you have a proper connection between the mixer and the computer.
      Maybe even with a mic and headphones in the mixer so you can test things are actually working and aren't in offline mode or something.
      Once you're sure the mixer is working and X-Air Edit is controlling the mixer (and you have sound in the headphones), then you can check your settings and make sure USB settings are set correctly and all of that.
      And at that point try for computer audio again.
      I don't have any Apple stuff so I don't know what potential settings might need to be checked there. Always try swapping USB cables, and for testing, use short cables so you have some margin of error on USB cable length limitations. Once you know it's working, you can try your longer cables since you have a point of reference that you know IS working.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you link out 5 to 6 in the X-Air Edit software that should automatically pan those outputs. So you can make any 2 channels 'listen' to USB 1 and USB 2 via routing in the X-Air. For example the Aux In channels (17 and 18). Set those to listen to USB 1 and USB 2 (not analog in). Then just make sure to UNASSIGN those two channel from L-R and set the bus 5 and bus sends to unity on those two channels. Or set those two busses to "Subgroup"
      Also, in the output section, make sure that bus 5 and bus 6 are NOT assigned to the L-R.
      Then just connect your left monitor speaker to XLR out 5 and the right to XLR out 6.

    you do the same steps if you want to send a click track when using it as IEM? I'm using ableton, but i would think that it dosn't matter what DAW you use...

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, essentially... although using a DAW and the Behringer ASIO driver gives you more options since you can send more tracks to the X-Air, and more options for the tracks to go different places. Of course, none of that really matters of you just have a click track you need to send to IEMs... But if you have a click track, a vocal track, and an instrument track (for example), then it would matter then...
      If you know your way around Ableton well enough, I have a Reaper to XR video, and you should be able to figure out the settings for Ableton from that. The XR settings would be the same basically, but obviously the Ableton and Reaper GUI and workflow is going to look different.

    Hi, Alan. Excellent content on your channel. I'm also a Patreon subscriber and an XR18 newbie. I have a quick question: do you have a video that explains how to both play and record audio from a single laptop through the XR18? Specifically, I have a very small wedding coming up where I need to play music from a laptop (it's in a remote location so streaming is not an option) along with a few mics. I need to simultaneously record everything back to same laptop with my DAW (Studio One.) I'm sure this is mostly a routing issue, of which I'm admittedly still learning. If you have a video that deals with this, could you point me to it? Thanks for your time!

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      While there's not a video that speaks exactly to that per se', there is the XR18 to Reaper video- th-cam.com/video/xYmJGyroVe0/w-d-xo.html
      Routing concepts in the XR18 would be the same regardless of DAW. For Studio One though, you'll have to transfer the concepts from the shown Reaper routing/setup to however that needs to work for Studio One.
      So I 'think' the info is in that video on how to do what you're wanting to do... but it's not talking about exactly that concept. Still, it's a matter of playing back the tracks, the same as if you were in the studio, while playing along with and recording the new parts. You're just live as versus the studio. So this video we're commenting under doesn't really get into those concepts, while the Reaper to XR18 video does get more into that type of concept and routing.

    Hi Alan - I have a little tricky question. I use XR18 in stage box for in-ear monitoring of four member band. We have a backing track, which we get to our ears in three different inputs. 14, 15, 16. Drums, Bass and Chords. It should be better to sound engineer for balance these three tracks during a live show. But - I dont know how to set up my MR18 to get these three tracks to sound engineer mixer. I suppose that I cannot change input to output despite fact that I have three tracks I can operate in Xair app as a standart inputs.
    We have this set-up:
    Instruments > Splitter
    1 Splitter output is return to sound engineer mixer
    2 Splitter output is connect to MR18 inputs
    MR18 Auxes > in-ear system
    Could you help me with this setting? I know that is working - I copied this rack and setting from fellow band which is performing with that, but I cannot get a answer how they have it set-up.
    Thank you

      You can use the XR18 or MR18 itself as an 18x18 audio interface (via USB) so you wouldn't need to use another interface to get into a DAW. It can be your USB audio interface itself.
      You just need to DL and install drivers for PC (Mac doesn't need drivers), select the 18/18 option in the Setup tab of the X-Air unit, and then setup your DAW by choosing the Behringer as your interface.
      So no additional hardware is needed if that is what you are wanting to do.

      Yes. IIRC a standard USB 2.0 cable (which the USB is 2.0) is a max of approx 15'. There are 'amplified' USB cables that can be used to extend the distance, but I've never tried one.
      Generally, you want to use as short of a USB cable as practical just to give yourself a margin for error. But this is true of any USB2.0 device, not just the XR18 and a laptop running a DAW.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, assuming I'm understanding you. It would have more to do with your DAW and settings there than the XR18. The XR18 has a full 18x18 grid of USB returns in the In/Out routing section. And any channel can be connected to the front panel inputs OR listening to USB for its signal.
      The XR18 even lets you move those around so you don't have to be connected 1 to 1 with the tracks in your DAW. IOW, your tracks could be 1-8, and your DAW outputting them to USB 1-8... And the XR18 could be set to have CHANNELS 9-16 listening to USB1-8.
      I've got this video for Reaper and the XR18. It does talk about how to setup Reaper for things like this when it's the DAW in question. I'm sure the DAW info translates in many ways, but it would still come down to knowing how to rout your particular DAW and the routines necessary.
      So even if you're not using Reaper, I think this video will be helpful for info on concepts for the DAW that you'll be looking for, and regardless of DAW, the XR18/MR18 settings will be the same.

    Hi Alan,
    Thnx for the great channel with all the clear explanations! I have a little 'custom question'
    My band is working with backing tracks, which by itsself is no problem wat all. Howeverf , we want tot use 'custom clicktracks' over the busses. The drummer and guitarplayer want a full clicktrack on their IEM's and the singer and bassplayer want a custom track, only consisting of an intro click of 2 bars and several spoken count-ins/reminders at crucials parts of the songs. I divided these over two tracks in our DAW (Cubase) that play completely synchronous with the backing track. Now I want to route these three tracks in a proper way.: Backing track to both IEM's and the FOH (FOH has it's own signal through a splitter box, IEM's go through the XR18 which has it's own signal through the same spliitter box).
    The remaning signals are IEM-only and I want to to use the FX return 3 and 4 to bring them into the IEM mix (over USB) so we can use all analog channels for the band itself.
    What would be the proper way to setup the routing? The XR18 is a brilliant device but setting up the routing can be a little daunting time to time 😀

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I think I could probably sort it out if it was all sitting in front of me, but I'm a bit lost trying to figure it out as you've written it. That's pretty complicated ;)
      I gather that you are using all the analog channels for band inputs and can't just use a couple of those inputs for the click tracks?

    • @dannyfortuyn
      @dannyfortuyn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AlanHamiltonAudio That's exactly what it is. All analog channels are taken, as are 2 of 4 FX returns. We are looking to use the 2 remaining FX returns for clicktracks, one of which is used by all 4 of us, and one of which is used by our drummer and guitar player only. To be complete: One of the analog channels is used as USB and processes the backing track that also goes to FOH
      What we need to do in short : We need to route 3 tracks from Presonus Studio One to three tracks in the XR18. The backing track itself to an analog track and separate clicktracks to the FX3 and FX4 returns (for IEM-only)
      Hope I made it a little clearer 😀

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might try downloading an older set of drivers and see if that makes any difference. Try a different USB cable.
      Do you have a different computer to test with? Maybe connect the MR18 to a different computer and see if that changes anything.
      Someone, either in this thread or the Reaper to XR18 thread had an issue connecting via USB and turned out to be a hardware issue with the XR/MR18. I don't recall if they couldn't couldn't connect at all, or got issues like you're experiencing.
      If you can connect to another computer with no issues, that would at least seemingly rule out a problem with the MR18 in this case.
      I suppose you could DL Reaper and give it a try to see if it somehow works when connecting to your computer, which then also could eliminate the MR18 as being a problem and at least send you back to your computer looking for a driver conflict or computer BIOS upgrade or BIOS setting that needs changed. But if that's the case, there's no guarantee that Reaper would work thru it either... but it might. It would be worth a try I'd think.

      I have this video about connecting to Reaper: th-cam.com/video/xYmJGyroVe0/w-d-xo.html
      I think you'd probably find it easier to feed the tracks and click via a Wave player (or MP3 player), or laptop using the analog (headphone out), or connected to its own interface and feeding the XR with an analog signal(s).... One quick question. We're using K12 speakers with the Ksub. Would it be easier to just do the daisy chain from each speaker into inputs A and B of the sub to save bus space for an IEM mix? Seems like you would have less control but it's a tradeoff if you need the extra bus I suppose.

    Can I route multiple sources from my computer to different channels on XAir or is Out 1-2 the only option ?
    For example : routing youtube to channel 1-2, a game to 3-4, another app to 5-6, then using the main output of XAir for a livestream. If you know of the GoXLR, that's the kind of setup I want to have.

      I'm not really sure... The XR18 can do its part since it's got 18 USB in and outs... but whether different software packages can access it... Or what the workaround would be... I don't know.
      AFAIK, for example, unless something has changed, something like OBS is locked to only using USB 1 and USB 2.
      Since you can make any outputs on the XR18 be USB 1 and USB 2, then that works fine in that case... but for what you're wanting to do. I just have no idea.

      At the bottom right corner of the screen where the speaker symbol is, if you click, normally x18 and xr18 offer you 4 pairs of stereo outputs,,, separated: Behringer OUT 1-2, Behringer out 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, listed as if there were 4 audio interfaces working simultaneously, at least thats what s happening in my case,,,so yes, practically it can be done,,,,if you see just out 1-2 at your list, im assuming you have the 2X2 interface checked at your x-air edit (although im not 100% sure), uncheck it and check 18X18, if thats not the case then try opening your sound devices from control panel, sound options, maybe they are listed there but hidden or disabled,,,, but it can be done for sure,,, hope it helps

    The audio isn't that clear coming from the computer (bluetooth seems clearer to the speakers) - any suggestions how to make the sound really clean?

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is strange. The USB connection should be the cleanest connection of all. If it's static, dropouts, that kind of thing, I'd suggest a new USB cable. The max length on a standard USB is only like 15' so shorter is better, and you definitely don't want to push it beyond that without looking into a powered USB cable.
      But if the audio is just muddy sounding, that can't be a USB issue. Obviously, the data is transferring.
      I'd look for any settings in the laptop audio that might be causing issues like an EQ engaged, or some type of 'spatial' settings, or something like being set for 4 speakers when it should just be stereo.
      Make sure the channel(s) you have the USB routed to don't have some kind of funky EQ dialed in (just disengage the EQ for testing)... no excessive low cut or hi cut dialed in....
      Compression not engaged (or if you want some compression, make sure it's not excessively into gain reduction). Also, double check you don't have something unintended inserted on the USB channels (like a compressor or EQ, etc... and that is where the problem is coming from).
      And then, make sure there's not some accidental reverb/delay/chorus dialed up on the USB channel(s) muddying things up.

      The first thing that comes to mind, and it might be how you worded the question and might not actually apply, is that you need two connections- USB only sends the audio signal and not the control signal.
      You need an Ethernet/wifi connection as well.
      Even if the same computer is sending the audio and also running X-Air Edit. X-Air Edit can't connect over USB. So the USB signal that Windows sees to know to show you OUT 1-2 as an option (X-Air) only means you're partially connected to the mixer. Your control software (X-Air Edit) will need to be connected either thru the Ethernet port or the Wifi.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio

      70 meters makes things more difficult. I'd be using an analog connection myself as the first option in that case (if possible logistically). Computer/MP3 player (headphone out or USB External preamp) into stereo DI and mic lines (or Cat5 to XLR dongles) to stage.
      If for some reason, hardwiring wouldn't be practical, it's possible to use high quality RF. If mono is acceptable, a standard but quality wireless mic setup with a beltpack taking the audio player input and the receiver 70 meters away could work.
      My first choice would just be to hardwire it.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The MR18 itself doesn't care (it has 18 USB inputs/outputs). So it would be up to the computer/software and your ability to change that. But as for how you'd do it, or if there are any additional software bits you could add that would allow you to make that change... I don't know. :(
      That said, you can always just soft patch USB 1 and USB 2 to be feeding some other channel(s) of the MR18 within the MR18 itself. So, for example, you could make the stereo Aux In channels (Channel 17-18) 'listen' to USB 1 and USB 2 (instead of their default USB 17 and USB 18).
      So if the goal is just not to have your USB audio coming into the console at CHANNELS 1 and 2... you CAN do that within the MR18 by just soft patching USB 1 and USB 2 to feed some other pair of channels.

      Or however it worked out for you... Channels 1-8 could be analog inputs... channels 9-10 could be softpatched to USB1 and USB2... and 11-16 could be using the analog inputs... and 17-18 could be your MP3 player.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure why you'd still have the signal going out if you deselected L-R from the channel(s)... UNLESS... you have one or more of your master monitor feeds (master bus feeds) set to go to the L-R by accident... and the channel(s) with your USB input is still sending to the monitors... and the master monitor send (or sends) is sending it to the house
      A similar scenario is described in this Top 5 FAQ video:
      th-cam.com/video/x9wciA2wFd0/w-d-xo.html
      If it's not that... then it's odd... You could probably stop it by going into the channel Config and changing the input on those channels from USB to analog. But stopping it that way, still means SOMETHING else has to be off... somewhere...
      I'm betting it's the monitor send or sends with one or more assigned to L-R. Check out the video link I posted above and see if you can track it down from that.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@smellytele9629 I think a lot of people that are getting it probably are getting it when they shouldn't. For a band that wants to have their own monitor console and send a split to a house rig, I think an analog splitter is the way to go. It just removes complications and variables from the situation. For a band that has their own FOH console AND Monitor console, traveling with their own FOH engineer, then it's a bit different answer. An analog splitter is just plain simple in function and has absolutely no impact between the two consoles as far as mixing goes. No matter what FOH or Mons would do, it won't change the other. The Midas splitter is operating in the digital domain, so any changes made on the monitor console's preamps will change the FOH mix. This means FOH can't do anything much until the band has set their channels onstage and is sure they won't be changing preamps. It's also a line output when the FOH operator will be expecting mic level outputs coming to FOH (since that is normally what they'd get from an analog split). That second part is not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it's still one extra thing to think about or be aware of. Plus, depending on the experience of whoever is at FOH, it can lead to 'surprises' even if you make it clear you're sending line level to FOH. Especially if the FOH engineer isn't following 'best practices' at FOH.
      If a band has their own dedicated FOH engineer, then a lot of the variables can be understood and sorted thru and planned for... So the Midas digital split makes a little more sense. It's definitely a cleaner connection and smaller footprint than a 16 channel analog splitter would be. But even then, the band needs to really understand what is going on and not be changing the preamps once they are set... or the band's mon engineer... or band member that has that control. I'm not sure how many bands will really understand that. It just seems like a recipe for trouble in many cases with a band making changes on the monitor console and those changes impacting FOH. I also assume the Midas digital split can be tapped at other points from the monitor console like post-EQ, post-fader, etc... though I haven't checked that. Those would just be additional complications for FOH if someone set things up that way. Once again, not a problem an analog can even have. I see so many routing misconfigurations and signal flow mistakes that I'm certain IF a problem can happen... it will happen.

      I don't know. Maybe they wanted (or needed) to keep all the USB bandwidth they could available for transfer of audio for multi-tracking. The XR18 can send (or return) 18 channels out via USB to a DAW.

      I guess because you can control it with your computer via ethernet, just need an adapter to get ethernet into your computer if it doesnt have a port for it already

      Make sure you downloaded and installed the USB Audio driver and not the X/UF driver. Also, maybe try the older version of the USB Audio driver. Beyond that, try a different USB cable and switch USB ports.

    How could I utilize a 5.1 signal from a browser streaming platform (HBO Max, in that case) and pass it all to Xr18?

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is something I'm not sure about. You'd want to use more of the DAW settings for the XR18 (Like in this video: th-cam.com/video/xYmJGyroVe0/w-d-xo.html ) assuming your way of feeding that info into the XR18 is digital via USB and not taking analog outputs from your 5.1 device.

      @@AlanHamiltonAudio I've done some digging in the meantime and for macOS, it seems I'd need to decouple the dolby surround signal (hopefully) coming from a browser player with a virtual audio loopback driver.
      Some of the options available are BlackHole (free/on donation), Loopback (paid), VoiceMeeter (paid, but has a Reaper-style trial). There's also a predecessor to Loopback - Soundflower - which has been discontinued and not maintained for a few years now, though.
      So I think I'll just tinker with BlackHole (lol) and see where I end up

I reset the Xair18 back to out of box settings, i followed this video to the T.. i have my speaker plugged in with working cables to the usb 17/18. I see the signal jumping when playing a youtube videonon the mixer Aux but i cant get any sound out of my monitors!? Im just trying to use this as a recording interface first off. I wanna start tracking.. but I can't even hear playback, youtube, mp3s, or previous project tracks. I have tonbe doing something wrong.. I just don't know what.

      @@johnnyshivers7310 You say you're seeing signal on the XR18 on the meters but just not able to get sound out of the monitors?
      Do you have any headphones or earbuds you could connect to the XR and see if you hear signal from them with your trax playing? Either directly from the L-R or if you SOLO the AUX IN channels.
      There's a volume knob for the headphones right beside the headphone jack on the XR18 and by default you should hear the L-R mix in the headphones.
      And whether you do or don't, when you SOLO the Aux IN section you should hear it then.
      If one or the other of those tests get sound it limits or points in different directions as to what might be going on.

      @@AlanHamiltonAudio I have zero sound. Either in the phones or plugged into the XLR monitor to 17/18- 1/4 jack. It's like sound just isn't there. I also can't seem to get playback from the tracks. I told the i/o what tracks to use in the daw. I was able to plug a guitar in and record a track after setting up 16 mono tracks. I then went back into the in/out setting and routed the mains to 17/18 like another video said and nothing.. no signal in the meters jumping. I don't understand why it's just pumping out ANY SOUND.

      @@johnnyshivers7310 In X-Air Edit, on channel 17-18 (Aux in), click the INPUT tab and you should see USB enabled (Cyan) and A/D greyed out.
      I'm pretty sure you do have that or else you wouldn't see any signal meters, but just to confirm things...
      Then switch to the MAIN tab and make sure the the Main Stereo LR button is enabled. It should be ORANGE and not greyed out.
      If it's greyed out... enable it.
      On that same page, look to the right and see if there are any DCA's enabled. If there are, just tick the enabled ones to eliminate a DCA fader overriding your settings. Or... you could just turn that enabled DCA fader UP if it's turned down. But for troubleshooting, just disabling any DCAs on 17-18 is a quick fix to make sure a DCA is not tripping you up.
      Even if you have the wrong things assigned somewhere, if you have input meters on 17 and 18, then you should get SOMETHING outputted from it...
      Next, in the top right, click IN/OUT and then go to the MAIN OUT tab. Double check that your MAIN is connected to your MAIN LR... This being wrong could create your symptoms.
      And while you're there... the Phones should by default be connected to MONITOR. That won't fix sound not being in the mains, but could address why it isn't in the headphones, plus might help with troubleshooting.
      Hopefully, by this point it's working... But if not... Then I guess there could be some random things to check that you probably already have checked... like making sure the channel 17-18 fader is up.... and the Master fader is up. And while you're looking at the Master fader, click on it and then go over to the "channel" tab at the top of X Air Edit. Which, at this point is not really a 'channel' per se that we're looking at.... but the Main bus itself.
      On the left side is a channel input section. There is an FX button and Insert point option there.
      While it's possible you could have inserted something there and want it ON... to eliminate a mispatch or anything else in the signal path while trying to troubleshoot all of this, set that drop down to OFF and to be double certain, make sure the FX button is disabled and greyed out.
      There's not really much else, that I can think of anyway, that would stop signal you ARE getting at 17-18 via the meters not to get to the outputs.

      IIRC the last Apple OS update added or locked/changed some permissions that had to do with audio interfaces. I don't have anything Apple to check that on, but maybe a Google search about 'USB Audio Interface not working on Mac' might have the answer about whatever it is that needs reset/changed (or changed back). Hopefully that is enough info to ring a bell and get you on the right path to at least check that.

    Still not having luck with mine. I have the one that's got the slot for a table to sit. It works on my Android and Apple Tablets just fine. BUT my pc always spits up a driver error. AND yes I've installed the right driver, even using "run as administrator", still nothing. Done it like 10 times. NOTHING gets spat out to the PC, tried 10 different type b cables (which work with my Brother Label Maker and 3d printer just fine) on every port on my PC which all work and carry data, even the only USB 2.0 ports I have which are on the front of my case, since the back is Strictly 10Gbs ports and 5Gbs. Windows 10 and the PC I just built is a $14,000 machine, so not underpowered in the slightest, but is AMD. Won't even connect to WIFI via AP mode or WLAN. The driver shows up in the sound settings, but no sound comes out of my mixer to my pc or through its aux out.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What driver error are you getting? I'm not sure what might be up. AFAIK the X18 shouldn't have anything different over the XR18. I've used a laptop with an Intel CPU and both iterations of my AMD desktop. Old one was an FX8350 CPU... new one is a Ryzen 7 5800X. The only hiccup was on the older AMD the newer driver didn't work the first time I tried it so I loaded the the previous driver and it worked fine. I think subsequently the newer driver did work even on that machine, but I've since retired that desktop so I can't say that for sure.

    • @tdata545

      @@AlanHamiltonAudio Unspecified. Just a generic "USB device not recognized" and is the only thing plugged into my USB ports and when I remove the plug from the mixer, so does the error get removed from Device Manager. HMM, maybe it is a Threadripper issue (3990x, as I said that machine is kind of absurdly overpowered for my daily use case, but boy can it play youtube videos); since you have a more "consumer" grade CPU (a good one at that, hence why this time I went team red), the driver support might be more standardised. I'll try it on my Area 51M with the 9th gen intel i9 and 2080, but I don't like that laptop since it lacks the ports (display mostly) that I need.
      I downloaded the drivers from Behringer's website last night, so they're really fresh. Even tried installing ASIO driver too, since one forum post suggested that option. It's frustrating, since it does work on my tablets, so it's not a power supply issue. And I doubt it's a German issue; since US sites didn't have it in stock so I ordered it on Thomann, 3 day shipping and $100 less than any US site, from Germany. Thomann was a site that Behringer listed as a retail partner.

    • @AlanHamiltonAudio
      @AlanHamiltonAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tdata545 I just looked at the Behringer DL site and didn't see the previous driver. Just the current 4.59 version. I could email you a copy if you want to try loading the previous driver to see if that shakes something loose, or loading it first rebooting, and then loading the newer V4.59 updates something in the process.
      ASIO shouldn't be the issue just connecting to Windows except for multitrack recording, and AFAIK the only ASIO driver Behringer will work with is the native driver that installs as part of the USB Driver /X-Air Windows package.
