I agree that SMU could pose a more difficult challenge to ND in the first round. On the other hand, the weather conditions in South Bend could make it more difficult to pass the ball. If ND can get some important players healthy before the 20th, I feel good about their chances.
One factor not mentioned. If South Carolina plays ASU, ASU will essentially have a home game. That game will be played at the Fiesta Bowl. USC will have to travel across the country and play in front of 90% ASU crowd. ASU players will wake up in their own beds.
OKAY. Keep in mind that South Carolina is 4-1 in road games this season against ranked SEC teams. ASU has played NOBODY all season long. They've played two ranked teams. I agree that SMU could pose a more difficult challenge to ND in the first round. On the other hand, the weather conditions in South Bend could make it more difficult to pass the ball. If ND can get some important players healthy before the 20th, I feel good about their chances.

One big issue with this bracket, Arizona State would be the 12th seed, not the 4th. Boise State would be the 4 seed.
One factor not mentioned. If South Carolina plays ASU, ASU will essentially have a home game. That game will be played at the Fiesta Bowl. USC will have to travel across the country and play in front of 90% ASU crowd. ASU players will wake up in their own beds.
OKAY. Keep in mind that South Carolina is 4-1 in road games this season against ranked SEC teams. ASU has played NOBODY all season long. They've played two ranked teams. SC has played SEVEN RANKED TEAMS, and Beaten FOUR RANKED TEAMS in the SEC. So I think there is no place in the country which can be nastier to play a road game in, than the SEC. They will mange just fine. But I'd LOVE for this to happen.
SC has consistently played well in hostile environments.

Boise State has proven time and time again that out of the majority of the teams in the G5, they can go blow for blow with P4 teams.
Miami and SC are great teams, but if they're to replace a team, it's ND, as they haven't proven anything.
