I came in honor of Henry Fambrough the last surviving original member of the Spinners. He passed away at 85. Rest in Paradise. He lived a long life and left a legacy of great music. Awesome live performance. They were smooth with those moves too. Music like this is long gone and not being made today. But thank goodness for the memories and archives that harbor their great music. So many great talented male groups from this era. Grew up listening to these tunes played by my parents, aunties and uncles and cousins. Happy to have this music which shaped the fabric of my life.

The Spinners, Philippé Wynne, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, James Edwards, Bobby Smith, G.C. Cameron, ( and other members that were added, as some of the members died, but I noted only the core of the Spinners, and I grew up listening to their style of music. Still one of my favorite groups. Sad when Wynne left group to go solo because he wanted to be billed as lead singer. Same reason Ruffin left Temptations. Wanted group to be David Ruffin and the Temptations just like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson had names out front. Surprised Wynne flopped as a solo because he had one of the best voices ever. To drop dead on stage at a small venue with no success after the Spinners still make me sad.

A lot of Spinners fans think that Phillipe sang lead on all of those 70's hits.. Bobby Smith was the primary vocalist from the very beginning through the 70's. G.C. Cameron (Phillipe's cousin) sang lead on this one when he was a member for one album (1970). G C recomended the Spinners hire his cousin Phillipe. They did and he helped them achieve star status (with Bobby Smith).

Yes, Bobby sang lead on. "I'll Be Around, "Could it Be I'm falling in Love", and. "Mighty Love" with Phillipe, and a slew of others. I won't go into now, but often Bobby would start songs, and Phillipe would come in at a later point. On "Could it Be..." he ad libs on chorus. That's why they were called the "twin voices" because they sounded similar. You have to listen close to detect the difference. Phillipe had slightly more range and volume in the upper register, Bobby's style was more laid back. Bobby sings "Games People Play" and many 1960s cuts. I especially like "There's No One Like You" featuring all three lead singers, Henry Fambrough, and both twin voices switching off and overlapping on the bridge. Check it out! Ciao!

The Spinners spent nearly the entire 1960s as Motown’s “forgotten” group, never quite receiving the attention of the label’s other major acts, until Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Bobby Smith, Pervis Jackson and G.C. Cameron received a gift from their friend Stevie Wonder in the form of the song that became their breakout hit, 1970’s “It’s a Shame.” Ironically, by the time the song topped charts around the world, The Spinners’ contract with Motown was over, and their good friend, Aretha Franklin, helped them to land at the rising Atlantic music label.

What a class act. I grew up listening to their music and over the years I could hear their sound evolve and get better with each new release

+james geiger. How many of you are aware that G.C. Cameron is the soloist on "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye" from the movie "Cooley High"? Years before Boyz to Men covered it.
