I remember watching this on Mezzo around a dozen years ago (with better picture quality than here, but the same film). The choreography and charismatic presence of the dancers are amazing, the costumes are beautiful and the way they seem to be almost flying across the stage is something I have never seen in any other ballet. There's a powerful sense of threat or crisis in the music and in their movements, as if these people were of a culture, a civilization that is facing a moment of supreme crisis, perhaps its end (as in Central America around five hundred years ago or Imperial Russia in 1914-18). They know this, and try to respond to it or live through it with dignity, especially the two principal dancers, Gillot and Kader.
Una gestualita' finemente psicologica e metaforizzante impronta la riconoscibile narratio di questo balletto che contempla anche situazioni sottese e un commediale ed enfatizzato momento di sperdimento MOLTO efficace ed attuato con valentia attoriale. MOLTO BRAVI. BIGHIN GIULIO RENZO
J'ai eu la chance de la voir à la création, j'avais adoré ! soyez heureux, le ballet va etre proposé en juillet 2013 à l'opera Paris Bastille. Choregraphie de Carolyn Carlson, Décors et costumes d'Olivier Debré.
L'Opéra de Paris devrait faire davantage attention je pense aux réalisateurs des vidéos : celle-ci m'a énormément déçue par rapport au ballet que j'ai vu. Hélas, trop de gros plans qui nous empêchent de goûter dans son entier à l'admirable chorégraphie ; car là ce sont les vues d'ensemble qui sont essentielles, d'une beauté inouïe. Ce qui me prouve une fois de plus que très peu de réalisateurs comprennent la danse, ou plutôt possèdent l'art de la filmer.

Incredible performance. Marie Agnes and Kader are unbelievable. Now I have a problem. Can't watch classic ballet anymore. Need more of this.
